Wasn't actually the people. It was the infrastructure and way of life.
I know it's a meme these days but I am from a country where every city is walkable.
Arriving in the USA I quickly realized that I wouldn't be walking anywhere. I was basically living in my rental truck.
But that was nothing compared to how I felt listening to my cousins talk about work/life culture, the lack of vacations, the fear of their insurance not covering medical stuff, how hard it was to be a parent (cost of giving birth, not getting any paid parental leave etc) and of course mother nature decided to give me a reality check as well.
Hurricane Irma hit while I was at my cousin in Florida..
We don't have anything like that here.
