China's soft power was stronger than Japan for thousands of years. Things are re-alligning. Even South Korea is mogging Japan in soft power now.
I’m torn between committing to Mandarin to be an early adopter for a country I don’t particularly find fun or interesting, or being a late adopter for Japanese as it gets poorer and less popular; which will make it less cringe.

Seems like your interest is entirely centered around public perception and an overton window. The thing I find detestable about weebs is that the media or culture they consume can be complete infantile garbage and they'll still try to act like they're on the cutting edge of culture. If it got less popular and the culture became nothing but a porn/prostitution mill (it already kind of is) it's still cringe even if no one likes it.

It’s not centered around the overton window, it’s just the part that’s relevant to this thread. My favorite Japanese media is all live action samurai movies. It’s more that Japanese interests me while Mandarin has more practical goals in mind.

You’re already too late for either one. The time to get in on it was years ago. Not now. If you want to be an early adopter, you’d be going for some global south unknown language

Japan, the economic powerhouse, trillions in foreign assets (the world’s top net creditor nation), has been generating wealth so easily, while suppressing inflation. Yet, such achievements are downplayed, because showing our success too much would invite envy and extra taxes.
So instead, everyone here just pretends to shrug, only focusing on negative numbers deliberately like "huge debt" and "shrinking population." It’s the national version of pretending "You’re broke while your bank account is fat." lol

It's not about numbers. India is no where near countries like South Korea or Taiwan, despite it's larger population/GDP. >>214633929
Yeah a brand new industry is smaller than a century old one. Come back in 30 years and compare profits/revenue

You better stop talking before leaking more idiocy out of your defective brains. It's just cringe to see a brown flag pretending to be smart.
Fads =/= cultural power necessarily. A better example would be gacha games. But that example also shows how poisonous Chinese capitalism is for others. Hell, even the Chinese recognize how harmful it is but can't do any meaningful action because of how much clout it gives them.
