I am a firm believer that the Hanfu is the worlds most beautiful national dress.

The mongols/manchus actually had cooler dresses, this faux-historic shit is beyond tacky compared to the real thing. It's like bathrobes with Etsy designs on them.

Not a fan of Tang personally and Song wasn't very organized. Most of what we know about Song is through third party/Buddhist sources.

I'm a firm believer that 'hanfu' isn't an ancient word but a recently developed larp by changs who are lying and abusing the larp to claim a history that doesn't exist.

Just be honest with your disdain for foreign cultures conquering China and influencing your history and culture including your clothes.

What does it mean hanfu doesn't exist? It's a collective term for ancient/medieval dresses. Like, are you saying people just walked around naked for millennia?

I don't think it's Chinese. I think it's Falun Gong mostly.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shen_Yun
>Shen Yun Performing Arts (Chinese: 神韻藝術團; lit. 'divine rhythm arts troupe') is a nonprofit performing arts and entertainment company based in the United States that produces performances of dance and symphonic music.[1][2] It is operated by the Falun Gong new religious movement[3] founded and led by Li Hongzhi.[4][5][6]
It's HQ'd in New York. China had the New Culture Movement in the 1910s, then they had the Great Leap Forward 50 years later. So there's like 2 layers of revisionism and Soviet progress to cut through, then out of nowhere in the 90s they take all of this investment money from Japan, World Bank, etc. and what do you know you get these CIA funded nationalist cults cropping up all over just like how they used to fund the Dalai Lama. Chinese never gave a shit about any of this for the entirety of the 20th century, and apparently Qing too since they denounced that as foreign.

This. But it's somewhere between an anime adaptation or historic fiction. They might as well portray it as Wuxia rather than historic, Hong Kong was way more honest.

Then there's a 1400 year gap and the guy skips to Qing? What? Doesn't even bring up Tang. I think this is more a book about fashion/culture rather than a serious history.

It's honestly the hair that makes it, not the dress. The dress is nice but the hair is so elaborate and pretty that it elevates the dress to another level by association.

"Hanfu" just means "chinese/han clothing" .
The pseudohistorical hanfu is fueled by TV shows with dubious historical research and actual college theatre kids and larpers getting state funding to astroturf a cultural revival.
It could be nice if the costumes themselves weren't slop.
It's like using Disney movies as your base for historical accuracy.
Anonymous France No.214717508 [Report] >>214718795 >>214720775
Lets be honest here :
Hanfu is nice enough but it would be improved considerably if the girls wearing them were barefoot and lifted the hem of their dresses when sitting down so as to reveal their feet.
We can debate historicity as much as we want but this would be an objective improvement.
