Kinda boring.
I'm only really interested in some of the more mysterious early Germanic Kings like Offa because they're so foreign to what we later know of as England.
After William, I don't really see much that is interesting beyond the times the English went to France or Germany to fuck around.

Yes. Why is the flag of the Lombard league so similar to Saint George's Cross?

It's the genoese flag. During a crusade the genoese ferried them to the holy land and the english king bought the flag for his own use

Which imo is very similar to how fast italian seamanship jus vaporized in less than a century. It takes generations to build a credible navy (not just the ships) and seamen but it can all be lost in 1-2 generations

>The association succeeded the Veronese League, established in 1164 by Verona, Padua, Vicenza, and the Republic of Venice
You sure? Seems to be Venetian in origin. They sponsored Welf, which later became Hanover, but the British only had Hanover monarchs by the late 17th century. It's just bizarre to me.

On the origins of the flag and its connection to the Genoese flag, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, said in a speech in Genoa in 1992:

The St. George's flag, a red cross on a white field, was adopted by England and the City of London in 1190 for their ships entering the Mediterranean to benefit from the protection of the Genoese fleet. The English Monarch paid an annual tribute to the Doge of Genoa for this privilege.[9]

I also read that both Britain and France originally had some Trojan origin story. The oldest printed text in early modern English was a history of Troy. Medieval France also thought they descended from the Trojans. In some more obscure comparative mythologies Saint George is sometimes seen as a Christian adaptation of Perseus. Does Italy have anything like that? When did Troy move from being considered historical to being mythological?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francus
>Francus or Francio is a mythological figure of French medieval historians which referred to a legendary eponymous king of the Franks, a descendant of the Trojans, founder of the Merovingian dynasty and forefather of Charlemagne.
Niet. I was talking about Francus. It's not accepted history anymore it's considered mythological now.

No shit it's a meme. Btw the Franks werent even a real people but a collection of peoples and not all of them were even germanics, they even had latins and gauls. So they spent a lot of time to create the image of a united people through myths and stories

France didn't truly centralize until Richelieu and it definitely wasn't under Trojan identity, the Gallicans washed that out just as the Church of England did. The only reason I mind it at all is because The Recuyell of the Historyes of Troye is the first ever book printed in English. Then Byzantine collapses and everyone starts trying to run their own church.

Why did they let him get away with all that shit?
How was he able to keep support despite acting like an absolute cunt all the time?
Was it just bribing people with the money he took from the churches?
