For me personally I stopped because all of the most religious people in my life/family are also the shittiest, cruelest, most narcissistic people.

so their whole model is made around you going often and feeling connected to them so you feel bad for them not being the biggest church in the city and you pay for their cross to be the biggest one and led or some shit and in exchange they do shows like exorcisms or pray for you to get a better job on past midnight tv
they use marketing techniques developed in the 20th century alongside good old fear in god to make people the perfect sheeple
it's quite tragic, people are not ready for that, as seen on tv commercials were a rarity here and other bullshit that wakes you up to marketing techniques also came directly by the hand of churches instead of trying to sell you a foldable toilet or something.

we went to church until I was about 8 and then my dad didn't want to go anymore except for Christmas Eve. I remember being jealous that some kids went to Sunday school while I didn't.

Nowadays right wingers try to convince people to get back to the roots, traditions, religion, implying it will help with a lot of problems, but as for me it just looks cringe, most modern people (I don't mean MENA retards by people of course) already surpassed that level when they could seriously take all that things. Spirituality became a strictly individual thing and those religious dogmatic frames often cause rejection, especially when you face some ideological hypocrisy in it. Modern people need some other types of ideas for consolidation, and basically they already have it - it's a well-being, but the problem that modern world wrongly focused on a market prosperity as an only thing that matters for nations well being and all other institutions are basically sacrificed for it's sake. So, in short, we need some moderate kind of national-socialism nowadays, not religion or other obsolete things no one takes seriously anymore.

People are allowed to openly think more critically than they used to in previous centuries. None of it disproves the existence of a god or gods, but it allows religious institutions to be closely observed and scrutinized. And it turns out they don't really hold up very well at that.
