They were all kind of hilarious in a fucked up way. Neumann was well known at the local police station for drunk driving and aggressively advocated for nuking the Soviet Union. In the reform age Jews were offered equal rights for the price of assimilation. There were conflicts between the religious Jews and the agnostic, liberal urban kind.
