Slovenia vs Croatia
Want to move somewhere warmer than Canada. Sick of it here for many reasons.
What are the pros and cons of Slovenia vs Croatia? Not looking for night life or tourism but comfy small villages, sea/lake/river fishing, hunting, local food, hiking in mountains / mountain biking etc.
If you had to live in one of these countries for the rest of your life which would you choose and why?
From what I can tell Slovenia has a higher standard of living, but Croatia has more natural beauty to explore and activities to enjoy (because of the size)
What are other pros and cons to these two countries?
Feel free to share some favourite villages and places to visit and explore
>work remote
>have eu passport through descent

Slovenia has a higher standard of civilization compared to Balkanoid Croatia. Croatians are more violent and vulgar and their governments are more despotic and backwards. Their language is also uglier. Also, Zagreb is more tolerable in winter than Ljubljana and has more western outlets, but in summer when it's 33 - 35°C in Ljubljana, it's closer to 40 in Zagreb, that is more or less two straight months of every years.

Croatia is more diverse in everything from nature to regions and people but some parts of the wilderness are difficult to explore and reach compared to Slovenia which is small, has a simple round shape and is fairly decentralized in a sense that even small towns and villages don't really feel remote and they feel more "tamed" in a sense.

I’m not too worried about the heat I’ve lived in the Bahamas for two months of summer multiple years of my life. Are Balkan people actually rude?

Do the smaller villages in mountain or wine regions of Croatia have decent infrastructure for things like overnight backpacking / hiking? Skiing? Even necessities?
Do you need to often travel to cities for things like doctors dentists and medicine or groceries if you live in small villages?
Also are there areas in Croatia where you can live close to the sea but also live in the mountains or is it quite a distance between the two?

Thanks for the bump.
The jeets black and Asians are part of the reason I want out, but Switzerland and Austrian alp towns are super expensive and Czechia / baltics / Poland don’t have the weather I’m looking for.
Don’t like France Italy Spain or Portugal and Montenegro/ Bulgaria have too low of a standard of living.
Croatia and Slovenia seem like the sweet spot of standard of living and climate

From what I’ve gathered from looking at real estate I can sell my place in Canada and move to 90% of the places I’ve seen so far in both Croatia and Slovenia mortgage free. Outside of some tourist hotspots and other places of course

Half of Slovenian population are Serbs and Bosniaks so it's likely that average person in your country is more balkanoid than here.

>Do the smaller villages in mountain or wine regions of Croatia have decent infrastructure for things like overnight backpacking / hiking?
Honestly I don't know how those things work abroad. Some places have hiking paths, some don't. There are a lot of tourists in Dalmatia that get lost in the mountains with no necessities and have to be rescued. Also I'm not sure how liberal our laws for camping are compared to US and Canada, like if you can just put up a tent anywhere outside of designated camping areas.
>Skiing
Skiing infrastructure exists on Medvednica above Zagreb and Platak above Rijeka although those peaks are quite low, snowy days are becoming increasingly rare and they're nothing compared to the alps.
>Do you need to often travel to cities for things like doctors dentists and medicine or groceries if you live in small villages?
Most villages are around a smaller town that acts as their municipal center which has some basic services like the ones you mentioned but for anything more serious you'll have to go to a big city.
>Also are there areas in Croatia where you can live close to the sea but also live in the mountains or is it quite a distance between the two?
Our entire coast is mountainous. I live in Rijeka and I need around 30 minutes with a car between Platak (hiking and skiing) and the beach, and that's with a slower road for most of the trip.
You can also live somewhere like Fužine and still be around 30-40 minutes from the sea because of the highway.

This country is the best place to live if you have an income of at least 2000€.
Most don't so that's why they complain.
Croatia is also has most fluen English speakers besides Scandinavia and Netherlands, but if you care about integrating fully (it's not that important because people will won't bother you if you're white) you'll have to learn basics of language.

slovenia is better, like this guy said, although there are caveats
croatia has a way better weather since slovenia is on a mountain
most of it is superficial, the biggest disadvantage is that croatia is full of bosnians who are third worlders
they both have roughly the same amount of nature and both have 0 activities and 0 night life
Anonymous Croatia No.215812280 [Report] >>215814434
>>215810718
just so you know slovenia is more tame and developed
something like half of croatia is wilderness de facto abandoned by the government which gave up trying to make it work so we are kinda just vibing with a huge chunk of our land being post apocalyptic ruins overgrown into a forest

Both seem to have pluses and minus’ the biggest minus of Slovenia seems to be lack of sand beaches and opportunities to have a boat to fish and explore the sea.
Whereas Croatia seems to have a less developed economy and things like healthcare and education, etc
Both seem to have beautiful nature and opportunities to hike/backpack, fly fish, mountain bike, etc
Maybe the best thing to do is airbnb in a few towns in both Croatia and Slovenia and just find the town and amenities I like best

>the biggest minus of Slovenia seems to be lack of sand beaches
there are VERY few sand beaches in croatia, mostly on the island of brač, croatia is 99%+ gravel beaches

Good to know, but it seems there are still a lot of decent sized beaches and much more waterfront properties or at least close to waterfront which allow owning a boat for fishing snorkeling etc. The coast of Slovenia just seems super small.
Anonymous Croatia No.215814929 [Report]
>>215814847
because it has a giant coastline lol
slovenia is a smaller country, but it's better maintained + you can always live in novo mesto and take a short drive to the sea whenever you like it
if you choose croatia go with istria, it's by far the best part of the country

Croatia is much more beautiful and it is really funny to see the Slovenes here describe Croats as barbarians while they are complete asocial degenerates, just like the Czechs, or like Berlin and Graz niggers. The femboy memes are somewhat true, but the women being wizard sleeve materialistic whores is a stereotype the world still has to learn.
You will be more accepted in Croatia, regardless of ethnicity (unless jeet, you aren't welcome anywhere, not sorry) and they are in general more friendly and social. If you want to go somewhere warm, id suggest the south, maybe Zadar, Sibenik or Split? If you want to go mountain climbing and wandering in the continental area, maybe some of the cities that border Hungary, they have nice nature.

Part of the allure of Slovenia is that the country is so small you can drive from the beach to the mountains in an hour or less and go from deep sea fishing / snorkelling to fly fishing and mountain biking in an hour or two, is this possible in Croatia?

Karlobag - Gospic road, look it up on google maps. It's 40 km and it has literally every climate except desert and tropical.
Karlobag is a small Mediterranean town situated directly under the Velebit mountain range with a beautiful view towards the island of Pag.

A 10 minute drive and you're in a comfortable 15 - 20c mountain climate with absolutely stunning vistas. Continue driving inland towards Gospic and you get a nice mild oceanic climate. It's absolutely beautiful during spring, summer and autumn. During autumn and winter you can go from a med climate to 3 feet of snow in 10 minutes.

Thank you anons I think I’ve come to the realization I should stay at least a month in both countries and determine which will work best for me, I appreciate the information it helps choose which towns to try out based on what I’m looking for.
Best case scenario is in the mountains but close to the sea or on the sea but close to the mountains, not touristy and has a small town or village vibe.
Want to enjoy all my hobbies from deep sea fishing and snorkeling/ diving to also mountain biking and fly fishing, camping and backpacking and it seems it’s all possible. Just need to narrow down the exact location that works best

Slovenia is a picturesque developed European country with all the things you'd associate with western Europe while also being slightly cheaper and slightly poorer.
Croatia is just an eastern European Balkan country that's not *as* bad as other Balkan countries but still a Balkan country nonetheless if you get what I mean. Croatia is very diverse so it's harder to speak about it as a single entity but it's also just kinda meh to live in if you're relying on the country itself at all to go about in life.
Croats are for the most part lame conservative Balkanoids but if you're lucky and an interesting person you're also likely to meet some of the best people you'll ever meet.
