Honestly this flag sucks and the country it is associated with sucks too. Why the hell would you put a Mexica symbol on your flag and then push Nahua culture into extinction and force everyone to speak Spanish (nahuatl language almost disappeared post-independence)
Furthermore, the symbolism is all fucked up, on the original Tenochtitlan glyph the eagle is not holding a snake it's holding the symbol for war. The snake is a symbol of wisdom, and the eagle is a patron animal of the god of war, so it means violence winning over wisdom. Which I guess makes sense since it's the most violent and corrupt country in the Americas. Green is also an ugly color for flags. Basically, fuck Mexico

The atl-tlachinolli was also depicted as a snake in mesoamerican codexes.

The symbol is an allegory to Quetzalcoatl not about war.

Quetzal = meaning something that flies
Coatl = something that crawls

Quetzalcoatl was an allegory for self improvement & milleu of societal order, which was very important in mesoamerican society

Its not killing it. The eagle is taken the snake to the skies with him. Its a parallelism concept representing the synchronization of the lowest & the highest. Quetzalcoatl was the title given to prophets in mesoamerica that managed to change the social order (akin to Jesus or Mohammad).

Thats why Cortes was called "Quetzalcoatl" not because he was a whitw bearded men, but because the nahua priest knew his presence was about to radically change society
