No. The Great Salt Lake is different than the Aral Sea. If the California Water Project / theft were to be stopped, the GSL's water level would not rise. This is because the water is salty and totally unusable for agriculture so it is not drained away as the Colorado River / Colorado's water is. This is 100% a climate change problem. The world is getting hotter and Utah's desert is getting slightly hotter every year. There is simply not enough rain to refill the lake and, as lake levels decrease, the salt concentration increases. It is the same process that killed all the fish in the dead sea.

Affecting this is another problem: The Great Salt Lake is very polluted from the nearby copper smelter. The heavy minerals sank to the bottom of the lake where they have mixed with the radioactive nuclear fallout from nearby nuclear bomb testing. Because of this the lake is more acidic than normal and slightly radioactive, and both rise as the water level decreases. Eventually, by 2030 enough of the lakebed will be exposed whereby the wind will kick up the fallout/heavy metal mix back up into the air in very nasty shredded metal radioactive dust storms. We have been warned about this for decades but half the state doesn't believe in ecology or geology or chemistry because god will provide. God will completely destroy the LDS's real estate business once this happens.

This doesn't concern the national government because if the lake goes away, only ranchers get fucked and not the copper smelter, railroad or supercomputer all of which will continue operating (mostly) normally.

Map. The 'causeway matters because it's the only way water levels in the lake can be meaningfully managed. Not that it matters since fish are basically dead on both sides, but it slowed the toxification of the water north of it so there are more birds there. Which is where all the legal hunting is, eventually all the flying rats will be shot and there won't be any ecology happening anymore.

Your map is wrong. This is the correct map of the San Joaquin Valley's pre-Water Project navigable inland waterways, which went south to Fresno at Lake Tulare. Areas north of Sacramento and south of Bakersfield are too high altitude for deep water channels. This is the best map I could find.

Giving California's liberals credit, they want this back and the current California state water plan will gradually destroy the 20th century CWP dam network that created this. This will also destroy all the ranchers and cause beef prices to quintuple, destroying McDonalds. As far as Democrats are concerned this will kill two birds with one stone, restoring natural waterways while also ending childhood obesity. /pol/ is extremely upset at this because it's a big government socialism or algo and Trump Freed The Water earlier this year when he ordered the Reservoirs drained. This is also why the reservoirs didn't have any water over the summer, destroying the ranchers and is why beef prices are at a historical high.

I could go on but this is basically ranchers vs everyone else and the ranchers, finally, are losing.
