okay I have to ask again because my post always seems to be ignored.
If Qataris were muslims and knew the whole Quran by heart and lived the lifestyle, why the FUCK did they destroy Mecca in 930?
The stone in OP was even shattered and they took pages of the quran and smeared the rock with excrement so the pages would stick to it, then launched it into the city as a mockery.
Then they declared their right to enter the city gates because they were muslims, then slaughtered the inhabitants while mockingly quoting Mohammed.
But when it was all finished, they still went back home to being muslims, which is the confusing part

It was a super weird moment where they basically ran through a giant country sized doomsday cult cycle, with a chosen prophet and everything, but the real binding force was the tribal chief's force of personality. He was the biggest supporter of his own nation's doomsday prophet and the biggest thing keeping all the tribes together.
But then the prophet got revealed to be a charlatan and the chief himself killed them. So after that point what were they to do but go back to how it was before?
Nothing materially was lost in that, and the chief wasn't humiliated by it because he regained his honor by killing his own false prophet. So he wasn't kicked out of power.

The other part was that they were too strong for others to invade in return and destroy after sacking Mecca.
So once their cycle with the doomsday prophet ended, they slowly came out of it on their own, and what could others do but just accept it?
It'd take another generation for their nation to be beaten in a war and finally lose strength.
