Modern swedish is a low german creole language. Our grammar is low german, 70 % of our vocab is low german. And the rest is just a mix of english and arabic. Possibly with 1 % actual norse award.

>70 % of our vocab is low german
how does this even happen
germanic languages split first century before christ, how can the low german vocabulary be noticeably foreign at the time of the hanse
Anonymous Sweden No.216188618 [Report]
Sounds like a Zoomer edge take. I have no idea about Low German grammar, but it'd have to be pretty different from German to be similar to Swedish.

The cuckening began with the hanse, swedish before 1400 is unintelligeble to modern speakers, hanse influence killed the case system, feminine and maculine gender and imported so many loan words that they now outnumber the naitive ones.

More obscure words in particular are probably more likely to be loans

Actually no, most common words are of low german origin. For example the words for river and mountain, "flod and berg" are entirely low german "älv and fjäll" are the naitive ones. I chose this particular example because it both are used today, but low german loan words are everywhere and they find you and possibly kill you, you have been warned.

Wtf no it’s not. Your language is 0 German, just look at the way you pronounce words. Also you only have two genders etc, you’re easier. My Italian friend learned Swedish, your language has difficulty sounds

People were always aware of the relationship between Germanic languages. English was often termed 'Teutonic' in Latinate texts, especially those of Francophone England, France, Flanders, etc.

Berg is not a loan from Low German. You're just making shit up now

the first mention of the word deutsch is from england (in its medieval form, that is)
its just the germanic determiner for "of the people", so it makes sense

And I just checked "flod". That's also not a loan from Low German

On the topic, did you know that there are Latin loans in Swedish where English still has original Germanic words.
Arrow, window, read and write are all Germanic words, but in Swedish, these are all Latin loans

Latin words you borrowed through Low German btw.

But the case system disappeared long after the Hansa period, and we still have grammantical genders today, although feminine and masculine are merged. But we still separate them from neuter gender

Not sure what your point is. The period where the loan words started coming in is the high middle age.

Yes you figured out that Stockholm killed the swedish language.
Älvdalska is an example of what real swedish would look like if the gays in Stockholm didnt sissify it with german words.

Problem with Zoomer edge is that there's often a grain of truth that they picked up somewhere, but you gotta be le outrageous because your brain's been fried from growing up on spastic YouTube, and then you get all the low-level facts wrong. The truth is usually more boring and complicated.

Biægh is the original cognate but do you think its a coincidence we spell it berg, do you also think its a coincidence we use it more than fjäll.
I honestly hadn't checked the wikitionary and just assumed since they are so obviously close to german, however dispite what the wikitionary says im still convinced they are secretly german pretending to be naitive.

Fjäll isn't anymore "native" than berg, then. Fjäll also exists in other Germanic language, like English. It's not a unique Scandinavian word
