As an amateur gamedev I can tell you game engines nowadays are literally worse, less efficient and less optimised to work in than at any point in the mid 2000s to mid 2010s. I was also never involved in any studio but I can tell you AAA gamedev is reviled among code monkeys, it's a low paid, 70+ hr/week (during crunch time) job with zero vertical mobility prospects.

Does it ever occur to you that they brought the woke stacies to work there because they can pay them literally less than minimum wage (overtime is unpaid) and they'll still keep toiling all day happily to spread their left wing RELIGION? Bethesda was never good, even fucking Arena already suffered from the same issues that all their games have (wide as an ocean deep as a puddle game design with "go to A and retrieve B" tier quests). Morrowind was the middest of mid watered down CRPG slop and people try to convince themself that it was some masterpiece because they hate Oblivion and Skyrim that much but at least the latter two didn't even pretend to be RPGs.
