Whats a good anki template for memorizing such grammar point in different phrases, or alternatively a good deck with plenty of them already?

There was https://dojgdeck.neocities.org/ but the link is broken now.
I never used any grammar deck but I'm learning just fine, just immerse a lot (゚∀゚)
You can check anything in https://dojglite.github.io/main/ but I greatly recommend to just search any expression you don't understand in the「○○とは」format and read about them in the first results you get, if you can read the explanations (usually they're aimed towards foreigners so they're not very hard)

Trust me anon, you'll only really be able to use it when you acquire it, not when you memorize it. Misusing anki and thinking that using it would be better than just actually trying hard and reading/watching/listening has wasted many hours of my time, and I wish someone had warned me about that before.
Don't know if you're a beginner or how you're learning Japanese, but I'll tell you it's very painful at first, I know, but it's the only way.

I'm aware anon, but you must understand, some grammar points are used as frequently in all types of media, some aren't used that much in conversations (specially when they talking to foreigners they tend to keep it simple).
That's exactly why I want something I can cram in as much different phrases for same usage, to get used to the different usages.
I can't tell you how much I got lost in conversation just because they used a grammar point in a slightly different way, it may sound stupid just having to stop and thinking about it is already a hiccup.
And believe me, I'm living in Japan brother, luckily been having lots of opportunities to talk nihonjins, and I've improved dramatically over the past months.

In my experience, I only started to fix that when I began reading more. When I started to read a bunch, then "rare" grammar points and vocab aren't going to be as rare, and if they still are rare, then they're probably not important anyway. Plus my listening skills got better too for some reason.
>That's exactly why I want something I can cram in as much different phrases for same usage, to get used to the different usages.
You could do this by simply mining sentence cards (I used the card creation guide on learnjapanese.moe), no need to make pre-made decks IMO. I was really into sentence cards a while back, but nowadays I'm gravitating towards making vocab cards only.
I never went to Japan myself and I don't know what level you are exactly nor when you'll be leaving, but I can assure you it would be best if you made friends with someone that is willing to talk to you all the time and correct you (I'm assuming most Japanese people IRL act exactly like they are in VRChat, usually pretending that your grammar and wording are correct and that they're understanding everything you're saying). If you're on limited time then I guess much less reading and more social interactions. Unless you're outside all the time and are a huge 陽キャ, consider joining VRChat when you aren't already chatting with someone, plus it's easier to make friends there, I'd say. You could even do オフ会 with people you meet there.
Anyways, that Anki deck I showed you was probably what you were looking for, but I don't have a clue how to find it after the site went down (;´д`)トホホ

> Misusing anki and thinking that using it would be better than just actually trying hard and reading/watching/listening has wasted many hours of my time
What exactly do you mean?
Right now in my journey, I learned Hiragana/Katakana, and know about 40 vocabulary. What do I do next?
I tried listening Japanese streams and a few episodes of anime, but it feels pointless because 99% of it I dont get. Its super rare I catch a word I know, and I dont know whats being talked about at all.

People say to grind out Anki, but like you said, the raw memorizing with no emotional connection or practical use is absolutely dreadful for me. The Kaishi 1.5K deck was trying to teach me “This”, “That” “Over there” “this one” “That one”.
It was so incredibly boring and confusing trying to learn all these similar terms. I did end up learning a few, but its only because I had to use those same words in Duolingo (I know I know, I just use it on the side)

Anki is only effective on me when I grind out Anki and then also happen to need to use said words somewhere else. But Anki alone, seems to not be working for me.

Same with the Japanese months. I was trying to learn the months in Japanese on Anki, didnt learn anything. And then it just so happens, my Japanese tutor teaches me the months. She first teaches me 1-10, and which are the building blocks for learning the months since its just number+month. Learning it this way made it actually stick. I dont think Anki helped at all.

Anyway, point is, you say you can only use Anki as a supplement. And I should be reading/playing/watching Japanese media in Japanese. But how do I do that if I don’t know anything? I was told to do Anki first and then immerse. I don’t know if the solution is I need to go into the Anki trenches hardcore first before I can immerse. I can really only handle ~30 min of Anki a day, its so incredibly boring. But if I have to increase that and just suck it up to progress, I will.

My suggestion is listen to some easier stuff for learners, and listen more than once (I used nihongo con teppei essential and beginners for this)
Also read really basic stuff, with dictionary lookups at the end, for this I used the tadoku free books

How exactly do you guys "study"?
I went through most of my school years never really developing any kind of study habits and just kinda coasted on last-minute cramming.

I'm trying to do a bit of Bunpro and Wanikani every day, but I feel like that's definitely not "enough" if I wanna get anywhere anytime soon and start communicating with the japanese on twitter or in vrchat.
That said, Bunpro and Wanikani definitely feel better than Duolingo. But I can't shake the feeling that they're still gamified apps and not a "real" learning tool, if that makes sense.

Get through the N5 grammar asap and start immersing with low comprenhension to at least practice what little you kinda know on the regular. Then just keep studying grammar and vocab and reading/watching for a few thousand hours. Throw in some output practice eventually, but you don't have to force yourself in the beginning.
Easier said than done, but it's (useful) hours spent not days passed.

> I was told to do Anki first and then immerse.
I'm strongly against this idea. When I started, I used to be "scared" to immerse because I wouldn't be able to understand it, so I kept doing anki without any purpose, thinking that eventually I would be able to understand Japanese better.
I stand with what learnjapanese.moe has to say about this. You have to come up to terms with sucking, plus you have to watch something that is fun to you. You can either check jpdb.io for the difficulty lists or rewatch an anime you like that isn't so difficult, that is, at most 30~40 difficulty rating on jpdb. Of course, you can read VNs (please use Textractor, agent or LunaTranslator without the translations so you can look up words faster), or manga (use mokuro for the same reason as before).
Do this as you are learning grammar with Cure Dolly or Tae Kim. Also, be confident in your brain, according to Stephen Krashen's input hypothesis, we do still learn languages exactly like we learned as kids.
In short, believe in the process and do your best. In that guide I mentioned, it's saying that you need to watch anime raw, but I think it's fine to watch with Japanese subs you get from jimaku.cc.
Also please quit Duolingo (; ・`д・´)

I've managed to memorize everything without needing to write (actually I did write the kanas once).
But pro advice, if you intend to go do japan or use nihongo for anything more than just weebshit. You should definitely practice some writing, and not to mention getting used to the details make it a heck lot easier to distinguish between similar kanji with a few different radicals.

I know that feeling, my journey was similarly painful. I've restarted my anki at least three times, before I realized Anki is just a memorization tool and not a learning one.
Though I will say that all that grind and acquiring vocabulary helped me out a lot in the long run.

My advice would be (and to myself if I had to do it again). Don't do the pre-built decks unless its really something you really need. go for mined words/sentences, study each sentence independently and the put on a deck where revise it on occasion.
Like you teacher did, add all the months, days, day of the weeks, different numbers and different ways to spell it.
Don't really bother with Kanji at first and ease into it, going hard on into kanji like the traditional decks do it is just like placing a huge bolder right at the beginning of your track, that you will have to get down later anyway.
For vocab one thing that worked way much better for me was a flashcard with multiple choices, called Kakugo, kinda similar but you see the difference in approach to Anki.

And as the britbro mentioned, Nihongo con Teppei is great, but that is mostly for acquiring listening skill, and even then you will need some basic vocab to follow up. But its a good example of trying to follow up, the look up a word you don't know, and add it to your deck gradually.

Everything... (´・ω:;.:…
There's countless hilarious examples on r/learnjapanese of people saying how they have such massive streaks or whatever the fuck but still struggle with the very basics, or some dude trying N3 after 10 years studying Japanese.
I still to this day haven't met a single person that actually became proficient (like C1 or C2) with any language at all using Duolingo.

>N3
NTA but I passed N3 way back in 2021 and I have to say it's easy enough, no need to get nervous about it. If you are already on the level of watching SoL high school anime with JP subs without having to look up grammar a billion of times, and you can read NHK Easy without much trouble, you'll pass with flying marks. N1 is the shit though, tried it in 2023 and failed miserably, that's how I noticed that being stuck with anime, some manga and easy VNs wouldn't cut it, and I started trying harder with hard VN and reading actual NHK. Haven't tried N1 again but maybe will do so next year in July.
