France is still called Gaul in modern Greek Gallia that's its authentic name in my opinion because French culture is mostly Gallo-romantic.
Modern Germany used to be called East Francia, France is just West Francia, the name just stuck after the empire broke up.

The French aren't and never were Germanic unless they are from Normandy, the far north or far east only the elite were Germanic. Most "franks" were speaking Latin under Frankish rule.
Modern French people mostly descend from two groups the original inhabitants(Gauls) and the Romans(Italians).

Belgian. >gave origin to France
Depends on how you define it. Can even stretch it back all the way to Gauls. >are germanic
Not at all. France, as we know, it can be traced back to King Philippe II who stopped referring to himself as King of the Franks and formalized the title of Kingdom of France for his territories.

Wrong
The average Frenchman is genetically closer to a southern German than to an Italian, the Alp is a genetic barrier

Yeah I think you're right. They still mostly descend from the original indigenous population(Gauls) although southern frogs probably do have a bit of greek/Italian blood.
