I spent a year in SE Asia with my gf, it was the best time of our life. We crossed the border to see the big tourist sites, every city smells like a mixture between a fermented dumpster and the worst public toilet. Every single indian was looking to scam/steal/cheat us. We got sicker than we have ever been in our lives 6 hours after crossing the border and had to live off cans of coke and western candy for a week to avoid food poisoning. It's impossible to enjoy the beautiful countryside, since mobs of Indians will follow foreigners, trying to sell them stuff or rent their motor bikes, police will pull you over handing you fines for dropping cigarette butts when you inform them you don't smoke and want to speak to their supervisor, he will arrive and now you have to pay the original bribe plus a double bribe for the Police Captain.

I am very much a happy hoppy love the world person, but not India. Never India. India is worse than Nigeria, worse than outer Mongolia, worse than Chinese Slums. Visiting India will make you hate the world.

For the nature you can visit northern-pakistan for the striking landscapes of gilgit baltistan, khyber pakhtunkhwa and azad kashmir/pok.

ladakh is also nice; an arid desert, but the quiet remoteness of it is enjoyable, turquoise lakes and dry snowy mountains. Kerala is green and naturally beautiful too. Go to the north east too, meghalyia is nice for one.

As a foreign tourist, you have the unique privilege of traveling to both places which people in India and Pakistan don't. Yet you sit on your ass instead of backpacking.
