A bunch of people at my office, mostly the boomers and Gen X who make up the higher management positions, think ChatGPT and other LLMs are sentient super intelligences capable of answering any question with 100% accuracy. One of my managers will literally stop meetings to say “hang on, let me run that by ChatGPT” when practically anyone else in the room would be capable of giving a much more reliable answer to whatever question he’s asking it.
I’m genuinely worried the higher ups are going to start making large scale business decisions based on what ChatGPT tells them to do. They simply don’t understand that it doesn’t actually know anything and is merely giving them an answer based on publically available data and stats that have virtually nothing to do with our company.

I used to be a big simp for the tech industry in the 2010s. Now I think all of silicon valley should be glassed.

I'm an AI luddite. I'm a technophile but I think AI has basically been pulling resources and attention away from real technological improvement for 5 years and diverting it to a novelty.

China is going to "win the AI race" because they are focused on using AI to assist existing industry while the whole western world is fixated on either generating slop or using AI to eliminate highly compensated labor (which are also valuable consumers). I think that this bubble might really be the end of the American tech industry as a dominant force in the world.

I already saw my family reposting aislop videos and I had to explain to my dad that one of them wasn't real and that it literally had a huge SORA sign all over (he had no clue about any of that)
It's hard to describe how hard public discourse will be holocausted by AI. Funny how dead internet theory went from a fun fringe meme to becoming reality in just a few years
