Concerning the Global 3 template Archived
We've been seeing a lot of inappropriate use of the Global 3 - Garbage outside of /b/ template, and it's not hard to see why. The rule is a giant paragraph with all sorts of little clauses and a lot of subjectivity. So this thread should give you a better idea of the sorts of situations in which you'd use this template, and in what situations you shouldn't use it.

You should use Global 3 for:

1. Furry, guro, loli, and shota content on NWS boards, other than /b/. This content is allowed NOWHERE except for /b/. However, when this sort of porn being posted on work-safe boards, then it is more instructive to the user if you just use Global 5; porn is porn after all. That way they can be sure they are getting banned for the image they posted, and not some other reason.

2. Troll posts and trolling. This is where the majority of the misuse of this template comes in. Just because a post in a heated discussion gets reported, it doesn't necessarily mean that the user is trolling, or that you have to do anything at all. Remember: people are allowed to argue, people are allowed to disagree, and people are allowed to have contentious opinions. Be lenient and give people the benefit of the doubt. People come to 4chan because they want to post in a relaxed and permissive environment and because of this it's natural for people to be a little abrasive and in-your-face here. This is the internet hate machine we're talking about after all; people are probably going to be jerks to one another from time to time. But if we banned everyone who was being a bit of a jerk, there'd be no one left.

So try to reserve ban requests for trolling for the very worst examples of trolling, like when someone starts a new thread to insult all of the posters on the board, or to post some horribly obvious bait in a really inflamatory way, such that the board's posters can't resist replying to it. For replies to an otherwise OK thread, be very hesitant to ban request for trolling. Often when someone is losing an argument, or their butt gets a little hurt, they'll report the other person out of spite. We don't want to accidentally reward this behaviour. However, if it's clear that the only goal of the person is to derail and destroy a thread by posting a bunch of insulting and inflammatory garbage, and not to actually present their real thoughts on the topic, then you can consider ban requesting them for global 3.

3. Gore or shock images/gifs. Sometimes people will post this sort of crap in threads they don't like just to ruin them for everyone else. If it's clear that the poster's goal is simply to ruin the thread, this counts as a form of trolling. An example might be someone posting a torture gif in a fetish thread on /soc/, along with comments insulting people who are posting in the thread, or perhaps posting images of dead cats in a cat thread on /an/. Of course, most gore and shock images/gifs count as NWS, so it goes without saying they should be removed from work-safe boards.

4. Indecipherable text. This DOES NOT deserve a ban, merely deletion. If someone is posting with extreme overuse of texting shortcuts, abbreviations, etc, to the point of it being completely indecipherable to the average person, then all you need to do is to delete the post. The person can try again in English. I want to make it clear that we don't expect perfect Oxford English or anything of the sort; using abbreviations and common internet shortcuts is fine (mfw, tfw, lol, kek, etc), and we don't expect people to use proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc, at all times. All we ask is that their posts be legible to the average person, so that's a pretty low bar. If you can understand what they're saying, leave it alone.

5. Racism & /pol/ outside of /pol/. When targeting racism, you need to target the intent of the poster, and not merely the words that are being used. For instance, someone saying "aww yeah my nigger" or "fuck you nigger. asuka a shit." is not being racist, whereas someone saying "niggers are inferior and need to be exterminated" is being racist. They're both using the same word, but with very different meanings. If we wanted to target words, we'd just use a filter. We need you to use your judgement as to whether it is the poster's intent to insult, denegrate, or incite hatred or violence against a group of people. If it isn't, then leave it alone.

There are also some common misuses of this template:

1. Ironic shitposting. For example:

A LE EPIC LE FACES OF LE REACTING
LE xDDDDDDDDDDDDD
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
SOMPLY EEEEBBINNNNNNNNNNNNNN
FUGGGGGGGINNNNGGGG XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
SSSSSSSOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEEPPPPPPPIIIBBBBBBBBBBB
AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMFG
OMGOGMOFMOGMOFMGOMFGGGGGGG XDDDDDDDDDDD
xddddd
XDD
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

This should be ban requested for Global 6 - Quality of Posts, not Global 3. It's a less severe ban (one day local instead of three days global), and the person can understand exactly why they were banned more easily.

2. Discussions with possible socio-political nature. The phrase '/pol/ outside of /pol/' doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to discuss on-topic things that happen to have some sort of sociopolitical aspect. For instance, this rule doesn't mean people can't discuss the controversy surrounding the Sorceress in Dragon's Crown, or visible minorities in comics, or most recently Nintendo's Tomadachi Life patch and the fallout. People are going to want to discuss these things not because they are trolling, but because they are interesting current events that effect their hobbies and interests. We do not want to prevent people from having legitimate on-topic discussion just because the topics are controversial. That's censorship, and the userbase will react to any perceived censorship with extreme hostility.

Please use this thread to ask any questions/post relevant discussion.

Generals on /vr/ Archived
Since there appears to be some confusion amongst the posters regarding the official policy of generals on /vr/, could a modpost stating that official policy be made?

From what I understand the official policy is that they're allowed, since the general rules only apply to /v/ and none of the /vr/ generals would have any shot at surviving in /vg/. I didn't pastebin a post like I did for the /diy/ sticky since I didn't feel qualified to write out the official policy.

To give an idea for those unfamiliar with /vr/, there are a number of retro generals on /vr/, including the Doom general (the most active of the bunch, each thread lasts 1-3 days usually, they wait until the thread is on page 8 before creating a new one), the Quake general, the Rollercoaster Tycoon general, the HOMM general, the Repair/Mod general, the /vr/ Gauntlet general, the Shmup general, the Final Fantasy Remnants general, the UFO Defense general, the City Building general, the Tibia general, the Game Center CX general, the CRT general, the Buy/Sell/Trade general and the Recent Finds general.

The generals last from the fastest of about 1-3 days (the Doom generals) to well over a month (the HOMM generals, UFO Defense generals) before reaching bump limit.

"LET MY DOUBLES GO" Spam on /tv/ Archived
We are currently encountering a particularly pervasive problem on /tv/.

Someone is spamming the board with the same images and the same text over and over again for hours on end with above average dedication.
For those that haven't seen it, it's a repeatedly Photoshopped picture of Christian Bale with the text being "LET MY DOUBLES GO". It's basically more constant doubles spamming.

The Janitors on /tv/ are currently unable to keep it under control via regular deletion when it crops it.
It may also be likely he is using a bot program.

I'm asking if something can be done about this, such as temporary filtering of his typical chosen text, or any other suggestions /j/ can provide on getting this problem under control. Because as it stands just regular deletion and ban-requests are not working.

"Realistic mil-sim games" on /k/ Archived
The ban reason for /k/'s off topic BR is "Off-topic; all images and discussion should pertain to firearms, military vehicles, knives, realistic mil-sim games, and other weapons."

What falls under mil-sim games? Airsoft? Paintball? Simulation videogames?

/k/ gets several threads a day about these topics. Usually the response for airsoft and paintball is uniformly "Take it to /asp/" The response for simulator videogames is different, some want the discussion to stay in /k/ and some want it in /v/, usually depending on the game.

Should I just go with the flow and exile airsoft/paintball to /asp/ like it's always been or should I start letting this kinda thing fly? Are some game allowed in /k/ or should I crack down and throw them all into /v/?

I guess I'm just looking for a bit of insight. I've been going with majority rules with making calls on these things up until now, but I can see how someone would be frustrated for getting a thread deleted or a ban for being technically "on topic" in their mind.

/tg/ stuff Archived
Dear anyone who pops into /tg/ from time to time to clean the queue,

Until moot or a moderator makes a public announcement regarding ERP threads, do not delete them unless there are more than one. By long-standing 4chan tradition, text is never considered NWS. A small but vocal group really does not like them and attempts to backseat moderate them by spamming the threads. Please do not enable these individuals. I don't personally think ERP threads should be on /tg/ (they fit better on /soc/), but I really do not like backseat janitoring.

Viral is a valued contributor to /tg/. Please do not delete his kickstarter threads or ban him, as he's definitely in the top 1% for contributing OC to /tg/ (http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Category:Viral_Games).

As another note, kickstarter threads have been allowed by dint of /tg/ being focused on a niche hobby. Unlike video games or anime, it's impossible to play /tg/ stuff without monetary investment. Magic and Warhammer are notoriously expensive, board games cost money, and print books are always preferable to PDFs. The community in general likes seeing new releases. Unless a moderator notices that the thread is being samefagged, it's usually best to leave kickstarter threads be.

The official stance on that is a bit unclear, probably owing to it never being enforced. I can start purging the threads, but an announcement should be made by a staff member either in the current /q/ thread (https://boards.4chan.org/q/res/545290) or on /tg/ itself.

State of /co/. Archived
/co/ is currently facing a multitude of problems which need to be dealt with immediately.
These issues include the constant stream of sexualized characters/porn of those characters and the topic of feminism being as troll-bait and to derail threads.

/co/ is hit with thinly veiled waifu threads almost constantly. These threads almost always lead porn of that character being dumped and the threads really don't serve any purpose other than creating a place for people to dump their images and talk about how much they'd like to fuck waifu x. Although moderators have commented on these threads not being allowed on /co/, users continue creating and posting in these threads as if they truly believe they are, but who can really blame them?
4chan has a constant stream of users both new and old flooding in and out, and without stating certain board rules which aren't specifically stated under the website rules page, how are users supposed to know what is acceptable on a board and what is not?

There is also no current rule against troll-bait topics like feminism besides the obvious rule against off-topic subject matter, but with web-comics specifically about these troll-bait topics, some users post under the guise that the subject matter is infact comics.

Just as MLP was once used to troll /co/, feminism is the new hot-topic and needs to be dealt with.

I would like to request a few new rules be added to the /co/ section of 4chan.org/rules.

3. All feminist/gender related content (including web comics, series, and cartoons) are not to be posted on /co/. This content belongs on /lgbt/. (or /pol/?)

4. Waifu/husbando threads/image dumps are not to be posted on /co/. This includes but is not limited to Caturday/muttday/"would you?"/"I want to fuck x" threads.

5. Fetish threads are not to be posted on /co/. These include but are not limited to: Lesbian/gay/chubby/anthropomorphic/inflation/feet threads.

KPOP Archived
I janitor /mu/, and I'd like to talk about KPOP threads. Their location on my board makes sense--certainly moreso than /vg/--they aren't strictly breaking any rules, and they've been pretty good about keeping it to one thread at a time with little spillover into the rest of the board. I understand all of this, and so I haven't taken issue with them at all until recently.

I think they're beginning to bring down the standards of the board. More and more people are making excuses for their own shitty posting (e.g., chart circlejerk threads) by saying that if KPOP generals that never ever mention the music are allowed, then their own non-music threads should be too. While their arguments are flawed, it's easy to see where these people are coming from.

I'd like to propose again--as has been done before--that KPOP threads be moved again, to /s/. The users who participate in the threads seem to mostly be migrants from /vg/ (right? I don't know much about /vg/, I just know that these threads started showing up on /mu/ suddenly one day), so they're not invested in /mu/'s culture at all. Moreover, the subject matter is just a good fit for /s/.

Thoughts?

Global Rule 16 - Requesting outside of /r/ Archived
So the text of this rule currently says: "All requests belong on /r/ unless otherwise noted."

That's pretty broad. This has led to some pretty divergent interpretations on the team. These differing interpretations have led to inconsistent enforcement between boards, which is apparently quite confusing some users.

For clarity, what we're trying to target with this rule is users creating new threads in which they ask for the name of a particular model or character, ask for the source of a particular image, or ask for more images of the same theme (without first providing several images of their own to get the thread started). Left alone these threads would greatly increase overall thread turnover and push most of the actual content off the board. Obviously this mostly applies to the porn boards, but it can occasionally apply to boards like /a/ and /co/ if people are asking for links to particular episodes or issues, or particular fan art images, etc.

Replies to otherwise rule-abiding threads asking for sources/names are not what we are trying to get rid of here; these are essentially harmless. The threads on these boards have a much higher reply limit than image limit, so there's no way that these sauce replies are preventing anyone from posting more content. So on one of the porn boards, within an otherwise perfectly fine thread, if someone asks for the source of one of the images within the thread then that is not something that should be deleted or ban requested; it's essentially harmless and it's a waste of everyone's time to try to police that sort of stuff. Moreover, while it might be annoying to some, it's certainly not something that we should ban someone from the entire site for 24 hours over.

tl;dr - delete or BR request threads, ignore and clear reports for request replies

Endless genwars are plaguing /vp/ Archived
Every single day there are around 3 people simultaneously derailing threads with genwar bullshit. They spam terms like ''genwunner'', ''hoennbabby'', ''sinnohfetus'', ''unovasperm'', etc. and without fail they succeed in baiting morons to respond. Everyone on /vp/ is tired of this shit. I've been trying to curb it, but it's incredibly hard due to the fact that no one ever reports it, and when they finally fucking do, the thread is already shitposted to bump limit and the bastards responsible for it long ago moved on to destroy another thread.

I'm begging for a variant of /v/'s rule #2 (Flaming/flagrant "fanboyism"/etc. will not be tolerated.) to be created for /vp/. This would make life easier for everyone on /vp/, since now people would actually realize that genwar shitposting should always be reported and janitors would have a ban template for this shit.

Stream Threads Archived
>Advertising (all forms) is also not welcome—this includes any type of referral linking, "offers", soliciting, begging, stream threads, etc.

There's some confusion regarding stream thread. For the longest time I believed that there was a blanket ban on them because, to quote one mod: "4chan is not for watching others play or draw things on streams."

Then the 4chan cup happened and after some minor drama and spam they were allowed on /vg/ and /sp/ while banned everywhere else. And now, months later, it seems there are even more exceptions to the rule and it's becoming really hard to remain consistent and not look like a hypocrite in deleting one stream thread while leaving another one up, what with conflicting orders from different mods.

So the question I have is: What am I supposed to look for when deciding whether a certain stream thread should be deleted or kept? When does it break the rules?

When is this going to end? It's annoying that there is almost always going to be an "underage disney girl" thread on the frontpage of /tv/. Bellatap has been banned countless times at this point, threads deleted thousands of times at least. It's clear 99% of the users do not want bellatap on /tv/ and just have to grit and bear it because we(the janitors) can't stop him. Help? Pic very related

2013 Fall-Winter /v/ metathread Archived
As we move into Fall I think we should have a thread about /v/ to discuss current events and future items to look for or be aware about. I got some topics ready to go but if you got anything to add please do so!

Anyways, current events I think that should be addressed, if you got input then give it!:

1. GTA Threads. They’re huge and ubiquitous, and the whole thing has been pretty crazy from the island info leaks to the actual game leak to the actual release. Long story is, there’s a lot of ‘em, and there has been a lot of ‘em, the main issue being that there’s like 6 on the board at any time.
I think that no later than after this next weekend we should really work on containing them. Not “banishing them to /vg/” but we should ensure at least related GTA topics stay in one thread, that’s a service we owe /v/.

2. Low quality posts, I think that ultimately they’re being diminished but they also seem to be homogenizing. I’m seeing less “xxdddDDDxxd” sort of stuff and more “*tip fedora*” or some other kind of action GAIA bullshit. Luckily, the users are pretty good at reporting this so I’m happy about that. Are other janitors noticing something similar?

3. Ban Evaders. Seems like I see less and less or Kronie on /v/ and a lot more on /vg/. The only notable guy I can name off the top of my head atm that I’ve seen repeatedly recently is that thundersword guy. Am I missing people or are you guys noticing the same thing?

4. Flamewards, fanboyism, trolling, etc. General consolewar stuff seems down but that’s probably just a calm before the storm (more on that later), the biggest areas seem to be LoL vs. DotA2 stuff and a slow but steady resurgence in WRPG vs. JRPG stuff. Has anyone noticed any other areas to pay attention to?

Salutations all!
As this is our board I feel it necessary for us all to help one another with problems or issues that we have.
One such issue is..well..LIFE!
I say that in the sense that we all most likely(hopefully) have other things to do outside of 4chan and although we do we still find time to go on our respective boards and do a bit of moderation, however when we need to get in touch with others the IRC is one of the best methods, now my question I pose to you all is that I for one am always out of my home realm most of the time but I own a tablet(Android) where I do most of my moderation, I cannot however seem to access the IRC through it and was wondering if anyone could by chance help me with an app or method of doing so!
Thanks in advance everyone!

Thread 3214 Archived
This thread is about /tv/ and some of the various issues it has, old and new. One relatively new issue that's been bothering me a bit is a recent increase in "jews!"/stormfront bait threads. I guess they're not far from the type of posts you'd find on /b/ or /pol/ (or maybe /q/ haha). Threads like this,

http://archive.foolz.us/tv/thread/36954172/
http://archive.foolz.us/tv/thread/36946295/
http://archive.foolz.us/tv/thread/36955118/

Now you cant really escape from big issues like race on /tv/, whether its a major theme of a particular film i.e. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2024544/ (you should go watch that btw) or some industry related thing like a Mel Gibson meltdown, its a fairly inclusive place. But the sort of threads I linked are, in my opinion, getting pushed and just made to stir up trouble.

I mean this thread http://archive.foolz.us/tv/thread/36946295/ has fostered some ontopic disussion that isnt all terrible, but most of it is pretty racist and bad. Iirc Ive seen this thread with that image reposted a dozen or so times over the past 6 months or so, maybe more.

It would be nice I hope if the /tv/ janitors (I think there are about 4 including me) and the mods who frequent /tv/ could share their opinions on threads like the ones above. Like what sort of approach they take if they see a thread or post like that that gets reported?

On the whole I think I take a pretty laid back approach and adopt a "Take It Easy" policy in general. "Television & Film" is a pretty broad topic, but it does annoy me when certain contentious themes/issues are needlessly getting pushed with the same or very similar "low content" threads. So maybe we could use a thread here to bounce around a few ideas/opinions. Anyway, other hot topics for discussion should probably be

-Those thinly disguised actress threads that lead to posts about feet and if they look fuckable
-Repost threads
-A recent increase in pornstar/actress threads. http://archive.foolz.us/tv/thread/36789013/

Gentlemen, I'm sure you've noticed the 4chan Summer Cup threads.

In my opinion, I do not think they should be purged from the boards that have teams playing, it is beneficial for the community by fostering a healthy dose of competition and each board turns it into their own, ie; /tg/ rolling for victory, /x/ creating sigils to help power their team, etc.

What does NSFW mean to each of you? Archived
Does a pic become SFW when you cover genitals/nipples?

If yes, then does that make pic related SFW?

As far as I understand, a pic is NSFW when you can't show it at work without getting fired. Therefore pic related is NSFW since it is depicting a sex act (in this case a porn actress is RPing as a minor while giving a blowjob). The fact that there's no frontal nudity doesn't make it automatically SFW.

I'm bringing this up because after I ban requested this pic on /vp/ (a worksafe POKEMON board, which means that this pic was also completely off-topic), one mod approved my ban request.

Then another mod came and reversed the ban, citing 'lack of nudity'.

Well? How do yo then define it?

Vee Gee General Archived
When I first took /vg/ I admit, I underestimated how goddamn messy of a board it is to janitor. I think its fairly common knowledge at this point that /vg/'s report queue is terribly bloated, though despite how problematic some particular generals are the problems that keep coming up and creating that giant wall of reports and quite widespread. The top 5 categories of reports I'll see on /vg/ are as follows:

1. Obvious, well known ban evaders
2. People I'm not sure who are ban evading but they're using avatars anyways
3. Porn
4. Heavily sarcastic and vitriolic posts used in a spiteful manner (shitposts)
5. Offtopic material

After that its a tossup between people announcing reports or people reporting posts that don't need to be reported.

1 and 3 are no-brainers so that situation can't really be helped beyond working on the report page, and honestly aren't that big of a deal. 4 slightly moreso but there's not much to comment on, the br for them is already there. What makes /vg/ such a grueling place to janitor is 2 and 5.

2 is a longstanding issue with a policy that I still feel like there's not too much consensus on. It is against the Global 13, and not to call anyone out but I feel like we janitors don't get much support or even direction on the issue with /vg/ being the place it is. It is an endemic problem, but at the same time, it is consistently a major source of reports across /vg/, and having a concrete say in the matter would make the cleanup far easier.

5 is similar to 2 in the sense of "how much should we shit ourselves about it," but far more annoying since this is an issue specific to each general. First there's the issue of babysitting the threads, then trying to keep it gone, then making sure you don't seem like 1.8picohitlers on /q/ later in the day. Honestly, if it wasn't getting a solid chunk of reports everyday I wouldn't put too much thought into it, but it gets a lot, too many to ignore.

The possibility of Janitors gaining the ability to ban request those abusing the report system. Archived
Often times the reports queue gets filled with a slew of posts that just don't break any rules.

Most of the time they are just mean spirited posts and sometimes they are completely random, but the fact of the matter is that they have no business being reported.
It seems as though sometimes a user will just go on a report rampage, which ends up being very annoying and a huge waste of time for the janitor(s) on the receiving end who have to clean up each report. (Which obviously is why we have a rule against false reporting)

So I was wondering if it would be possible, plausible, and reasonable to give janitors the ability to BR those who sent the false report for abusing the report system, as finding a moderator on the IRC channel who has enough free time to deal with such small matters seems almost tedious.

Yet Another Suggestion ... Archived
This is not a fully realized thought, of course, but the idea sort of came to me over quiet coffee and RF3 on the DS; but I thought I'd pose it here and see if it could maybe generate some discussion or, at least, an "impossible. no. sorry. been discussed before."

One of the more annoying aspects of spam/flooding is the image problem. The constant repetition of the same image over and over again. While I realize that it would be a logistical nightmare to put a block on image data because that can just be changed by adding a pixel, why not make a Mod/Jani option to just keep the image itself so that it generates the "Duplicate Image Found" error without the standard link to where it was found?

Obviously not in full view or anything accessible to the users, but clandestinely on the server? I realize that this can run into some serious storage issues, but again, this isn't a fully thought out idea.

This primarily would stop bots. A live user can manually just change the image and repost it. If it's part of moderation in the form of a "Preserve Image" check box when you BR or Delete a post, then that specific image can never be posted again by anyone.

I'm sure there are gaping problems with this idea, most notably storage space over time, but if someone out there more knowledgeable and sober than me can sort it out, it would be a wonderful thing. Might also encourage people to post original images instead of re-upping the same thing we've all seen a million times.

tl;dr bullet points:
- Add a "Preserve Image" checkbox on the BR/Delete Post thingy.
- Checking the box saves the image to a secret location on the server.
- Attempts to repost that image after deletion gets the "Duplicate File Found" error.

And done!

Also, I don't know if this is intentional or not but thread deletion results into nullifying the thread creation timeout. Sometimes, you will see OPs recreating their threads after a fast deletion. I think the timer should continue to count down in...
I get what you're saying, and I understand it would be helpful, but I can't imagine us being able to make the call as to whether or not an image can ever be posted on the site again.

Well, I suppose a ruling is in order. If one has already been made and I missed the memo, I apologize in advance.

I'm sure the other /jp/ Janis know what I mean when I say "Gravure General". Obviously the "Net Idol General" is nothing but Milk dump and, well, no. Just no.

Gravure General, from what I've personally seen, is nothing more than /s/ dumps. The counter argument that is applied is to Touhou threads, that the claim are basically /c/ dumps.

As /jp/sies, we can go around and around all day on /q/ about what should go where and do what with whom, but is there an official Yes/No when it comes to image dumps? As some of you have seen of me, I have very little interest in what the users want. The monkeys shouldn't run the zoo.

But ... I've seen such things come and go here and there as time marches on and, well, I don't want to screw anyone over by removing something that I should have let stay.

Obviously, Touhou is fine. Specific Idol discussions are fine, AKB etc, and Milk can die in a fire. But, I'm a little iffy on the whole Gravure thing.

If someone would enlighten me, I would be most appreciative.

/jp/ has proven that they can discuss anime, videogame, light novels and gravure. Even JAV in rare occasions. And yet we bring down the hammer hard on the kuroko, on th...

Agreed. Gravure is pretty fine, honestly. It's still an otaku interest that can fly on the board, as long as it doesn't dominate it.
Alrighty and thank you both. I reckon for now I'll stay the course and see how she goes.

Abuse a privilege, lose a privilege. Makes perfect sense to me!

Thanks again for clarification. :3

>>>/co/48271612 I wonder how hard /co/ is going to spam HSG the day homestuck ends
>>>/co/48271620 Why would /co/ spam us
> /co/
> us

A subculture on /co/ that in every sense of the term believes it is separate from the board, beginning with but not limited to complete disregard for the board's rule and culture.

Ironic shitposting and spamming, blogging, inane lifestyle questions unrelated to HS, arguments about triggers/fat people, porn commissions, RPing, avatarfagging, and a shipping to content ratio that surpasses Gravity Falls General aka Twincest Central.

The regulars insist this is okay because they don't infest other threads on /co/. If anything, that makes it worse because it justifies ignoring the board hosting their general and discussions rarely indicate its residents are even familiar with /co/ content. The kind of discourse is a lot more visibly underage/hikki, with the kind of "validate my life" horseshit /co/ has largely managed to avoid.

Literally the only link HSG has to /co/ is that HS is putatively a webcomic, but given HS's roots in video game culture and occasional interactive content, it seems like it belongs in /v/ or /vg/ a hell of a lot more than /co/, and its cultural disconnect would be far smaller.

I get that this is easy to boil down to "NOT MUH /co/" but it's really demoralizing clearing a level of shitposting I don't see elsewhere on /co/.

I would like to seriously suggest /vg/ generals that have run their course be retired by staff. If a general can't sustain an adequate amount of topic related discussion then it's time for them to go and any new discussion to be sent back to /v/ unless it becomes a problem like before.

/vg/ in its current state is a bit of a laughing stock because not only are shitposters and random off topic "this is a chat room" posters are allowed to stay, but that's the precedent set.

Retiring generals like the KS or Mass Effect generals will set an opposite example that I think might help the boards improve tremendously.

Thoughts from fellow staffers? Preferably ones who frequent or are familiar with /vg/.

As another point you could always just say that's what you intend to do and we could see if there was any effect, without taking any action at all.
As a final point because I'm going to wager mods don't dig the idea, and an updated perspective after discussing it with mods I'd like to point out the furry vn generals that occur on /vg/.

They are probably the only general I can actually get rid of. They go through great efforts to police them...

Do you suppose any good would come of changing the name of /jp/ to Otaku Community?

Culture: The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.

Some Otaku may have some things in common, while others have other things in common, but I'm not too sure that there's anything "culturally" true for all Otaku as a collective.

"Community" has less of a hive-mind feel to it. Less power-ranking involved as to "who is more misunderstood", etc.

'Tis just a thought.

It seems that some kind of caching is going on in the database. The extension I use automatically appends a random variable to the report page's URL which somehow forces the server to treat reports as unique requests.

Perhaps the source code for the reports page could check the query against non...

Since us /gd/ janitors were supposed to get together to talk about the board but never did, let's just do it this way.

Specifically, there seems to be something resembling a consensus on the board about the sticky needing to be changed, the two main critiques I keep seeing being that 1) GIMP is shit and shouldn't represent the board, and 2) graphic design is more than just using software to make and manipulate pictures.

Also, use this thread to submit possibilities for a new sticky image.

I was thinking we could add a few more rules, in addition to all requests belong on /r/, to the sticky to avoid confusion on certain topics such as:

1. On the topic of piracy you may not request or post links to warez: cracks, keygens, serials, etc, or warez sites; these threads will be deleted ...

New form of image embedding for movies Archived

Silver Linings Playbook was broken into MP4 chunks, encoded into JPEGs whose appearance is a screengrab of each chunk, and with the userscript installed the script strips off the header, rewrites it as a blob and points a VIDEO element at the blob.

As someone who remembers Lithursday on /b/, this is probably worth detecting and blocking for the same reasons.

The image is the OP image for analysis by whichever devmod cares to pick it apart.

This issue may also be affecting the text boards somehow
>>2424
bah the link 404's but some user has reported the issue in the text board thread on /q/
It seems to only be affecting the stuff from the board itself. It doesn't happen from the actual Janitor screen (with all the reports and such).

So, it means unless someone reports it, I can't BR it.

Quick fix to that: Report it yourself! Then it shows in the Janitor screen.

lgbt and the bear threads Archived
Been some discussion about the sudden deletion of Bear threads on /lgbt/, so I thought I'd grab a little clarification since I haven't actually seen the threads themselves.

The "bear" community (burly gay men) is part of the lgbt community, so it would seem fine in its essence. Now, if they're becoming /soc/ hook-ups or porn dumps, I can understand that.

It's really more of a curiosity and nobody's archiving lgbt yet, so I can't go look for myself.

I've seen them and they've been ONLY porn dumps (/hm/ material) or hook ups (/soc/ material), not a curiosity. If any are in fact curiosity or anything that pertains to /lgbt/, then of course they will be left untouched.

>Ban evasion will result in permanent bans—no exceptions.

The whole discussion about the threads' place in /vr/ or /v/ is shedding some light into the ban evasion thing some time ago
http://rememberedoldbuddy.tumblr.com/post/44857563992/from-the-blog-author-about-monday-night

We need more than just an uneducated hasty decision that will hang over us for years. OP is becoming more of a personality and clearly going against the few rules we try to uphold, sticking with /vr/ for now not out of concern for the topic and the board's goals but because "moderation is almost as lax as /v/". Really don't see why we need to make an exception for threads that are turning into far too much trouble to keep around.

Of course this is the least of our problems but it would help to have a clear response on the status of ROB threads.

The /vr/ ruleset seems poorly thought out, at least according to the sticky.

Is the intention to exclude true 3D console games/32bit era games so that people can speak about a certain era in each respective camp? As in, the golden age of consoles, PC games, and arcades? If so, why not word it something like:

"Welcome to retro games.

This board is for the discussion of classic, or 'retro' games. Retro gaming means computer games and arcade games (including pinball and other similar games you would find in an arcade) that existed before the year 2000, and consoles from the fourth generation and earlier."

I've removed the part about fifth-gen consoles. 1999 is still the cut off year. Everyone is going to have a different definition of retro. A line, however arbitrary, has to be drawn somewhere.
Let's party like it's 1999 then.

I attached this... possibly the only good thing to come out of /v/...

Would have been better if it were merely replaced with a ban on sixth generation and later IMHO. There are some people in /vr/ who are pushing Dreamcast and even Gamecube and PS2 games now.

You could always try just using the Rizon web IRC. It's really simple.
I have since resolved it. The web IRC is super simplistic. Look forward getting to know all of you:)
New Janitor here, make sure that you have OpenSSL running. I had that same problem earlier, but restarting OpenSSL and HexChat fixed it. Hopefully that will fix it for you too.
