But before anything else I'd just try setting the main monitor to 60hz and seeing if that helps. If it does and these other two things don't, you could probably get some tiny CLI program and make a shortcut to quickly change it 60 before you start SDVX, then back afterwards.

It's more than you can waggle your way through 99% of the content in CHUNITHM with "good" scores, and pushing for actual accuracy beyond that requires autistic understanding of and patience with the input system that most players ignore, and those that don't are probably good at other games too. SEGA games seem to have groomed people into enjoying puzzle charting because, instead of addressing some skill gap, there's usually just some "trick" that they need to figure out, and they feel good when they eventually do.

I got the same issue after switching to windows 11. Both my monitors are set to 120hz, note target set to 120 in spice along with the patches to disable power/monitor changes, and gsync is turned off in nvidia control manager. It'll run fine but during songs it'll drop to 30-60fps for 10 seconds or so occasionally. It seems like a vsync issue of sorts, though the fps counter in spice always reads 120fps. Other data works fine for me though sdvx is the only thing I run in windowed which might have something to do with it, but in windows 10 it always worked fine. Might just have to switch back even though I've been liking 11 ltsc.

I'm not sure how to word this without sounding retarded. I'm playing Project Diva for reference but its a trend I notice in all rhythm games. When a part is too hard/too fast for you to read the chart properly, do you keep replaying that same spot over and over again until you master it? Or do you accept that the song difficulty level is out of your bracket and play easier stuff until you can actually clear sections like the one that gave you trouble without rote memorization?

Depends on your skill level. The latter generally works better and is more fun, but if you absolutely need to learn a specific part that may not even appear much outside of a specific high level chart if at all, you don't have much of a choice. But it might be better to practice it slowed down at first or consider a different approach, and not just mash until it clicks (if it ever does).
But that's mostly the kind of shit you do in FT 10*s whereas in something like bemani you'll only ever grind specific chart categories (laser-heavy, scratch-heavy, etc.) for a while, no point getting stuck on one track when there's such a shitload.

As someone who only got to experience Sega rhythm games recently, I think puzzle charting is fine. If anything, I think it's not an entirely bad concept because being able to realize the trick then using that understanding to apply one's general rhythm game skills to hit it accurately can be fun. Though I guess if someone has only played Sega games, I can see how they can get a skewed perception of things. Not that I'm any better being a shitter in bemani games but I just enjoy things as I go.

That said, being 11 rating after 3 sessions of Chuunithm is somewhat concerning since people mald over being rainbow.

There is no magic number. You just go for what is comfortable for you, and it will change over time as you play more and improve. Just do some experimenting. Find a speed where your accuracy doesn't drift too far off to one side and can hit notes comfortably.

That part is correct, but not the first part of the sentence. You kind of have it backwards. Games that actually let you sightread and dont have garbage scoring systems make you exercise fundamental hand-eye coordination and dexterity rather than any song specific memorization. Therefore you can actually enjoy playing them much more moment to moment without having to stress out over getting specific patterns right - the goal never is to just PFC one particular chart for one particular song, the goal is to be able to consistently sightread stuff. Grinding only specific charts is actively detrimental to that goal, and proper exercise for those games actually does involve playing as much different stuff as possible.

If IIDXers didn't approach it as some sort of exercise as well, they wouldn't bother turning random on in the first place. The whole point of it is to exercise your hands for more awkward movements. It's just that fundamentally any sightreadable game is also a much more enjoyable experience in the moment once you learn the basics of sightreading, that you have a lot less of a dissonance between enjoying the game and exercising compared to memotrash where you usually only do one or the other.
