Went to the Sendai and Nara ones myself in November last year too (actually the first concerts of my life), Shamoji slapping was pretty fun so decided to pop up on a plane for 9 hours each way (just for 3 days between work) to see another show and some of the Setouchi Triennale.

This album is out now as of a few days ago, and I really want you to listen to it. It's consistent from front to back, framed as a 27 minute concept album. There's a lot of mixed genres here, from dream pop and shoegaze, to post and prog rock. She wrote two of the tracks herself, and others are credited to some niche artists including peppeterz and kurayamisaka.

The influence is pretty easy to hear, and I saw multiple people make the comparison already. Etsuko is her favorite artist, and she started her activities (about five years ago now) by posting a cover of After School Destruction. She did the 42 album challenge when it was popular a few years ago and put soutaiseiriron first too. I tried to listen to all 42 of them, but I had to drop a handful of them out of pure boredom (50TA for example). I also find "best of" or compilation albums difficult to listen to from front to back. anyway hikari was written by kurayamisaka (shoegaze), so check them out if you liked that track. my dead girlfriend also fits.

My favourite project of recent years sadly disbanded as they went into studio to record their first EP. Saw they live in a small club three times and they played something like sweeping landscapes guitars post-hardcore with some catchy riffs here and there. Sort of if you would've mixed bloodthirsty butchers, Number Girl and Tokyo Shoagazer (or Hum), basically sound that was just right up my alley.

Mentioning butchers I've always found extremely odd that the West just keeps ignoring them despite everything? They are (arguably) the most important band of Japanese post-hardcore, kocorono is about the most important album of Japanese post-hardcore; aside from that Number Girl eventually got at least bit of attention along with some other bands, but butchers remain relatively obscure, even acts like Art-School (no shade just interesting) are more recognized in the West than butchers. Always wondered why is that?

Also, why does japanese post-hardcore have such idiosyncratic and frankly fantastic lyricists? Or at least it had at the turn of millennium.

Because Number Girl and to lesser extent Art-school are also way more popular in Japan. Number Girl were selling out Tokyo Dome when Butchers were struggling to survive. Even after Hisako left Number Girl and joined Butchers it didn't help much(hot take, Guitarist wo Korosanaide is better than kocorono).

Well there will still be good seats and seats all the way in the back. I think last year our seats were good because of the first advance membership lottery. But all the seats are the same tier this year, and the shows are sold out, so you'll have to rely on luck for a good seat.
At least the arena shows get recorded and have bluray releases. They'll be streaming the Osaka arena show from April on July 12 on ABEMA PPV with overseas supported, so I'll be watching then.
