I strongly prefer enforced order: I would rather VNs have the strongest chance of being good instead of accepting the fact that they're going to be worse, but offer players the opportunity to skip to what interests them. There's appeal to dynamic order from a writing/storytelling point of view, but it's much harder to execute comparatively. Same. Enforced playing order usually indicates that the writer is ambitious and has a clear vision for the story they want to tell. It doesn’t automatically make the VN good as some writers simply lack the skill to execute their ideas properly, but I’d still rather see them try.

Another thing is that I’m also a big fan of the "build-up process" in any medium. It’s incredibly satisfying to be gradually drip-fed story hints and character lore through different routes, and then see everything come together in the end.

I'm a lot heavier on reading non-BL/otome games where I can say enforced order was justified in the ones I've read. NTA but personally, I would have to disagree on this point. If anything, the continuous content works against liking the character for me. Oftentimes, these characters are written inconsistently due to stricter time constraints on content production. Developers have to meet a tight schedule after all so I can imagine writer turnover is higher than average when compared to non-gacha games - especially if those games are long running ones.
While I suppose it could be my aversion towards gacha games after years of being burned by them, but it also feels like gacha LIs have a "cheap feel" to them which makes me less attached. If I want more content of a character I liked in a less popular game, I'd much rather make it myself. The stronger attachment to a well developed character from a finished product makes me inclined to make things more to my liking.

My problem with enforced play order is that if a route is slop I can stall the game for years. Skipping shit you don't like should be more normalized.

On the other hand, I've seen that contrast more in otome games. Your nice, cute character suddenly turning into a surprise rapist or pimp in the bad endings. I don't personally mind it, and I know others like that kind of contrast, but the problem is it's not explained well and feels out of character most times. It's not like he was slowly losing it, super obsessed with the heroine chan, or showed signs of being unhinged from the start. It just comes out of nowhere, like it was thrown in for shock value.
I get the appeal of contrast, but not when there's 0 build up or explanation. It's just poor writing, and those bad endings are often really short too because, hey cero c whatever.
