>>49699414>Do you find that kind of object interesting? A bit. Some were probably just used as prehistoric sex toys, but not all. It's funny to think from present day POV that some cultures just had representations of dicks all over the place.
>If so, what is the interesting history behind them? People have been making dick-shaped objects since the stone age and some of them are so big it's unlikely anyone was jamming them in. Prehistoric stone dicks have been found all over the world as far as I know.
>What were their political and social implications for society at the time? Those too big to be used were probably symbols of masculine power and fertility. The fact that some very old statues of dosojin (kind of road/border deities in Japan) are big stone dicks points towards some kind of territorial role. Kind of a surrogate of a big dude standing there on watch.
>Do you have a favorite shape or motif that you find interesting or cool? Not really a shape or motif per say, the aforementioned dick dosojin are interesting because of their role. The few modern holdovers of proudly parading big dicks around, like that one fertility matsuri in Japan are pretty interesting too. Goes to show how difficult it is to bury something so primordial even as times change. Also, if you want to be all pomo about it, you could argue things like skyscrapers and towers are in the same genre of big stone dick used to mark territory.
