>Shut down Chen Burgers>Upper management is awful and disorganised>Suspends people for retarded reasons like a prop gun>Overall full of homosexuals, adults acting like children, and people who tarnished the series
>>49550501Which one should I go to if I want to meet /jp/ anons?
>>49550786>Suspends people for retarded reasons like a prop gunThat person got shut down because a long history of trying to play both sides of the coin and thought the horrible management was on their side. Only thing you're forgetting is that the event is more like an LGBT touhou fandom meet up than anything. I don't want to derail the thread too much but that person has been a con Karen for far too long at so many touhou events.
They also supposedly banned the one touhou doujinshi seller that came the first year because they are trying to keep it "kid and family friendly".
>>49550903I believe Retaisai and Comiket have the most /jp/ people at them, I'm not sure but before covid I remember threads about meetups at some place near the event. If I had to guess the same amount of /jp/ going to touhoufest are also going to anime expo.
>>49550786I mean, you're not wrong lol.
>>49550786Hey now just because the same people behind touhoucon and ran it into the ground first year while also stirring up drama within the western community doesn't mean they are going to do it again. Right?
Where are you guys finding this drama? Can I be let in on it pretty please?
>>49551436>Retaisai and Comiket have the most /jp/ people at themThis anon is out of touch. I met exactly 1 and 0 /jp/ anons at reitaisai last year. While I didn't go to comiket, those threads also seemed to have 0 meetups
>>49551646>I met exactly 1 and 0 /jp/ anons at reitaisai last yearThere's the cosplayer anon who complains about Anons never saying hi to him who's a regular at Reitaisai
>>49551646It mostly boils down to dumb twitter drama which now moved over to bluesky. A few people I followed vented about touhoufest giving them the run-around on how to book, if they had a booth or not, time frames, and rules in general.
As for Reitaisai I am pretty sure a lot of /jp/ goes but I think only a couple who cosplay I know one Parsee talks about how they never see any anons. Comiket is probably where most go, but then again threads on comiket days are far quieter than before the coof.
Not that it's unexpected but damn, some /jp/sies are just really miserable
>>49551738>>49551646It really does just boil down to petty drama from twitter that sadly spills over into the real world. A few of the people I am looking forward to seeing all had huge meltdowns during the election and anyone not following them to bluesky is a nazi chud. So I am keeping my expectations very mid this year. It's a decent enough event with enough things to do for an afternoon and if anything I think some are salty for spending so much money to come to touhoufest to realize the entire event could easily fit in a mid sized grocery store parking lot. Maybe the room parties make up for it but I couldn't imagine flying in for this.
The biggest drama I recall happening with touhoufest is mostly what anons have summed up thus far baring the "14 year old" incident. I'm not sure what to make of that situation since the person who made the most fuss about it was supposedly a staff member and mod who could have shut it all down?
I'd just say go and enjoy the event and hope the protests for the 14th don't reach the event center because FYI it's next to city hall and the police department.
>>49533722 (OP)I'm not a troon.
>>49551646They shut down a dude making Chen Burgers
>>49550501Give more details on the russian one. What is it called?
Cali is a communist deathcamp
>>49551951I wasn't talking about the drama. I was talking about anons clearly looking to be negative on purpose.
Does EU has a touhou themed convention like this?
>>49550497Gross. No.
>>49550257So speaking as someone who's been to a lot of organized meetups, some thoughts for this to work out
1. We need a more specific meeting place. The parking lot is about as big as the venue itself. Maybe instead post the hotel room when you arrive there.
2. 10pm on a Saturday really does not seem workable. Concerts and autographs are probably going to extend to about 12-1am Sunday, so no one will be able to hang. This is also when other groups will do after-parties in bigger numbers (last year I think they did Dennys and karaoke to like, 4am). Considering the size of the meet you might want to make this happen during a Friday or maybe after the con closes on Sunday. The atmosphere would be more chill for a smaller turnout
3. As the host you should probably do something a little extra on your part. Last time I went into a small gathering with 4 other people, it was on the promise of food. Other people I know, such as Soku players for instance, will likely be doing group hangouts centering around the game. Even those I don't know will be organizing private hangouts for close friends. Have a little something extra to make attendance feel welcome and worth it. We could wait a bit in the hotel room just socializing then go fuck around the general area, go check out the mixer on day 0, etc.
4. This isn't really a necessity but talking with the anons who you feel will be attending would help you get an idea of the kind of people they are and thus what kind of planning would work best for everyone.
I'll try my best to see if I can make it anyway, because damn, cons are always busy. But still, important to keep this in mind.
Ever since you guys mentioned gay sex years ago I promised myself to never attend any event hyped by you.
>>49552808Only the most desperate people willingly plan gay sex at cons. And it has to be planned when they do.
>>49552808Same
The more I've known about the franchise and what happens outside of it, the less it makes me want to meet real life people that like it.
I was thinking about attending this event in particular to sell some stuff but the only thing I've heard that happens is gay men in drags acting like little girls running around.
Not exactly a thing to look foward to
So for those who are actually going
>What are you going for?
>Will you be cosplaying? If so, which character?
>Where are you flying in from?
>How many times have you been to this event?
>How many conventions have you been to in general?
>Where do you lean socially when it comes to places like this?
>>49552957>What are you going for?Basically everything. The programming, the vendors, the social aspect, the grassroots happenings, etc. Also going to meet some old friends there too.
>Will you be cosplaying?I was thinking of doing a Ronald McDonald Flandre until I realized doing that in the middle of SoCal during summer would be miserable. Maybe another time?
>Where are you flying in from?NorthEast US
>How many times have you been to this event?Been to both years prior
>How many conventions have you been to in general?Been going to them since I was in high school. I think at this point the number of cons I've been to is around the 50s, maybe 60s. I like this one because it's one of the only ones remaining that really captures what was actually enjoyable about cons.
>Where do you lean socially when it comes to places like this?I try to meet and get along with as many new people as possible. I've never really tried too hard to make new friends at cons because IMO they're not the best places to start connections. Especially not for someone my age. But I'm open minded to the idea if there's enough social contract to be maintained.
>>49552796According to this anon
>>49550501Russia has a small meet. Maybe you could find something in France also? They're the biggest weeb country in Europe as far as I know.
>>49552979>look at me im rich as fuck and can afford to fly cross country and go to a fuckton of consOn behalf of everyone else here, fucking kill yourself
>>49552437lmao people know about it outside of russia? it's called "russian touhou fest", they've already done one and it was a huge mess with a lot of organization problems, i don't recommend going. it's comically overpriced, the organizers are two randos that nobody in the fandom knows and have no convention organizing experience, the attendants seem to be largely cringe fumo-loving children. the saddest part is that people still went because we don't have anything else in russia.
If I know Japanese, will that help me make friends at a con?
>>49553387Yes of course it will. Everyone in the vicinity will instantly know by the look on your face that you know japanese and instantly respect you. Instant weeb cred. You can come up to anyone and become friends immediately because they just love you so much because you know japanese. Hell I'll tell ya more you'll be swarmed by chicks who want your cock purely because knowing japanese is so irresistably sexy. Or men if you're gay I guess. Very helpful
>>49550257>Raiko cosplayAbsolutely based. I won't be going but i hope you at least have a good time.
>>49553424That's great to know. Can't wait to fuck some crossdressing dude all night long.
>>49552807>Other people I know, such as Soku players for instanceAre you actually in the Soku community, or do you just know the players? Either way I probably know you.
>>49553132You know this is a convention thread.
>>49553387It'll increase the chances of certain people wanting to network with you. But making friends is a different matter. For that you need to be with others you can appeal to, and they need to be willing to reciprocate the connection. It's also important to note for the latter that it's not a default "you" problem if they don't. I enjoy talking to all sorts of people but I'm busy and comfortable with the relationships I already have.
If the /jp/ anon planning the room party can give a better time and place, and if I can see you there, we can probably at least chat.
>>49553450I haven't been active in the Soku scene in years. But I used to be active as a teen and young adult back around the IRC and /v/ Soku days.
I'm not familiar with most of the new blood. But I've definitely got enough connection to the likes of Tessiro, Genki, etc. Some oldheads may probably recognize my name, though I wasn't exactly a known player.
Some Soku players at the first year of Touhoufest recognized me for Melty Blood however
>>49553478Lmao I can't believe I actually know who you are. See you at Touhoufest, king.
>>49550786>>49552236But what is a Chen Burger?

>>49553743A dude set up a grill in the parking lot right outside the con. He was giving away free Touhou themed burgers he made himself (there was a print of bkub Chen on the buns). He also gave away bottled baka-water, all for free, but only under the conditions he knew you were a Touhou fan. The venue (Torrance Cultural Arts Center) is connected to a bunch of other places after all, which is why the parking lot is so big.
It also needs to be said that the staff didn't shut this down because they wanted to be no fun allowed. They did it because they had to maintain health regulations. As someone who's overheard staff talking about this, no one wanted to do it, but they all knew they had to.
It also isn't the drama the first anon was asking about. That's a different thing entirely that I don't think anyone even really cares about. Chenpai burgers being shut down on the other hand barely raised commotion.

>>49553865>It also needs to be said that the staff didn't shut this down because they wanted to be no fun allowed. They did it because they had to maintain health regulations. As someone who's overheard staff talking about this, no one wanted to do it, but they all knew they had to.No a Marisa cosplayer who was a staff member or volunteer it's unclear, shut it down because it was annoying to them, she literally called everyone in line or getting them kindergartens. There is no law or ordinance regarding anything Chen burger was doing, had be been inside the touhoufest area cooking aka past the ticketed area it would have been an issue.
https://x.com/chenposter/status/1810102261114409177
If what you said was the case AX, ALA, ComicCon, and many other cons here in the LA area would have a huge issue with every random street vendor setting up right outside their area of business.
>>49553990Yeah I am finally glad they got some good names, third time is the charm for this year.
>>49554267Well if that's true then that sucks. Hopefully won't be a problem this year for obvious reasons then.
>>49554267Yeah not to mention tailgating culture at sports events. There's no grounds for anyone to shut that down other than cops coming down to check for food licenses.
You guys think it's worth it just for the art? Ideally I'd get like a Sakuya tanktop and some stickers
>>49554306>>49554337What's even stranger about this is that he was doing it in the parking lot for the library, city hall, and public government buildings. It doesn't make sense for anyone here familiar with LA to not know that's public. Even if it was a no burn day, which it wasn't even the right time of year, he'd still be fine since it was being utilized to prepare food. It was strange but hopefully that was just a one time thing.
>>49554396That depends on who you ask. If you're the kind of person who buys a lot at cons you'll have plenty of vendors giving away good stuff. THfest always had a pretty decent selection of merch. A Sakuya tanktop may be too specific. Stickers not so much.
If it's anything like last year, you should have your hands full just buying stuff on Saturday. If you consider that worth it, go for it. I'd personally recommend checking out the other stuff the con has to offer though
>>49553865>They did it because they had to maintain health regulations. He only needed a parking lot permit to sell, there was no health regulations considering he isn't a business owner. The organisers are clueless about the law and did it out of spite. Oh but fags making extremely innapropriate remarks in an all ages event is okay. Plus Blake Izayoi goes in this event so its already enough to know how shit it is
>>49554782An anon already cleared that up
>>49533722 (OP)It's funny they scheduled it on Father's day, they knew nobody there would be busy
>>49555521You know there's such a thing as rescheduling, right?
>>49555595No what is that?
>>49555631It's when you take plans for one date and move them to another.
>>49553865Did they call the cops on him? Itโs only "illegal" if heโs selling but if he was giving food away for free he had every right to do so.
Nobody gets a permit anyways people sell food on the streets literally everywhere.
Sounds like the organizers were butthurt fags who donโt even live in LA.

It was cool seeing how Shihori changed throughout the years.
If they manage to get Stack to play Akatsuki Records songs or Shibayan my life would be complete
>>49573727There are no wrong reasons to enjoy touhou, or anything for that matter. Quit your 'holier than thou' attitude.
>>49573727Completely correct. For those kinds of people, Touhou could be substituted for any kind of gacha, completely disregarding what the franchise stands for. It is not supposed to be a commercial giant, and shmups are simply a fun genre for arcade enjoyers. This is how "tertiaries" are in general.
>>49573800agreed, i was so happy to meet all whe guests they had this year. I really hope to come again and see them again next year!
>>49573792You're right but that's neither here nor there.
>>49573802There are wrong reasons to enjoy things, but you know what? That's absolutely fine, you can enjoy something for whatever reason you want. The problem is when you try to push that onto others, or lie and say that the reasons they enjoy it are actually major elements of it.
Here's an example: The largest Western Touhou fangame community is the "Touhou Game Dev Hub". They've partnered with Touhou Station to do gamejams, which ZUN himself has played on stream, so they have a fair bit of "legitimacy". Outside of the Touhou Station collab jams, they typically host 3 of their own gamejams a year. Two of those have a random theme, usually just one word. But the 3rd gamejam is a Pride Month gamejam, the next of which is happening in little over a week and can be seen here https://itch.io/jam/touhou-pride-7
Why has the "official" Touhou game dev community done a Pride Month gamejam for 7 years in a row now? Because, in their own words
>we want to highlight Touhou Project's large international LGBTQ+ fandom, which has come about as a result of many themes and stories showcased through the series.Yes, because Touhou is supposedly full of themes and stories that attract them, as if they don't just latch onto anything that has cute girls and then try to claim it as their own.

I really enjoyed this yearโs touhoufest. I met a ton of new friends, my friends from different friends groups met each other and became friends, the concerts were great, I got to do some dumb shit in front of everybody at the cosplay competition, and the cosplay meetups were really fun.
That being said I was drunk every single night, sipping from a flask every day, slept like 4 hours a night, was constantly dehydrated, and ate like 2 or 3 meals total. Canโt wait for next year!
>>49575711Nice to hear you had a good time anon, i found someone who recorded all the events at the con.

Who were you cosplaying as in the contest? I really liked the kokoro dancer and the koishi kigurumi.
>>49577772I guess thereโs no harm in telling you since my pictures have already been posted on /v/hu and /jp/. I was the Yukari drinking from a flask.
>>49577772God, I love Kigs
>>49577772Is just me or there were much more cosplayers than before?
>>49578616Oh yeah there were. There were also a lot more people at Touhoufest in general. It seems to be growing every year
I hate how lazy 90% of the male cosplayers at Touhoufest are. No makeup, no shaving, no attempts to even try to look like the character, some don't even try doing the wig.
Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese are laughing at the absolute state of our cosplay.
>>49578643It is what it is. Call me insane, but I just respect that they have the passion to try it regardless.
Personally, I went all out for my cosplay. Shaved my entire body, full make up that Iโve been practicing for two years, false eyelashes, numerous props, styled wig, etc. I figure if Iโm cosplaying, Iโm going all out
>>49578643Bro, they are just anon neckbeards having fun and quickly throwing together a Halloween-tier costume, it's not fair to compare them with beautiful asian women who cosplay for a living. And I bet there were probably a few of the latter cosplay pro womyn at Touhoufest anyway, and asian conventions also have plenty of NEETs in joke cosplay.
>>49578551You are my favorite Yukari and you look like a so much fun to be around
>>49578746>it's not fair to compare them with beautiful asian women who cosplay for a livingI'm not, these are standards male Japanese cosplayers have. Most cosplay events in Japan even have rules that crossdressing cosplayers must have shaven bodies.
>>49578773>Most cosplay events in Japan even have rules that crossdressing cosplayers must have shaven bodies.
>>49578786"Most women are short"

>>49578760Well thank you anon, I appreciate that
>>49578727Can I ask how much you spent overall? I'd be interested in creating a cosplay for next year, but it's hard to justify if I'd only wear it once
>>49578810I donโt really know, because things like makeup and makeup removal wipes are consumable. Similarly, thereโs the price of the stuff I had premade vs the stuff I fixed/made myself. Iโm also on my second wig, but my friend has had a wig that lasted them over a decade through perfect maintenance. I guess most of that doesnโt matter if youโre REALLY only doing it once, but you never know. Maybe youโll want to keep doing it.
If you want to be super frugal, you can go with the bare minimum makeup/no makeup, making the cosplay yourself with raw materials and/or repurposing thrift store clothing. Itโs most likely youโll still need a decent wig, unless your natural hair coincidentally matches the character youโre cosplaying. If you do all that, you could probably pull off double-digit price USD, but itโll be hard and time consuming.

Sorry, I just remembered the type of shoe it was
Haven't been posting in here because I've been busy all weekend. But like every year, Touhoufest was peak. Lots of fun, lots to do, you're never bored so long as you enjoy the series. You can really be any type of fan and still feel like you belong with every other type of fan which is one of the best parts of this event for sure. Even if you're not the most social person, no one forces you to do things you don't want to so long as you don't stand out for any particular reason. Guests this year were choice as expected.
Love this event. Love coming back every year. Also meeting with /jp/ anons was a pretty good surprise. Sorry I ditched early every time (I did this with a lot of groups, even the one I was staying with). But it was nice to get to see who was who nonetheless. Turnout turned out to be bigger than expected which was a pleasant surprise. I think there were like 8 of us? Hope to meet more of you next year.
I'll dump pics when I'm not exhausted as fuck. Seriously my legs feel like wood right now.
>>49579312>>49579183All of this to gaslight /v/ermin into becoming fags so we can laugh at them and then go back to hugging our bodypillows.

>>49579509>>49579510Thank you! Converse, but close enough lol. I was looking for shoes that I could wear all day at a con that still felt quintessentially Yukari. I liked them so much that theyโre now my daily shoes too.
>>49578574Y-you too anonโฆ.
>>49579611Yo, I didnโt hear about the /jp/ meetup until after the con since I havenโt been here for a while. Youโll definitely see me next year.
>>49583035Yeah I'll remember this, Anon. I better see you next year!
>>49553865It's surprising how little drama surrounded this event after the person who shut it down and their group decided to skip due to backlash. Almost as if most of community drama was being artificially inflated by a certain group.
>>49583113And yet Chen Burgers didn't return this con either...
I wonder if there's some sort of connection...
>>49583131I mean if I knew there was a possibility of it being shut it down again, I wouldn't bother bringing a grill out to the event.
>>49583135I checked the dude's Twitter and last year he said that he was going to get whatever permits he needed and would do it this year. And yet he never showed up...
How crazy was the drug use at Touhoufest this year? I went to Comic Con on like 5 different drugs back in November and I had a fucking blast
>>49583202A few were drunk/tipsy or hungover from the late night afterpartys. Some dudes on Twitter said they were high at the event, but I didn't see anything. And then there were the madlads still drinking AT the event lel.

Haul 1/2
I'm happy to see the amount of fan comics / novels / games increase every year.
You can't really see it in this image, but the designs of the small figurines are amazing. The inside of Okuu's arm canon is a transparent red, and Hecatia has tiny metal-ish chains connecting to her orbs. Only complaint is that you can kind of see the typical 3D printing anisotropy in the way the light reflects of the plastic, but it's a good quality 3D-print so it's a subtle effect.
Also, please forgive me for succumbing to 3DPD; the Sakuya cosplay book was just too good and hit two of my weak spots with both maids and wedding dresses. I've crossed some kind of dangerous threshold...
Haul 2/2
I got a pin made by another anon, which was really cool. Maybe I'll try to do something like that myself for next year.
The top two rows are just second hand goods, not created by anyone vendoring at TouhouFest. (The top row is not even Touhou.)
The doujinshi bargain bin of one of the vendors was surprisingly reasonably priced: $5 for each book, so I gambled a bit and got some books just based on the cover.
>>49584349damn bro you spent a lot of money at that subtitle guy's booth
I only got the physical episode and the season pass
This year was a lot of fun. All of the anons I met were pretty cool people, I hope to see you all again next year!
>>49584067Sorry but cops, especially LA cops, would not see someone causing an infraction in a parking lot then walk over to con staff to possibly tell an unrelated party that they need to go tell someone to stop doing something that is an infraction. The deflect in the tweets makes no sense when you think about it for more than 2 seconds.
They do this all the time to idiots at cons smoking too close to the doors, drinking in the open, or being idiots at AX. They don't go to AX staff to tell them to tell the people causing an issue to please stop. That's the most retarded shit imaginable.

>>49584482NTA but that doesn't rule out the possibility of what nazucos said as being true first of all. Second, if the goal was to simply be a spiteful liar, then there wouldn't be a need to speak in favor of the tailgate as an idea either.
>>49584492Should sit on my face
>>49584507Cosplayer I suppose?
>>49584482The cops did the right thing, the Chen burgers were probably laced with mushroom milk, like the cookies at the /k/ meetup. Nothing is free lmao.
Did the animegao clownpiece really have to be showing off his bulge ?
>>49584482What could make the story plausible is if he was questioned by the cops and he said that the staff were cool with it. Cops will try to question the people running the event before pulling out the handcuffs, to make sure he has a food handler's license and was actually affiliated with the event and such.
"Infractions" range from jaywalking to rape, you're going to be confronted differently for both of those. For the first one, maybe not at all if the cop had sex with his wife last night. LA is a shithole county sometimes, but it's not enough of a shithole where giving away free burgers is grounds to get you thrown to the ground and detained without a chance to explain yourself.
I suspect the Food Trucks ordered Con Staff to take down Chen Burger, threatening that they would not serve in future TouhouFests if they didn't.
ChenBurger giving away free food (that likely was better than the overpriced slop Food Trucks were serving) was seen as a threat to their business. Bellies of hungry con-goers that could have been filled by them, and in turn their coffers filled in exchange. ChenBurger had to be taken out.
The truth will never be revealed by Con Staff since that will make Food Trucks never serve in future TouhouFests.
>>49584482anon you're expecting people in this thread to have ever interacted with cops
>>49584556I doubt it. The cosplay quality really went up this year.
>>49584574They weren't
>>49584504>Second, if the goal was to simply be a spiteful liar, then there wouldn't be a need to speak in favor of the tailgate as an idea either. That reads like those excuses from school where people would give the excuse of "I'd like to come over but my mom said..." so you could not look like the bad guy.

A couple of zoomers complain every year about this. And nothing is ever done about it which is, objectively for all parties involved, the best move to make. Make of that what you will.
Finally after days of unpacking and having to deal with all sorts of other stuff after the trip, here's my haul
>Touhoufest 2025 exclusive towel that I got from A-ONE throwing them into the crowd during the Saturday concert
>Reimu plush keychain that I got from someone handing out free stuff at day 0
>Badge, autographed by Shihori and miko
>Fumo Reimu shirt, underneath it is a Welcome to Hell shirt
>2025 Touhoufest tote bag
>Idea Factory bag and the stuff inside it
>Shihori pic autographed
>Lots of Reimu merch, mostly acrylic stands. Not pictured: A Reimu mini-figure
>Lots of prints from the same one artist
>Glowsticks (three on the bottom are the ones that don't work, three on top are the ones that do)
>Fumobiotics and the golden cube I drew in a bag to win it.
I had no idea what that last thing was at first but the guys at the Youkai Mountain booth told me they were mechanical parts you attach to your fumo to remote control them for movements. You can tell how ecstatic I was that I won this first try via luck of the draw.
Also sorry to say but to the anon who was cosplaying ZUN with all that Orange merch... I lost your pin. I seriously don't know where it went and I swear I remember packing it too. Not the first time this has happened to me. Hope you don't mind giving me out another next year..!
>>49591160Best thing for both parties would be those zoomers getting therapy. I get not caring to see porn but way too foten the whole label of NSFW gets used as a cudgel for anything or anyone they dislike. NSFW preferences aside without fail they always have a dozen other retardedly agro behaviours that make them complete nuances.
>>49591296Chill. It's not that deep.
>>49591316It is when you get a flock of these retards at touhoufest trying to brand you a sexual predator over something as basic as tweeting your foot as a joke
>>49591333I mean they're still just minors that don't know better and that it's not worth blowing up that hard over something that's easily rectified.
>>49591361>>49591333Also they're an extremely vocal minority anyway.
>>49591149>>49591160I think I'll participate next year and sell my own nsfw works
Just got home, so here's my merch haul. I was pretty broke this year, so I couldn't get too much. I don't really have any regrets other than maybe not being able to afford some t-shirts.
Either way, Touhoufest was amazing this year! It was great to meet all the /jp/ anons. One of them walked up to me and straight up asked, "Are you Yukaricosplayer?" It's a shame I was so busy this year, but maybe next year I'll have more time to spend with all of you.
>>49591180WTF THEY HAD FUMOBIOTICS THERE??? WHERE????
>>49591854>It's a shame I was so busy this year, but maybe next year I'll have more time to spend with all of you. This has been me and almost everyone else I knew. Someone just messaged me and told me the exact same thing. My roommates also complained that I kept disappearing without a trace. There was just so much to do this year. Which isn't something I can say I've felt about any other con I've been to.
>>49592040I won the box at the Youkai Mountain booth after luck of the draw.
So my key thoughts on Touhoufest 2025
>Easily the best year so far
>Being part of miko's first U.S. live on both Saturday and Sunday felt like a fever dream
>Getting to shout OPPAI OPPAI, OKII OPPAI, OPPAI EIRIN on stage with hundreds, if not thousands of other fans, at an "official" Touhou event, was the most transcendent experience I could have had as a fan
>Lobbycon day 0 was god tier
>I wish I didn't miss out on Denny's
>All things considered, I can't believe the spirit of the last two years was still kept entirely. How the fuck with an even busier schedule did we even get more silly funny moments than last year
>Got to meet basically all my con friends and even made some new ones. Didn't get to spend enough time with them but that's how these events go I suppose
>I should've gone with my Ronald McDonald cosplay. Next year for sure, no excuses
>Only complaint is about organizational issues and the venue desperately needing better ventilation. I don't think those two things were too much of a problem in the previous years but they were definitely more noticeable this year
>Holy shit I can't believe the Mystia's Izakya anime panel got so booked they had to schedule a second showing
tl;dr It was 10/10. I almost never have this much fun at cons and Touhoufest somehow just manages to make it work every year. I also like how ever since year 1 this event had endless naysayers but everyone who ends up going ends up having the time of their life.
p.s. Sorry /jp/sies for not hanging out with you more but at least know you weren't singled out in that regard.
Had a blast this year. Mfs losing their shit over le troons11!! just don't know how to take their normal pills and enjoy things. Last year I was a bit of a recluse, and just mumbled around like a retard asking people for photos. This year was a drunken party 90% of the time though and I would recommend going. Maybe I'll attend the /jp/ meetup next year so the mask can come off a bit more...
>>49591361Someone was malding over one of the artist booths having a "Do not let the french near me" joke so I mean...
>>49592170>Mfs losing their shit over le troons11!! just don't know how to take their normal pills and enjoy thingsThis is one of the first things we talked about at the day 0 /jp/ meetup. About over half the people there had the aura you would expect a typical /jp/ user to have, but even they laughed at how clearly fake that shit was. Any fan who goes has an amazing time regardless of background for a reason. Sour grapes wouldn't have the spine to interact if they had to anyway, as painfully evidenced by the Reitaisai threads.
>>49591820Best of luck anon. Mind if I ask for a link to your work? I wanna see if I can keep an eye out for next year.
>>49592227My retarded ass missed most of Day 0 because I couldn't manage the 17 hour straight drive to LA in the 24 hours required... had to stop and take a nappy at a hotel in SJ that was SO much better than my shitty ESA in LA. >>49592308>stick around the venueGraffiti is cringe, just give them out so I can take one home and put it on my laptop.
>>49592308Sounds like an easy way to get permabanned from the event. I wouldn't if I were you.
>>49592308I'd put one on my stinkpad
>>49592302>>49592308>>49592344Yeah as someone who was cracking racist jokes with his hotel roommates over the weekend, this sounds like a very stupid way to go overboard with a joke. Don't just assume everyone will or should be okay with it.
>>49592395Yeah, probably a bit too public. You gotta be a bit more discreet given the general audience of Touhoufest, and anyone caught with a sticker would almost absolutely be banned from the event if any got placed on the TCAS structure itself/in a public area. Gotta treat the venue with respect if we wanna keep going back. If I can't take photos of hairy men in the Japanese garden I'll shit my pants!!

Thread's reached its bump limit. Seems like all in all, the reception is overwhelmingly positive and that we'd be happy to do this again. Glad everyone else had such a good time, as they always tend to with this event.
I'll be seeing you all for next year's thread then. Hope to see even more of you in 2026.
I've always hated artist alleys because of how basic and uninspired they always are, but touhou always has a little more of that passion. really the only thing we're missing on this side of the ocean is doujinshi comics and music. though that might be a bit too much to ask for considering how old and niche the audience has gotten
>>49592465People were selling their own comics and CD's at the event though.
>>49592475damn I must not have been paying a lot of attention lmao
>>49592457fuck you
i didn't get to go i hope you die
I wanted to say that I had fun going again for my 2nd year.
Next year I am going to stop being a fat slob and get fit enough to not be embarrassed about cosplaying. I was also a bit disappointed that no one had a mahjong setup, so next time around I will bring a setup with me.
See you all again next year \(แตแตแต)/
>>49592504I didn't go inside to check but was there no Mahjong setup at the tabletop area?

>>49592508Oh they did? I should have gone exploring more then...
>>49592516To be fair I had to kinda go out of my way to find the tabletop area. It was right next to the Children's Art Wing in the Pine Wind Garden, near where they hosted the Touhou anime panel.
>>49592489If it helps, I hated going.
>>49592512How do I get money?
>>49592475What sort of CDs?
>>49592489Just go next year lol
>>49592527Why did you hate it, Anon?
>>49592537Original doujin covers of pre-existing Touhou tracks. Neo Sanctum is the first group that comes to mind. They did the same thing last year and released new albums this year, and I believe there were others too.
>>49592541The noises and sounds pissed me off. I know it's to be expected of a con, but the venue is 1/10th the size of the ones I'm used to going to. There were no places to sit and get a break from the commotion. I don't mind that kind of thing if I can easily find a place to sit away from it. The koi pond doesn't count because cosplayers are there and I'd rather not ruin their photos by standing in the back.
There was also a really loud protest on day 1 across the street. Nobody got hurt in it as far as I know but it could be heard from the con.
My main enjoyment of Touhou is the games, so a lot of the "secondary" stuff doesn't appeal to me too. I will not fault anyone for enjoying it, but it made the con a bit of a letdown for me. The artist alley was great, though. I do feel like I paid 40 dollars just to go in there and buy stuff from them, though.
At least it's not AX, nothing is worse than AX.
Few questions for people that went
Were there open setups for Soku or did people have to bring their own?
Was there enough content for someone going their solo, or is a group a requirement for optimal fun? Hanging out with /jp/ sounds nice
For any bad cosplays you saw, why were they bad? Any common mistakes to avoid?
>>49592512but i had a mahjong setup... just too busy to actually use it and none of the anons at the day 0 meetup knew how to play.
i expect everyone to learn how to play by next year
>>49592590>Were there open setups for Soku or did people have to bring their own? There are always setups for all Touhou games in the gaming area. There's also multiplayer Touhou game tournaments every year. You are however free to bring your own setup if you want. People did that with Melty Blood this year
>Was there enough content for someone going their solo, or is a group a requirement for optimal fun? Hanging out with /jp/ sounds niceYou can definitely solo the con if you want but cons are better 100% of the time if you have someone to go with. If you don't have anyone, just be on the lookout for a /jp/ meetup next year. If not, just being with the crowd when things happen can still be gratifying, even if you don't know anyone there.
>For any bad cosplays you saw, why were they bad? Any common mistakes to avoid? If this is asking how not to look bad in cosplay, I guarantee first of all no one is going to care when most of the ones there obviously aren't trying to impress anyone. But to answer your question, just don't be offensive. Being a fat dude in a dress is one thing. Being blatantly fetishistic for example is another. Just don't go out of your way to be weirder than average and you should be set. You're probably not going to wow anyone with a first cosplay either, so just have fun with it if you're going to do it. Pick an outfit that's right for you and complements your looks (if you're an average dude for example, maybe Rinnosuke.)
>>49592590as far as I know there were not any setups to play any of the actual games (big missed opportunity), though plenty of indie game jam stuff.
I saw plenty of solos having fun, though that's entirely on you and if you're capable of having fun with strangers at all. It's a networking event, after all.
I'm not uptight about other people's cosplays at all.
most people were halloween tier and that's totally fine.
>>49592626>as far as I know there were not any setups to play any of the actual games (big missed opportunity), though plenty of indie game jam stuff. You completely missed the gaming area right next to the entrance. There were a couple dozen computers and an UDALG tourney going on in there. Each had a steam account with every mainline touhou game and a few select fan games. I think they had a Soku tourney too but don't quote me on that.
>>49592633>I think they had a Soku tourney too but don't quote me on that.Ever since year 1 they've had tournaments for every multiplayer Touhou game, yes.
>t. Roomed with known Soku players this year so I know for a fact they entered
>>49592636Then where was the PODD tourney? Did I miss it?
>>49592639I haven't entered the gaming tournies since year 1 but I think they limit Phantasmagoria to 9 and 19. They have a lot of games to run and DD on top of that would be much.
>>49592633Yeah, this. They just rotated around the areas where the artist alley, arcade games, and other gaming were from the years before to give more space to the artists, and it was STILL crammed in there. Who knows how they'll manage next year.
>>49592645>they limit Phantasmagoria to 9 and 19
>>49592633oh, I went to the other arcade lmao
>>49592593Yeah I hear ya, I actually told myself as a goal this year I was going to learn to play Mahjong since I have almost little experience with many a tabletop games and I thought that one was the most interesting.
I will be sure to bring an extra table in case it gets a bit difficult to find a spot to setup or if they don't even have it next year.
>>49592536Well that depends, at any point you need to find any way to save up to go. I kinda went with less then the usual amount to be considered a good trip and con experience but most of the things to experience there are okay. Cutting back on the food vendor stuff will save you alot.
Just consider your options and plan ahead. It'll pay out when you do. I recommend the early bird badges since it's an extra 50+ usd if you wait
>>49592590>Were there open setups for Soku or did people have to bring their own? There was a BYOC setup near the entrance, and some ppl also bring their mini PCs, laptops, steamdecks, etc.. to play in that gaming hall area. There's also an arcade area too if you didn't bring anything
>>49592676People should keep in mind that Mitsuwa is literally a block away and you can buy real food at normal prices.
Gonna copy-paste an old ass Mahjong guide I wrote some months back for friends so you can read this and start playing instead of having to spend hours learning the rules. I recommend Mahjong Soul for a game client.
Mahjong is a 4-player game where each player is dealt a hand of 13 tiles. When it's a player's turn, they draw 1 tile and then have to discard 1 (with the choice to discard the tile they just drew included). The victory condition for each round is to have a winning hand (a.k.a. a specific combination of tiles that let you win) before the other players. Or at least the best hand before the tiles that can be drawn for that round run out.
As players discard their tiles, other players can pick it up (and it has to be the last one that was discarded specifically) should it complete a triplet (3 of the same tile) or a sequence (3 tiles of the same suit you count up, 1-2-3, 6-7-8, etc.) Note that tiles to complete a sequence can only be picked up if it's from a player to your left. Also more important to note that if you pick up a discarded tile to complete a triplet or a sequence, you have to put those three tiles out in the open to your right side. It skips to your turn if you do this and you have to discard one tile in trade after. Taking tiles from other players creates an open hand, a.k.a., part of your hand that you reveal to other players
Open hands dictate what kind of winning hands you're able to afford for that round. All winning hands are valid if your hand is fully closed. Some are invalid if you have an open hand, at the cost of being easier to form others since you're using discarded tiles to help reach victory faster
Generally speaking the harder a winning hand is to get, and the more conditions you meet to get it, the more points you accrue if you win a round. You don't have to memorize all the combinations. Just have a chart on hand and know which yaku (winning hands) are easiest to get
(1/2)
>>49592695Easiest yaku to go for are:
-All Simples (can be done with open hand): A pair and the rest of your hand is triplets or sequences without 1s, 9s, and non-numbered tiles
-Yakuhai (also can be done with open hand): Three of the same color dragon tiles, Wind tile of your seat (i.e. you're south, 3 south tiles work, north and west don't), or 3 East tiles (works universally) in your hand. The rest is 1 pair and triplets/sequences of any kind
-Fully closed hand that's just 1 pair and triplets/sequences of any kind (only works when fully closed)
If you get a winning hand as the player on a certain one of four seats (the east seat) you keep that seat and prolong the game for the chance to accrue more points. If you get a winning hand as someone not of the east-seat, the seats are forced to rotate. The game ends when each player has lost their east-seat or someone falls into negative points.
Some common terms (not important to know to actually play. Think of this as a translation because you'll hear these used a lot anyway for convenience)
-Chii: When you take the last discarded tile from the player to your left to complete a sequence
-Pon: When you take the last discarded tile from any player to complete a triplet
-Kan: When you take the last discarded tile from any player to complete a quadruplet because fuck them I guess
-Ron: When you take the last discarded tile from any player to complete a winning hand
-Tenpai: When you're 1 tile away from a winning hand
-Riichi (closed hand only): When you're in tenpai and you bet 1000 points you'll get a winning hand before the round is over and before others get their own winning hand (big payoff in return)
-Tsumo: When you draw a tile yourself that gets you a winning hand
-Dora: A specific tile randomly selected to be worth more points that particular round
Anyway that's everything you gotta know from the ground up exlained as straightforward as I can put it. If you keep going for All Simples, Yakuhai, or fully closed classic yaku as I mentioned, against easy mode AI, I think you'll get the hang of it really fast
>>49592676No, I mean, like, how do I get money? I don't have any I'm NEET.
>>49592702Um, have you considered working?
O.O
>>49592702all of the easy money has dried up
if you weren't gainfully employed before the plague you've got some difficulty ahead of you
>>49592673Arcade + BYOC =/= Gaming area
>>49592702...get a job?
>>49592702Well the simplest option is to find some form of job be it a regular or part time one NEET anon.
I should let you know that I went despite not holding a job as well. I was just smart enough to save up and not spend too much money since I knew I wanted to go this year.
>>49592695>>49592699Thanks for this anon, I'll be sure to study it and keep with my promise to learn this funky chinese game. Time to grind Mahjong soul
>>49592582>There were no places to sit and get a break from the commotionJust FYI, there's the Pine Wind Garden, the tabletop gaming area in that garden, the Assembly Hall (sometimes), and the building that connects the garden to the courtyard. That last one tends to be extremely empty.
>The koi pond doesn't count because cosplayers are there and I'd rather not ruin their photos by standing in the backYou could also just sit on the benches to the complete other side where they wouldn't see you.
>>49592590>Were there open setups for Soku or did people have to bring their own?from being in the game room too much, there was plenty of setups with all the touhou games. you could bring your own setup, and im pretty sure they lent out controllers too.
>Was there enough content for someone going their solo, or is a group a requirement for optimal fun? Hanging out with /jp/ sounds nicemy first year was mostly solo. i ended up talking to only a few people, but it was fantastic. meeting with anons or people in the game/arcade rooms is a good way to talk to more people, they're all chill. except for some proud /pol/fag who got himself banned
>For any bad cosplays you saw, why were they bad? Any common mistakes to avoid?i don't remember any egregiously bad ones. it really depends on what you're aiming for. if you wanted to be cute, you'd probably want to shave your legs or wear stockings. meanwhile being american ringo would probably need some charisma with less focus on how accurate you look
Anyone going to Otakon? There's always a Touhou photoshoot and apparently a meetup there.
>>49592253Last year I won a legit copy of LoLK and a keychain of Reimu (who I'm sure you can guess is my favorite) also via luck of the draw. I didn't think it could get more insane this year but it absolutely did
>>49592773You know you're going to have to give us more details if you want us to solve your question then.
>>49592777I've been considering it. My job has me tentatively scheduled for a work trip that weekend so I'm going to see if I can get it rescheduled. Budgeting about a grand between plane/hotel/badge fees though so...
>>49592781Basically I'm retarded and can't do anything. I don't know how to get a job to get money to go to a Touhou event.
>>49592851Perfect for Human Resources!
>>49592851Condition yourself to be responsible day by day then. You don't have to shoot way outside your capacity, but you do have to be consistent. Taking care of daily responsibilities like diet, exercise, cleanliness, can be a good start to manifesting responsible behavior. Gradually set the bar higher for yourself as you become more and more autonomous. Then get a job when you're ready.
No money, no Touhoufest. No job, no money. No responsibility, no job. Learn to cultivate responsibility. Simple as either you do or don't. There's no magic bullet that will gratify your every whim. The sooner you accept that the better things will be.
>>49592777Nah sorry bro I'm all conned out
>>49592880>magic bullet that will gratify your every whim.Hehe, funny that you phrase it like that...
>>49593682so many duplicates. gifts for friends who couldnt make it?
>>49593682love these Mokers keychains.
>>49592777There is a buffish cirno cosplayer who always goes to them. I think he lives over there now, haven't seen him at US cons in a while.
Found out my backwater country has pretty cheap flights to LA, it'd be fun to attend next year but I'm a bit concerned about not knowing anyone. All other cons I've been to are a blast because of friends and acquaintances, while this would be quite the departure. Wish I had buds into 2hu.
>>49595903Look forward to the /jp/ thread for next year and you should know where to find us. Even if you don't end up hanging out with us, there's eventually going to be stuff you can just be part of as a crowd. Unlike other cons, the crowd-stuff is also fun because Touhou is niche, so you actually end up feeling part of something as an enthusiast.
>>49596171We can't bring your spirit around with us next year if you do anon. Please be sure to consider your options and try to meet up with us again next year
>>49597111No worries. Best of luck tabling next year.
>>49591361>just minorsmaybe during touhoufest 1, old enough to drink at this point somehow
>>49597513If these conversations keep getting treated universally as us vs. them, on knee-jerk reaction, the outcome will be needlessly worse half the time. They may be older but the newer generations are also maturing less slowly is the point.
>>49592702Rob a bank, read about disguise techniques (like putting a rock in your shoe to change your gait) used by the CIA and other spies beforehand so you donโt get caught. Read about bank robbers that did and didnโt get caught, and crime statistics to know your odds.
