There is a recap movie (Rondo Rondo Rondo), which tie-in a bit better to the sequel movie thanks to additional scenes and also a "season" of short comedic episodes featuring the cast introduced by the game (Siegfield, Rinmeikan and frontier) called Conte all starlight.
If I remember right there is cut where someone spliced the additional movie scene into the first season.
After the sequel movie there is the VN, El Dorado which is pretty much the conclusion for the Kukugumies.

If you want more content there is also Arcana Arcadia, the final story and culmination of the mobage, it's pretty nice despite being trapped by its origin.

Maybe I wasn't really clear, but yes the movie is enough of a closure by itself and while the VN is set before the movie yet the epilogue adds more details to the movie closure (without going into too much spoiler).

The gacha has its own story that runs parallel to the movie, but if you watch the stageplay (or Starry diamond) it adds to the story of the characters if you want to see more of them.

D4DJ is niche but Denonbu doesn't have an anime or gacha AFAIK (they collabed with us earlier this year to get some of their songs in our game, even) so the only real point of comparison is the music and (probably) lives?

That being said, Denonbu has Bandai money backing them up so I imagine they're more successful just on that alone. From lurking, it looks like DJs were bigger than Denonbu at the onset but we fell off way harder than they did over the years, especially after the Bushi pullout (new Denonbu songs still get ~70-100K views, new DJ songs only get ~10K or so)

Personally I saw the first season as more of a sports anime with cute girls. Idol DJs trying to work their way up in the school to win the big tournament before ultimately losing (which is your hook to go watch their continuing adventures in the gacha). It was a very focused show, even if it wasn't the best.
2nd season was basically just 12 disconnected episodes of random one-off performances because they insisted on shoving all 6 OG bands in the show. I cared because I liked the gacha but I can't imagine it was even remotely enjoyable for a casual audience.
