My forge has been unbearable lately, for some reason my first gen is always unusually slow compared to any subsequent ones, it also still sometimes just freezes for entire minutes when switching models, and there are times when hitting "generate" either freezes my entire PC and forces me to unplug it or the generation bar just gets stuck at 0% (actually, the 0% doesn't even appear), when that happens I see this in the console.

Very minor nitpick from a Civit user, and moreso venting about my autism, but I hate the daily buzz use being slapped to my face for wanting to check if someone on my content's reception. It's like money, even if I can afford I hate being "on the red" even for just a day, I hate the mere idea of it.
So i'm sitting here with 4.5k, mostly on my comfort zone, sometimes i'll explore a LoRA I think looks neat, but i'm still a beginner in all but knowing a few Touhou artists I like. Sometimes it looks okay, other times it has potential if I experiment some more, but with high-res cost and other fixes, it quickly adds up and i'm already "done" for the day. Pic sorta related.
That and lacking confidence in my modest needs to be happy clashing versus that little voice that's more ambitious and that i haven't completely shut down, and seeking acceptance from the good will of those who only wish to see me improve. I guess that gives me a microscopic glimpse of what artists go through and that annoying phenomenon of them suddenly deleting everything and disappearing.

I've also been struggling but it's mostly on the prompt side of things as I've already settled on a style that I like. I'd really like to make more complex images but I can never seem to get the AI to do exactly what I'm envisioning, and I'm too stubborn to settle for close enoughs. Images with two subjects are still as difficult as ever even with Coupler especially if you want them to be interacting in a certain way. On that note, I feel like all Forge Coupler really ends up doing a lot of the time is generating both subjects in their own images and then "glueing" the results together. "Looking at another" often doesn't work because it doesn't actually know where that "another" is because they're being generated separately. Workflows haven't really worked for me either...

Then I painted a blue sky and some water over the Chiyuri that was originally in the first image (I didn't save that one, sorry) and pasted the cropped Chiyuri over the area that I manually painted: https://files.catbox.moe/qp6t4g.png
Then I img2img upscaled the image at a high enough denoise (0.7 I think?) and a 1.25 resolution increase until I was satisfied. I ended up with this image which for some reason had a second Yumemi in the background (the AI insisted on genning background characters even though I added those sorts of tags to the negative prompt): https://files.catbox.moe/7stbkd.png
Then I removed the extra Yumemi, cropped a better Chiyuri hand from another gen on top of one of her existing ones, removed one of the extra anchor logos from Chiyuri's hat and added notice lines to Yumemi: https://files.catbox.moe/5p1tcb.png
And afterwards I just upscaled this image at 0.3 denoise and used ADetailer to get the final result.

Drawfag here and AI art is genuinely hard. I don't know if it would take years to learn, but prompting is not only bothersome when you want something highly specific, but also really fucking embarrassing. And it's not like I don't know how it works, I do, I had to study generative AI at university, among other things. Maybe I'm just bad at putting things into words, but the specific lingo used for prompting is straight up cringe to type out, I give up halfway through every time because the idea doesn't even sound appealing anymore when I put it into such words. I would genuinely rather just draw it than explain it to AI in a really unflattering way and not even be guaranteed that the machine will get it right. And that's not to mention keeping track of all the editing software that's used to upscale, denoise, repaint, etc the pictures - it's really really confusing and clunky as hell. Drawing gives you more control, isn't such a hassle, can be done at any time without even necessarily sitting at a computer, and is just more fun mechanically. But I've also been drawing since I could pick up a pencil so that's that.

You unironically have a massive advantage here compared to prompt-only pure t2i.
You can MSpaint the laziest shit imaginable and feed it in with a decently high denoise and get more or less what you attempted to draw.
The better your initial drawing, the better the output with less denoise... but then at that point, you might as well just keep drawing and preserve dat sovl.

That's the thing, though; you do have control. I2i (or more precisely the denoise factor, plus CN if you're willing to fiddle with that) is completely granular. No raw examples, since my shitscribbles are embarrassing and I'd much rather people appraised the final product (with all the dissonance and confusion that goes), but I've been doing mixed/AI-assisted/human-assisted/whatever you want to call it since SD1.5. Fact, I've been told to KYS by both the anti- and the pro-AI folks because of this since, apparently, both sides feel cheated thereby. Ain't that grand? Used to be people would be wowed and ask, "How'd you make the AI do that?!" and I'd smile quite smarmily and say, "Magic. :)))" Nowadays, it's pitchforks right out of the gate...

... Anyway, it's a matter of spending some time and striking a balance that tickles your personal sensibilities. There're elements in my stuff that may easily be relegated to AI, which I still pedantically do by hand. Then there are elements AI simply can't do and simply need to be done by hand. And then there are times when the RNG of AI will result in a way more interesting take than my own. It's a novel and, honestly, fun process. Truth to tell, if not for AI, I would never have remembered/re-learned how to (imagine sarcastic quote arrows here) draw. Interneters tend to get hung up on t2i as the "killer app" of SD, but it's i2i where real magic happens, IMNSHO.

Is it a learning curve? Well, sure. Same as any other new tool. Trust me when I say, though, it's not tsukumogami science.
