The gap between her intimidating oni reputation and her actual personality. She’s this ancient, incredibly powerful oni who could crush mountains, but she’s also just a straightforward, honest person who loves a good fight and respects strength. No scheming or manipulation, just pure oni autism.

Petite Yuugi is best Yuugi! ZUN’s original design shows her as relatively small and compact, which makes the contrast with her ridiculous strength even better. The fanart that turns her into She-Hulk completely misses the point. The gap moe of tiny girl with mountain-moving strength is peak character design. (Suika does this too to some extent, so perhaps the niche is already filled?)

For SFW character stuff, anything that focuses on her relationship with Parsee or her interactions with the other underground youkai. A+ for including Yamame in there. The ones where she’s just being a blunt oni who doesn’t understand social subtlety are gold. Also love the doujins that play up her respect for Reimu after their SA fight.

That one was one of my favorites too. I like when she is depicted as looking strong yet not a full on gorilla. As far as design goes, her t-shirt look is still her iconic look for me, even if the kimono look has pretty much replaced it at this point. I like that look too, but t-shirt Yuugi will always be the default to me.

Im sure it's been said before by other people, or who knows maybe it's an original observation, but I was instantly hooked on Yuugi after facing her boss fight

Stages 1 and 2 of SA are just kind of mellow and easy, it is the first two after all
But Stage 3's stage music is already more upbeat than those previous stages, Yuugi herself has really cute artwork and a fun personality, and instead of running away like most mid-bosses do, she just stays on screen tossing enemies at you and drinking

Then you have an actual boss fight with a great theme and really memorable and difficult spell cards for a stage 3 boss, at least first time seeing them (Ive 1ccd by now anyway)

Her post battle sprite is so cute with the bandages and all that...just great

With games that need to fill in as much characterization as quickly as possible like these I think Yuugi just stands out

A sign on top of Mt Ooe, where I went last year in Yuugi's honor, that shows nearby mountains that you can see from the vantage point. You can apparently see the top of every mountain in Kyoto from there.
