I feel like calling the left a western dragon is kind of off, however. Western dragons tend to be more like what's called a wyvern. That kind of dragon pictured is more of a D&D/RPG dragon.

Mostly yes I think. With Ryu it's usually just one every.... a lot. All I can remember for evil Ryuu would be Orochi(might be more of a snake) and Kuzuryu (nine headed dragon).

The Norse had Fafnir with the gold hoarding (but poison breath iirc), in old Greek stuff you have also snakes/drakon that are either guardians of treasure or evil stuff to be slain by a hero or god. There's also Tiamat even if she's more water related(like a lot of mythical dragons I guess). Egypt also had Apep as le bad dark snake. So the evil snake/dragon idea seems to be there even before Christian influence.
