Join in for total chaos, ultra competitive autism, and the ultimate racing fun to be crowned Champion of the jpsies.

Qualis will begin at 8:30 pm EST sharp, so please plan accordingly if you're participating.

Since the lobby can only hold 7 racists, using a randomizer we'll divide every racer into 2 groups, A and B.

Two lobbies will be created, in which racers drawn to their respective group must go to.

Each group will race 5 ROUNDS in the same 5 tracks, which will be chose by a randomizer and posted here once every group is set.
After each race, we'll log the TIMING of each racer and, using AI or your brain if you're big brained, we'll add them up until the 5 races have been finished.

The 7 best overall times will qualify for the Tournament.

Keep in mind that I'm gonna post the times for whatever group I'm drawn in, so I'd appreciate if an anon in the other group kept track of their group.

Once the qualis are done, the top 7 racists will earn their ticket to compete in the GLORIOUS /jp/ SKYDRIFT TOURNAMENT.

The tournament consists of 12 ROUNDS, chosen at random and posted here shortly before we start.

After each race, racists will earn the following points which will be added to the leaderboard:

1st place – 10 points
2nd place – 8 points
3rd place – 6 points
4th place – 4 points
5th place – 3 points
6th place – 2 points
7th place – 1 point

Please allow 2 to 3 minutes between each race so that I can post the updated leaderboard to the thread.

At the end of the 12th round, whoever has the most points WINS THE FUCKING CHIP AND BECOMES KING OF DA JPSIES.

After the 6th race, we'll have a 15 minute half-time break for piss and snacks.

Both for the qualis as well as the toruney proper, we will only use the initial same 2 characters throughout.
If there's any change the player will still be allowed to keep racing, but will be disqualified from the championship.

now about the item ban idea: i think it neuters a big part of the game, feels nice not having to worry about the incoming nuke, but you wont reach the player on 1st place unless he commits a mistake, besides that, a lot of characters depend on their spell cards, a few more than others, adding to that, i think new players would feel hopeless because they dont fully understand the mechanics and wouldnt even be able to get a cheacky win against a more experienced player.
in conclusion: seems like a good idea, but ultimately think it harms the game, i personally wouldnt support it

I think some randomization could fix that. Append the stoic or no spells rule to random maps in the lineup. So you might have normal Human Village followed by no spell Forest of Magic. six or seven normal of the twelve with the rest having one of those rules.

my issue with items is that they create crab in a bucket mentality in the middle and back of the pack: everyone back there is constantly trying to draw items that will help them get ahead, but when they get triple mushrooms or amulets (offensive items make up at least half of the item pool in most positions), what do they do? they throw them at the guy next to them, because not doing so is a waste and he might hit you first if you don't. it's like a prisoner's dilemma, and it's a race to the bottom until hopefully some last word changes up the race.

meanwhile, the people in the lead are getting less meter per boost ring, but they are more likely to spend that meter on switchboosting because they don't necessarily have to catch up by drawing more items. the race to the bottom is far less pronounced here (though it's not entirely gone so long as at least some of them are willing to try drawing for items)

I'd like to at least try a few itemless races on a casual friday meeting to see how it plays out

I think the results are heavily skewed by the overall skill level of each lobby. if only a couple players in one lobby are really skilled and the other is jam-packed with fierce racers, then the people getting disqualified because of the results in the second lobby may not necessarily be worse than the ones in the first.
scoring by time can help alleviate that, since better racers will finish faster even in more difficult lobbies, but it also means that map-wide LWs will have a damping effect on the entire lobby's results compared to the other lobby, so it's not perfect.

so instead of choosing one scoring method or the other, probably I would advocate for making sure that each lobby has about the same number of skilled racers and newbies in them (either by hand or by hoping that randomizing them will make them "good enough"), as that will probably lead to fairer results overall.

I'm one of them. As soon as I get second or first I panic draw for a barrier or boost because it is certain I am going to get destroyed by some bullshit. Switch boosting is just a waste of meter if the result of getting knocked down to 5th or more is the same as at least I'd have an item to try and get back in.
