Finally got the 91/38 I mentioned in the last thread from the Gunbroker auction. It was $800 after taxes, shipping, and fees. Wish the stock was a little more orange like I've seen other 91/38s but I love it. 1905 Izhevsk, matching numbers and electropenciled bolt serial.

>Did Finns tend to scrub marks from their captured or purchased Nuggets?
Not generally, no. The only instances I can think of is m/39s that had the Czar's crest milled out of the receiver ring, leaving a dimple. The other are the re-lined barrels that were scrubbed of all markings and then re-marked with Finnish markings.

Gun arrived today and it looks as described. Came with the bayonet and sling
Although right as I got home Legacy Collectibles listed an even better looking and better condition AG-42 for $300 cheaper...

As for the gun itself the front barrel band spring doesn't seem to work and is super loose so I'm probably gonna order a part off of Centaury arms or cannibalize the spring off of my M96 while I wait for the spare to arrive then swap them back. Sadly wasn't able to get the muzzle off so I couldn't put the BFA on but then again I only had a bullet to push the button instead of the intended tool for it.

Only things I'm worried about are the cracks in the wood but I was shooting surplus 8mm out of a German mauser with a crack at the tang and it did just fine so I should be good

Probably nothing genuine milsurp sir. Sorry. Likely too expensive for a first timer. But Kentucky Rifles were used in the revolution and into the civil war. Those are still great rifles. They make them in cap too but flintlock is so much more fun. AND you arenโ€™t at the mercy of the most instantly unavailable shooting supplies: percussion caps. It has taken me 4-5 years to see them come back on the shelves after the ammopocalypse of 2020.

It still wont ever come close to the guy who bought one at Tusla last month for $875

Oh Iโ€™ve shot mine about 100 rounds and and itโ€™s about time to have to change it for the first time; probably another 20-50 rounds Iโ€™ll start to get misfires. You can get unlucky and have the flint break prematurely however.
100 rounds out a black powder rifle is like 3-5 range trips keep in mind.

I havenโ€™t actually done the math on 4F and flints vs a tin of caps. But Gas likely costs more considering you have to find an outdoor range, unless your a porchshooting Chad of course.

Wasnโ€™t about to ask why because, even for a basic 1941 VKT, thatโ€™s several hundred under normal here. Iโ€™ve seen shops try to sell wartime 91/30s for $500-600 since covid. That shop had a rather unremarkable Swede m96 and Yugoslav sks for $600 and a Brazilian Mauser for $700 as well.

>K98 CE43 all matching down to the wood, no import, with an original "SC" marked sling, and a date matched bayonet/scabbard
For all the above market prices in that listing, this one is actually about fair market price assuming he's telling the truth and the rifle is truly original and matching as well as in very good to excellent condition. Matching original K98k bayonets are $200+ these days and matching rifles themselves average around $2000 for the most common years and only go up with condition and rare years/makers. Of course, if you aren't sure how to vet an original from a faked example and buy one without checking first, you're just asking to be ripped off.

Little update on this part right here
Unfortunately a new part isn't gonna fix this since the rifle received damage during bayonet training and the repair done by the swedes resulted in the spring not being able to be as wedged into the gun as it should be.
Still a nice piece though and me and my gunsmith bent the spring back into shape so it'll fit tighter and better but I'd need to put a piece of wood in there to make it like it should be

They used to be very popular here in Belgium, since everyone knew them from the westerns and up until 2006 it was classified as a hunting cartridge and you didn't need a special license for levers chambered in it. More recently no one's using it or they're even trying to sell their .30-30's because the ammo has become incredibly expensive (โ‚ฌ1,27/round is the cheapest I could find) and most people have switched to .308 which is cheaper and more powerful. I think it's a neat and historically significant cartridge and the only reason I don't have one (yet) is because the ammo and the guns are so expensive :/

the k43 looks cool but they eventually break if you plan on shooting it. the main problem with them, other than being overgassed, is the sheet metal receiver cover that eventually breaks and that theres no meat at the back of the receiver because they had to put that dumbass safety switch there so it just bends out after a while
the fn49 is a much better semi auto 8mm mauser gun if you really need something

Maybe itโ€™s a good thing that shit was never reliable for me. I bought 450 rounds from Centerfire years ago because it was cheap at the time. I only ever tried about 15-20 rounds because every single one was a dud or a hangfire. So I recently pulled all the bullets, and reloaded the powder and bullets into brass cases.

For that pourpose then, lets say my budget overall is 1.2k What are some good flintlocks/caps both original and repro to look into.

Itโ€™s the only Flintlock Iโ€™ve fired so I have no way to cross check my apparently fortunate experience but Iโ€™m telling the truth as far as I can remember. Iโ€™ve had the rifle for years and never changed the flint i bought it with. 100 is my round count to the best of my memory. Iโ€™ve done 2 25-round competions and several range trips shooting well more than 10 rounds. It must be a good 100 because my box of .490 round balls is gone, plus however many of my own soft casts Iโ€™ve thrown.

It has a small (1/2โ€ x 5/8โ€) flint and has a gentle strike I guess. I take care to check and adjust it every shot so it strikes the frizzen squarely and evenly every round and I have to use a full pan of 4F or I get a misfire.
I thought i remembered it being in worse shape actually.

>if you want to shoot modern ammo with them.
You'll need a shooters kit if you want to shoot ANY ammo with them
I don't own one but from what I've seen other anons talking about regardless of what you do to it, when you shoot it its not a matter of "will it break?" its a matter of "WHEN will it break" since basically all of them have cracks on the receiver due to being WAAAAAAY over gassed.
If I had the money and wanted to get one I'd probably do it but exercise some caution and get ammo that will do the minimum amount of damage to it (which is basically only modern ammo or hand loads light enough to still make the gun work) and know that even then it will eventually break after a certian amount of rounds

TLDR those things can handle about a week of serious wartime use before they destroy themselves so make that week last your entire life and you'll be fine

Well we destroyed about 100 million+ rounds when we left Afghanistan and since itโ€™s our countryโ€™s service round and the caliber used by the most common rifle the demand for it is fucking crazy so you can reasonably rack the price up on it and people will still buy it
As for 8mm itโ€™s kind of niche and the supply is so great you can find 8mm every now and then for sub 80ยข easily if itโ€™s bulk and sub 60ยข if itโ€™s bulk, AND corrosive or you could be lucky like I was and get 300 rounds of German k bullets that ignore level 3 armor plates for $55 lmao

And speaking of that I wish I bought the other ammo can that guy was selling but hey atleast I got one can of it (hope I see that guy and the one who was selling 760 rounds of Romanian for $200 and ~900 yugo for $300 sometime again)

garands beat em selves to death too if fed anything but m2 ball on the long term. and they have the by far most retarded loading system of all early semis.

the true advance of semiautos are the follow up shots. in that regard g43, svt, garand suck the same way because the recoil throws one off target and getting back on target saves just 1-2 sec. per shot compared to cycling a bolt action, at worse accuracy.

stg44, m1 carbine, sks are the true game changers, middle round, easier to control, faster follow up shots.

the only big boy round rifle that doesnt suck is the FAL. because its by original intent a light machine gun and should be used like one.

we had a time around 2015 in the german
speaking lands when .223, .308 or 12/70 and 9mm had insane prices or were sold out everywhere. because the commie cunt Merkel opened the flood gates of shitskin migration from the arm pits of the world into Europe. and the silent majority did the right thing, stacking up.

the next strike against the wallets of european shooters was the russian clown show to rebuild the soviet union. now everything but 7x64 durrkillah or 9,3 hogdeath was really sold out for quite a while, not just more expensive.
now we are at +/- 250 euros for 1000 9mm which could be had for 130 like 5 years ago and below 100 before niggermerkel.

luckily im a paranoid surplus collector, and everytime i ran into some 8x50 lebel or 7,x55 swiss etc, i bought it. so i have quite an ammo stash now. ppu & co. are producing and the market has everything again, but recent prices for all calibers... holy mother. just bought 2x50 shots magtech .45 acp fmj. for 52 euros. and that was the cheapest brand.

If the gun shops around this area were any kind of not shit and there were any hope of finding decent things without having to deal with awful people and awful prices...
You don't know what you have until it's gone. I didn't know how good I had it until I moved to this godforsaken hellhole. I used to think all the stories in the "gunstore stories" threads were bullshit or butthurt anons exaggerating. Now? I believe every single one of them. Arrogant fucking assclowns that couldn't care less about their customers with no real selection and price gouging on ammo. And they have the temerity to bitch that all I'm giving them is a transfer fee instead of a sale. Bitch. Give me a price that isn't 42 gallons of gas or a couple weeks of groceries more expensive than what I just got the gun for and you can have the sale. "Well we just can't beat them, you should support local." I like to support local. But not at an additional 15% total cost, and not a miserable asshole like you. Pay attention when I walk into your store. Show a little engagment. Try putting prices on used guns that don't make me laugh.

I love the M1 but the design is janky as fuck, I'm surprised it works as well as it does. Not excessively complicated or weird, but certainly needlessly. Having the magazine be powered by the mainspring is certainly one of the design choices of all time.
Actually, I think it's strange that the US didn't come up and adopt with a more "conventional" autoloading rifle design, in the same vein as the SVT-40 or G43. That format just seems like a more natural conclusion if you're building a semi-auto from the ground up, especially if you've got bolt action/other manual action design in mind as a base.

US arms trials, innovation and acquisition from 1880s to 1940s was anywhere between pants on head retarded and groundbreakingly ahead of its time.
Its why you had people in charge demanding that rifles should have magazine cutoffs well into when they had become irrelevant. People sperging out about licensing and lawsuits.
By the time the M1 was up for debate everyone was pretty done with being ridiculously thorough, saw something that was marginally better than the Pederson and was like, "that, lets do that".
No one had it in them anymore to drag their feet on stupid points. And the niggers that did that were dead, mainly the ante-bellum late 1890s command structure. Im generalizing a bit and the Brits did a fair bit of this too. But you get the idea

I found what seems to be a fake winchester 94 spruce gun at a gun shop being sold for a premium because of the markings. I wanted to buy it so i researched them and found that the marking on the one for sale isnt quite right. The "U.S." stamp next to the flaming bomb is not supposed to have the period after each letter. More importantly, the serial number is way off for it to be correct. That means it is likely a fake. To my knowledge the "spruce gun" is the only us marked winchester 94 out there.
It kind of sucks but i dont want to buy something like that at a premium price if its a fake

Literally the same rifle they adopted the year before, but in smokeless powder. The entire mechanism was already obsolete because rifles feeding from packet loading and detachable magazines were already a thing. If not for Boulanger sperging out over smokeless powder France would probably have adopted something like the Remington-Lee.

Kind of a shit picture, but can anyone tell if this is just old lead? I've got a Luger that has this build up at the muzzle when I shoot it, and I have to sort of peel it off with a small punch. It only builds up on one side of the muzzle, and its on the same side that the barrel appears to have significantly weaker rifling than the other side. The bore looks like absolute ass but still shoots almost as well as any of my other pistols do.

Shit anon for a second I thought we were going after the same rifle, but we werenโ€™t. I was watching an auction that ended Sunday. I ended up with some 6.5, 7mm, and .308 bullets and a Garand stock, but thatโ€™s it. I was also trying to get an Argentine 1909 Engineers Carbine as there were 2 at this auction, but they went higher than I wanted to pay.

The Chilean 1895 I was after ended at $345, and I assumed with everything else tacked on it was gonna run $500-$550, so I let it go.

If I was closer to the auction I probably would have bid higher since I wouldnโ€™t have to deal with shipping, but it was on the other side of the state so that wasnโ€™t practical. Oh well.

Not that I have experience with such a thing but are you sure the shitty rifling and lead shards aren't connected? By thag I mean I wonder how leaded to fuck that bore is and if your bullets are slowly flattening and widening that patch of lead (like rolling dough or clay into a sheet) causing more lead to show up at the muzzle as that patch thins and spreads. Absolutely pulling this out of my ass from nothing more than my """experience""" reading /k/ about leading in bores and a little bit of troubleshooting I've done in the past but it seems pretty reasonable.

I think there's a good possibility they are, at least on the side the lead is building up at the muzzle. Time will tell as I shoot it more, but I wouldn't be surprised if more rifling starts to show where it currently looks like it's worn out because of my FMJ ammo thinning and pushing the lead out like you said.

I'm about 2 1/2ish hours away from Raleigh.
Ain't no way I'm getting up at the ass crack of dawn, paying for parking, paying an admission fee, and driving for about a total of 5 hour out of the day without a guarentee that I'm coming away with something good. Last time I put that much effort into a day it was to go to a Ren Faire with friends; and that was a guarenteed good time, good food, fantastic eye candy, fun shows.

Not that anon, but why?
As I understand it, converting from 7mm Mauser to 7.62 Nato involves reaming out the chamber, soldering in a sleeve, then reaming the sleeve to accept Nato rounds. There is a 0.11 mm difference in base diameter between the two rounds, the Nato round being smaller. The .055mm thicker walls of the chamber do seem irrelivant for pressure purposes. That said, the difference in pressure between 7mm Mauser and 7.62 NATO is only about 6.4%. NATO spec is 415 MPa, while 7mm Mauser C.I.P. is 390 MPa. Hot, but I don't think enough to warrant concern. As always, so long as you're not throwing Bubba's pissing hot hand loads in there, you should be fine.

Iโ€™d be weary of commercial conversions of Sudaca mausers into thuddy ott six by professional bubbas back in the 50s.

Although Spaniards are by far the worst gunsmiths in Yurop, Iโ€™d think theyโ€™d have taken proper actions to any repeated loss of their lil Falangist fingers in Jackboot camp if nato was too spicy for 1916s

That is not how the Spanish conversions were done. The M1916s had the barrels shortened from the chamber end and then a fresh 7.62NATO chamber cut into the now short-chambered barrel. There is no seam.

Description said it was numbers matching too which Im darn pretty sure isnโ€™t very common. So another $60 on top isnโ€™t balkable to me unfortunately.

Mauserbros, I am resurrecting an 1895 Chilean carbine barrelled action as my first Mauser and I am wondering what options I have for rear sights.

Happy to modify stuff and i dont even have a stock yet, so would any small ring work? Or even large ring as long as it doesnt need a lathe, the #1 tool i should have but dont.

Ideally the sights should look cool and be good, I've already ruled out matching because they are out of my budget and this is a barrelled action with holes drilled through the crest.

Is it possible for finnish M39's to be antiques and not require an FFL?
I found one on Gun broker and the receiver was made in 1898 according to the seller and that its not required to be shipped to an FFL but I was talking about it with a gun at my LGS and he said that it technically doesn't meet the criteria to not need an FFL. I'm not sure myself but I'm tempted to get it since I can just have it shipped straight to my house and wouldn't need to wait 2 weeks for my background checks to clear like I have been lately

The whole pre-98 antique stuff can get fucky, mostly because of the state you are in. Most cuck states will not recognize no FFL pre-98s. Check your state laws on what you FFL claims.

Pre-98 has gone thru several interpretations and many folks have their own take and both state and fed dont help with it.
There are 2 schools of thought:
Pre-98 no ffl means, it was made before 1898 therefore you do not need to undergo any background checks or ffl transfers.
The other is Pre-98 means pre CENTERFIRE cartridge/breechloaders. Mainly muzzleloading muskets, cap revolvers and such require no background check and FFL

Its dumb, and lots of FFLs will use either interpretation. Its why sometimes youll see things like Winchester 1895s being listed as "musket" despite it not being anything of the sort.

Well the biggest rider is that a pre99 gun has to not have been altered. And a center fire weapon that fires an โ€œobsoleteโ€ cartridge which is not commonly sold anymore.

Itโ€™s why I have such a pain trying to buy an updated gew88 which like many rebarrels have a post 98 date stamp.

Yes. If the receiver was manufactured prior to January 1st, 1899 it is legally an antique.

Then the person you spoke to is wrong. A legal antique can be shipped to your door without issue.

As a former NJfag, where not even C&R FFLs are valid, I can vouch for this.
Shit, federal law says I can buy a rifle or shotgun anywhere in the lower 48 and drive home with it so long as it is legal in the state I live in, and yet I watched a shop owner here in Virginia tell someone they couldn't sell him any rifle without shipping it, because he was from Florida.

Oklahoma Full Auto Shoot And Trade Show
Basically itโ€™s a gun show in Oklahoma (itโ€™s near Indigo Sky Casino which Iโ€™m mentioning cause itโ€™s really in the middle of nowhere where) with a HEAVY emphasis on the full auto shoot part where a bunch of guys let you shoot their guns for kind of high prices but hey how often can you shoot a colt monitor or MG-42 thatโ€™s full auto
Also like half the time theyโ€™ll just give you a free mag or 2 to shoot if your chill and the organizers arenโ€™t looking (since they have a minimum amount they are required to charge you)

Canโ€™t bring your own gun day of the show (in fact they have a guy with a full auto UMP standing as security at the front gate) but you can buy a section on the firing line if you email the organizers. The right side of the firing line is very expensive, one guy ALL the way to the right had about 3 or 4 overhead gazeboโ€™s and said it cost him like $1500-$2000 just for his spot but some dentists did spend $3,000 to shoot ~100 rounds each out of everything (including a PKM and m240/9 (canโ€™t remember which version it was))
If I had to guess If you buy a section on the left half where most of the private guys congregate your looking at maybe like $250-500 for a single gazebo
Also also while the gun show doesnโ€™t have many tables to buy from itโ€™s almost all milsurps with a good variety to pick from but Iโ€™ve never bought anything from there (gazebo or gun) so take what I said with some salt

I've been having fun comparing the 1916 Spanish to the 1895 Chilean it really is funny how similar they are.

1916 Spanish Positives:
>Gas relief hole
>Stronger rear sight design
>Hinged floorplate
>Cutout for stripper clips
>Follower lock bolt open open on empty (can be positive or a negative)

>1895 Chilean positives
>Rear bolt handle safety lug
>Better sight picture
>Better sling loops
>More modern rounded bottom on bolt
>Better trigger and smoother bolt
>Nicer wood and finish
>Overall nicer quality

There are a couple of other really small differences, I like both but definitely prefer the Chilean.

It is not matching. The stock, barrel, and reciever match, but the bolt is from an earlier rifle. That said, they're less than 1000 apart.
The action is smooth, so very very smooth.
I'm going to post some pictures of things I find interesting about it. Also a question about pic related : how do I rewhite the crest? I got a little over zealous going after the cosmoline and the degreaser took the whiting out of part of the crest.

It looks like the trigger originally had a straw finish, which I find odd on a military gun. Straw finishes are just aesthetic yeah? and provide no real benefit other than looks? I could be wrong about the original finish of course, and wrong about the no benefit part. I suppose it's possible the trigger was changed out at some point, but I very much doubt it. After taking it apart I feel pretty confident it's been sitting in it's stock undisturbed ever since it was put there. Everything was perfectly fit metal to wood in the stock, to an honestly impressive degree.

I spent a couple hours taking her almost entirely apart. Even took the bolt apart, and I'm glad I did as it was FULL of cosmoline. It looked like somebody had actually just packed it in there with a grease gun or something. Some Mean Green and elbow grease cleaned it out. I used some heavyish lucas oil to coat all the parts for lubrication and protection then put it back together. Cleaned the bore. The rifling is tired, but still distinct, though the grooves are pitted. I gave the stock and hand guard a light coat of linseed oil; the wood felt dry. It sucked most of it right up and I wiped away what little oil stayed on the surface. I've got a few boxes of S&B 173 grain that claims to clock in at 2379 fps. AFAIK that's pretty damn close to the original military loading for the rifle. I'm not expecting a lot given the bore, but I'm hoping for better than minute of man. Sometime soon (next few days I hope) I'll find out at the range.

Brownells lacquer-stik, they're about $5 on their website before shipping. The tip usually dries out after a while, so before every use you'll have to shave the dry layer off. Then you just rub it with slight pressure over the crest, and then take a tissue to wipe away the excess around it. Your crest is still really well defined unlike my Chinese Mauser, so you shouldn't have to worry about unintentionally wiping out the lacquer that got in it.

ok Swiss chads. I saw a deal I couldn't ignore and now have a K31 en-route. I never had a swiss gun before so I need a quick rundown on ammo, clips/magazines and bayonet/other accessories.

It seems that the GP11 ammo is harder to come buy these days. Are any of the alternatives decent?
Cardboard clips? From what I have seen posted, hey hold up well but originals are expensive. Any repros good? I heard GP11 bricks come with some clips, is this true?
Anything to look out for when buying a bayonet?

> I heard GP11 bricks come with some clips, is this true?
None of my 1970s-โ€˜80s cases had them. Got all mine secondhand at an auction. Donโ€™t spend much money on them; you only want a couple. GP11 is as good or better than any commercial 7.5x55mm you can get in the US.

Cant handload better than GP11 but PPU and S&B have been good to me in my K31 although I had 2 rounds of S&B 6.5x55 that were either over or under loaded (not sure) that locked up my bolt and covered the entire bolt face and extractor in carbon (came out of the same box of ammo)
Cardboard clips are obviously gonna be original but they are usually the price of 2-4 repro clips, The repro's I have are 3d printed ones by a guy name saffron3dsolutions and they are extremely fucking tight to the point it hurts my thumb to use them (also I took them out in 80 degree weather and set them down on my shooting mat and they got limp from the heat so I had to put them back in my car to cool off, thankfully they didn't deform). The polymer ones I see on youtube shorts seem to work a lot better
Never seen the bricks come with chargers personally.
I don't really know anything about bayonets just make sure it fits on your gun

at a 300m zero the gun is gonna shoot high so you'll need to do a 6 o' clock hold (I myself haven't gotten the hang of this) but I found with a 200m zero I can still easily hit torso targets at 300m aiming at the upper half/neck area

Thank you for the advice.
My concern is that although the most superior option, GP11 seems to be $3/rd from some of the places that I saw that actually had it in stock so I'm not really thrilled to buy that over S&B or PPU

Very unfortunate that both 7.5 and 6.5 surplus is basically non existent for a good price
Also does anyone know of a website that I can buy individual cartridges for a good price and not get ass raped with shipping (trying to cartridge collect 6.5) I cant really afford to spend $15 per bullet on shipping with gun broker

Just dig around loose ammo bins at gun shows. Saves you the shipping, will be way cheaper and the fun of the search

Atlanticโ€™s are a bit banged around but all m937s coming in now seem properly mothballed, even under the wood and in the bore. That combo is honestly a deal. Donโ€™t know anywhere else you can get an intact, good k98 for less than a grand

I bought an all matching M937A last year along with the Greek ammo as part of a bundle. The rifle was in overall nice, used condition. The bore had lost some of the sharpness to the lands but the rifling was still strong and free of pitting and the only pitting I found on the rifle was under the handguard where some moisture got trapped. But the Atlantic mausers are solid rifles in my experience.

Do you guys have any reloading recommendations for poorfags?
I really want to duplicate M/41 loads for my Swedish sniper but canโ€™t really drop $1000 on gear
I already have brass (granted itโ€™s mixed in with brass from another 6.5 Swedish gun I have)
I think I might be willing to spend $200 on a charge master though since I donโ€™t trust myself to load the powder
Also I can get berdan primed brass by pulling the wooden bullets out of training rounds I buy for .20ยข but 99% of the cases have rust spots on them so idk if they can handle a full power round. Not sure whatโ€™d Iโ€™d do with the powder though

i've never seen a spanish 1893 rifle / carbine from the civil war era which wasnt heavily used / worn.
and im in europe so its not a florida warehouse rust.

my guess is, since the spanish civil war was a typical civil war, infantry, armed civilians and the international brigades were marching and shooting around a lot. but the usual army infrastructure for maintenance and armorers was almost not there, and more important the soldiers were depending on their unit/origin more or less neglecting the guns. so they spent years in the open with the partly vigilante infantry who gave a shit and thats why they look so beaten.

the 98 models from the franco era which didnt see a war aren that fucked up, usually.

We are also getting many rifles that had been conscript drill rifles for a decade or two by the time they're being imported to the US circa 1960. My refurbished Spanish M93 was refurb-serials-matching and the inletting on its stock was terrible and resulted in the wrist splitting longitudinally, which was repaired with a useless repair that did not address the issue at all.
