There is a very high probability it was a captured HT-16 which is hilarious.

>HT-16
Just figured out it's
1) a MANPAD
2) north korean
3) the LIGMA BALL contraption

t.ourist trying to at least put in a marginal contribution that might be wrong and in need of correction

The Ligma is a nitrogen canister that chills the IR seeker right before it fires. It keeps it from targeting the sun.

So is there a chance this is just some jingoistic india-shill?
I honestly think it's possible it's just a dude that would enjoy seeing chink jets get shot down.
That is concluding from myself about others here though.

The javelin just has a fat heatsink with vapor phase heatpipes to avoid using Nitrogen, right?
Thanks for teaching me this, it's unlikely I'll forget lmao.

Anyway, ain't now way they could smuggle a JF-17. Unlike the Donbabwean they get little to no support from their puppet master. So it's either a JL-9 or a F-7M.

When you see MANPADS mounted on vehicles you can tell if they are meant for someone to jump out and use it manually or if they are meant to be fired onboard by looking for hoses going where those canisters are. The nitrogen canisters are one use and have to be replaced every time it is used.

Having hoses that feed them from a onboard system lets you activate the seeker heads whenever you want which is far more useful.

Nork vehicles are a great example, most are just MANPAD storage racks but the latest tanks have hose fed onboard nitrogen.

I'm assuming the onboard system is basically just a bigger tank pressure regulators and liquid transport mechanisms?

Seems reasonable.
Some grifting Indian posting hopium for shares, subs and eventually, views on YouTube.

I too was distraught that Moscow MoD buildings remained fenestrated.

Correct. Also typically it is tied into the vehicles sensors some how. Many modern systems are built around being modular so for instance you can use the same display for a AA missile, remote weapon station or ATGM. Pic related, it is hard to see but the nitrogen canisters have been replaced with injection cylinders and there is a feed line going into them.

There is an advantage to the 'all in one basket' approach since in theory you can tie all the sensors into each other, so pic related should be able to use the sensors from the various systems together. In this case the thermal sight above the AA launcher that replaces the one on the handheld launcher should be useable by the gunner and commander as well as the one for the ATGMs.

Obviously they MUST be tied together otherwise there would be no room to fit 4-5 sensor displays and targeting systems inside the turret not to mention being really expensive both in money and power consumption.

Of course you can go a step further:

See this bad boy? It does all that with a manually aimed electro optical sensor (the guy behind the tiny window AND a nifty little downsized tilt drum radar.

So what you posted, the tank and pic related all use identical missiles but have increasing orders of cooling equipment and sensory imput.

The missile itself doesn't really matter as long as it works, how you get it to the target is what matters. Thus concludes our impromptu lesson in small IR guided missiles 101, HT-16 version.

Addendum! Found a better image for that Songuns missile assembly:

So you can see where the nitrogen cartridges have been replaced by injection cylinders. Why is the hose under it exposed and outside the housing like that? It freezes! Don't want ice inside do you?

The injection cylinders PROBABLY are electrically operated solenoids that open to let in a burst of nitrogen linked to a temperature sensor; when the IR seeker heads cool off too much and start looking at the forbidden target aka the sun they let in another burst. The system PROBABLY alternates cooling each missile in turn to prevent too much stress during training and extended operations on the system, IR seeker heads are finicky bits of tech.

doesnt cooling just make sensor more sensitive to see the target and doesnt do much against sun(sun also contrasts more)? for that you would rather target different wavelengths of IR
Anonymous No.63812740 [Report]
>>63812639
Honestly i don't know the details of it but with older basic IR systems the part where the seeker is cooled is very important. It prevents the missile from going at the sun or anything else but what you are aiming at, results may vary. If i understand it properly it narrows the seekers focus so in combination with analog/digital discrimination it ignores flares/fires/the sun and hopefully hits the target you aimed at. Advanced versions limit this to a cone of fire so anything outside of the thing you are aiming at is ignored.

This is not a area where i have detailed expertise or practical knowledge of, only things i have read. I may be completely wrong so don't trust me on any of this, look into it yourself.
