Realistically how do you put up a strong resistance against an alien invasion?
>Drones
They'll have figured out powerful electronic countermeasures.
>Nukes
Realistically their missile defenses will be top-tier, best case scenario *maybe* you can use nuclear artillery?
>Small arms
Fairly unlikely it'll pierce their body armor.

Harness our innate mammalian survival tactics that got us this far and let us survive previous mass extinction events. Breed like rats, live underground in tunnels and rubble, guerilla warfare until the aliens get pissed and fuck off when they realize it's really not worth it to take our space rock. If they get really bitter they might just atomize the planet as a final fuck you but can't say we didn't try.

If aliens are invading our planet they don't want to kill us; they're attempting to conquer us purely for ideological or political reasoning. Like the other anon said, gorilla warfare is the key. I also sincerely doubt they'll have body armor that's really all that much better than what we have now in terms of protection.

Maybe not protection, but coverage definitely. Ceramic plate is already really good at stopping bullets, it's just heavy as fuck, but a species with power armor doesn't have that problem.

Well anon we already have like 4 billion working age people, and another 4 billion within the next decade or two. Assuming we can keep up a reasonable breeding pace and the aliens aren't the Combine with sterilization fields we can probably metaphorically fuck them to death or into a stalemate depending on their population/reproduction/dedication to the cause. At least the first few decades for them are going to be very rough, then we just figure out a way to safely raise the next generation of child soldiers and keep at it.

It depends on so many factors your question is basically pointless.
For shits and giggles though I like the idea that they've progressed to plasma/laser/whatever and their armor is designed against that, so kinetic projectiles are still fairly effective. Like how a knife can go through kevlar.

What are the aliums? If they are like ur pic, (furry lol) then we could just lay down and give up, become pets.

For an alien threat that actually wants you DEAD, it depends, in a book im reading (Posleen War) the alien invaders are retarded monsters who use napoleonic era tactics along with railguns and plasma weapons. In the book our traditional combined arms warfare doesn't work due to complete enemy air superiority (anything flying above the horizon gets shot down), so hit and run tactics are combined with area denial (blowing bridges, minefields) and artillery fire after fixing the enemy in a position.

Without orbital weapons, the aliens would be able to land troops anywhere, anytime, with near impunity until they reach the ground. their landers would be the most important targets, but which are peppered with CIWS and long range direct fire weapons. The only way to 'win' without significant (mass-extinction) amounts of casualties would be to prevent them from coming over here in the first place, either that or kill the entire fleet (if they aren't using teleporters/ wormholes).

Conventional weapons wouldn't work, but brute forcing it by using high calibre weapons or innovating with magnetic acceleration could be the solution. Either that or finding some sort of chemical weapon, but if they cant breathe our air it would be trivial for them to deal with (they likely have their own air supply).

Interdiction would be the best bet for preventing mass human casualties, so just get them while they haven't got close enough to do any real damage. However, without already knowing the location of the enemy fleet, or at least having some forewarning, any fleet of ships would be unable to intercept. Especially if they teleport their ships here. If we cant stop them from teleporting directly into the solar system, we would be fighting a battle already lost. The only way to win would be with your enemy giving up (Vietnamese victory in 1975).

I've made this post before, but the only solution I see is turning the entire planet, it's populace and biosphere into a massive hostage situation. Plant every nuke we have across the surface of the planet, beneath cities, nature preserves, the jungles and forests and natural wonders, everywhere. Then make it very clear that if the ayys try anything funny the little blue planet gets it.

Does this rely on the ayys wanting Earth intact? Sure, but if they don't care we're totally fucked anyways.

Pre-positioned orbital batteries may be the best bet, as they are at least "possible" with tech available today, albeit with some caveats such as creating SSTO spacecraft or further perfecting reusable tech. We may need something that is purely hypothetical, a space elevator, to truly take on an alien threat within a ~100 year warning window. Without warning, defending Earth with anything approaching 'conventional' (*nukes included*) would be practically impossible.

Think gaylo 2's Cairo station, but with less 'comfortable' living space so it would be more like a pencil than a big sword (crew would inhabit spaces similar to ISS), realistically most/all of the systems directly firing the gun would, could, and should be automated.

We would very likely lose, specially with alien overmatch (they could just glass us from orbit, or terraform the planet to be uninhabitable for us, but pleasant for them), especially if we lack any orbital defensive fleet (not just orbital batteries).

Not really

A RKV could be quite small and difficult to spot and still be able to deliver an enormous amount of energy, or it could be so massive our nukes just don't matter at all to stop it.

Do what we do best: fuck shit up.

Guerilla warfare, obvs. Fight dirty. Find what they want, and make them pay dearly for it, deny it as long as possible.

Tbh, if their 'habitable atmosphere' is utterly unlike ours, that's a massive handicap for them- as they must carry portable 'air' (or whatever their atmosphere is). That forces them to wear something pressurized and operate from dropship or from F.O.B. both are massive targets.

Long terms of zero gravity make muscles weak, based on earth life; provided a rough comparison, it stands to reason that the aay's will have entire generations born and raised in low or no gravity, meaning a dirt-side invasion would be hell with equipment or powered exos, and double hell without.

And any alien tech will be reverse engineered, replicated, and used against them. Overall, human chances for survival are slim to none, but we can hope that the new overlords take note of our 'fuck you' spirit and instead of wiping us out, use us as a pre-invasion staging force to soften up future enemies; drop us ahead of time- maybe a few centuries, because time is relative with interstellar travel- and we would do most of the work for them. Humans will become the space niggers, lowering property values and just being generally despised and avoided because it's not worth it and you cant kill them fast enough.

Interesting potential would be us being so primitive their weapons and armor do not actually account for us anymore. For example, it's entirely possible their armor will be AMAZING at stopping energy weapons but will be remarkably fragile to even pistol hollow points because nobody in the wider galaxy has used traditional projectiles for a thousand years. We could legitimately be so "primitive" that our weapons and equipment basically qualify as lostech. We could also just simply be on "the road not taken" in several ways. What happens if for most races ye ole fire lance is the last firearm/projectile weapon they had? What happens if FTL is secretly easy and most species stumble across it hundreds of years earlier meaning THEY are the primitive ones militarily while we're only backwards savages in not having FTL? There's so many ways we could have secretly massive advantages it's ridiculous. Just assuming they'd automatically crush us no matter what is silly when you really sit down and think about all those variables. Yes it's entirely possible it'd be like trying to fight gods, but it's certainly not guaranteed.

This with a side of if FTL is legitimately impossible then the invasion force would by necessity be a generation ship. Combine that with a side of different focuses technologically and societal/technological degradation from being stuck on a ship with extremely limited and controlled supplies resulting in lostech, almost their entire focus would be on using that limited man power and material to just keep the ship survivable. I think the most likely alien invasion situation would involve a generation ship with very limited resources stuck between the rock and hard place of having no where else to go at this point other than earth but with military technology that isn't nearly as advanced as people expect. They wouldn't even be able to wipe us out by rock chucking as it would render the planet much less habitable for generations and the amount of time to get them on target would seriously hamper the usefulness after perhaps an initial limited strike on population centers. Really in this case I'd think diplomacy would be their smarter move, but they might not be inclined to that for various reasons, just as humans may not be receptive to it.

>Born to a planet that's dying soon
>Collectivist enough to focus all of their efforts on jury rigging together some sort of generation ship, an effort quite possibly taking centuries of dedicated efforts and massive resources
>Aim it at the only little blue dot that you could find
>No sapients in sight
>Pick it back up on sensors 50,000 years later
>They've got fucking nukes now
>meanwhile your society has degraded into a Nigeria tier theocracy that can barely keep critical functions running
>Time to reinvent effective weaponry and even the concept of warfare/strategy in a hurry and on a budget

It's really not though. What if when we discover FTL it's so stupidly simple everyone in NASA has a big red handprint on their face for a week? We're expecting it to be super complicated but the reality is we simply don't know. We base a whole hell of a lot of opinions regarding this on sci-fi. It could legitimately be as simple as a damn spring made out of materials nobody's ever made a spring out of. Absurd and stupid? Absolutely. But also entirely possible.

>>63815085
That may depend entirely on how FTL works. All we have to go on is sci-fi which could be completely wrong about everything. You might not even be able to do RKV stuff with an FTL ship. Again though, we don't actually know. It could legitimately be useless for anything more than travel.

>>63815135
Micro-meteors are an entirely different threat from a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range. If your enemies are literally all using plasma rifles or other energy weapons you're probably not armoring against dedicated high velocity projectiles. Imagine some dude landing in gleaming exotic ceramic armor who can just stand there and take the most powerful lasers on earth but gets wasted by a 5.56 because against actual projectiles it's basically a flak jacket. What's more, he's absolutely fucking shocked because he was expecting to get hit with lasers, masers, phasers, plasma bolts, or some other exotic energy weapon we haven't discovered or imagined up.

>>63815433
>legitimately impossible
Neither of us actually know for sure one way or another. Other than that solid post. Being on a generation ship, even a really nicely built O'neill cylinder, would still undoubtedly be absolutely miserable. Scarcity is a cruel bitch, if you've solved that though it'll be a much more pleasant ride.

Without know their capabilities we have no idea. Simply being able to traverse space easily doesn't guarantee they also have advanced military technology. The pursuit of tech isn't civ tech tree you have to follow. We had the means to build bicycles for hundreds of years previous to its actual invention but didn't for example. It's entirely possible we run into an alien species that never engaged in large scale war, having never been able to stomach the loses from even minor skirmishes or the way that they developed weapons was entirely different to our own. Another might potentially not have the right amount of resources to make producing the kind of weapons we do on earth easily.

This question has too many unknowns to really be answered unless you are referring to a specific kind of alien

Well we know how colonialism works. It will be a small contingent of mercenaries hoping to use shock and internal divisions to place themselves at the top of the pile.

So:
1. Have our shit together (Thailand).
2. Chimp out at anything that gets in arrow range (Andaman Islanders)
3. Tell them Total Recall is real so they fuck off to Mars trying to find ancient terraforming equipment and three-titted women.
4. Invite them to our capital city which is some bumfuck Antarctic research station so they think we're poor.

But if they mean serious business then we just surrender and try to win the next war.

>But how do we fire arrows at them???

You assume a whole lot.
For all we know they might just have cold-war tier weapons and never have figured out radio, with their army having spent millions of years in deep hibernation as they made their way over here with an inertia-driven fleet.

Ground invasion implies that they want a planet or something from the planet intact. So I cobalt bomb the planet or have the threat of that as a deterrent. But to be honest Americans probably have some theoretical training plan for that along the lines of CONOP8888
