You are forcing the category too much. The reason you attack in waves is because you are limited on how many landing craft can drop onto a beach or limit bunching to protect against enemy artillery. The first wave is meant to be successful in its attack and the successive waves consolidate gains and relieve the first wave to attack deeper.

meatwaves is crashing men senselessly into the same killzone like ocean waves lapping against a rocky shore.

Russia does more of a meat trickle where they send a squad of men as a suicidal recon to locate and tire Ukrainian defenders. This does limit casualties by sending small elements, versus a larger wave, but it is obviously resulting in 1000 casualties a day.
