Are towed artillery still viable on the modern battlefield seeing how many of them have been destroyed in Ukraine?

Yes, but only by a professional military.

>how many of them have been destroyed
The fact they kept using them despite the high loss count implies not only they're viable, but that they're necessary.

olive drab and black and gold really don't work as colors for this kind of event

towed artillery has no place in Ukraine really
their only being used because they arent in a position to choose
Towed artillery is only relevant for mountainous terrain and when equipment can only be airlifted in
in any other case SPGs are simply better

Meanwhile russia just uses them like hell and eventually it wins. If you are scared of manpower lose then maybe just surrender.

Considering its usefulness and vulnerability, it may be worth considering building a bunker that can house a towed gun.

Well, it's not like there's an abundance of SPG anyways. I know there's a lot of modernization efforts, but I don't see self propelled outnumbering towed anytime due to sheer economics of the two. I know a D-20 isn't a M777, but there's still a significant gap between a say M777 and a RCH 155.
That said, is the US still stuck with the Paladin?

Economics is the only argument for Towed Guns though its still questionable considering Towed guns still need a seperate vehicle for Towing and also usually have a crew double the size of an SPG
All the Paladin Upgrade or Replacement Programs got cancelled from what I know
Why the US has such a huge issue replacing the Paladin I simply dont understand considering they Produce some of the most advanced Artillery shells in the World
You would think they would want to compliment those Shells with an equally advanced SPG
At this Point the US Army should really just look at some European system to be produced under license in the US

Well, the outcome of a war is very much tied to economics and logistics, so I'd say it's a very big argument. Besides, I'd also argue that a general purpose truck has way less impact on those factors than a dedicated chassis.

>European system to be produced under license
What could possibly go wrong?

The Army is transitioning to a non-combat organization and therefore is losing budget.

If you just produce it as-is, and not change a bazillion things on it, it'll probably go much better.
