Most of those drones are just stolen from the malian army.
The JNIM (al quaeda) have been posting a lot of them lately in their propagand loot picture.
They've been using them for recon and filming their propaganda (a lot of aerial view of their attacks), and are experimenting dropping explosives, most likely not long before used in their attacks.

Russia doesn't even know. They just know their whole goal is to make the west mad. So they convinced Mali to kick out the french. They backed a coup that ousted the last sane black person in Africa. Then immediately took more casualties than the French had in one decade, in one single skirmish.

Maybe it's Putin USSR larping like it's the good ol days, except this time they're not just dropping off AKs for rebels, they're getting skullfucked by goat rapists. The only thing that's clear is they have no plan to stabilize the region, no means to do so, and nothing to gain from this either.

There's a few sane African countries, most of them just learn to keep quiet and keep their head down. Ghana's a pretty nice place by African standards and probably can be considered to have a better standard of living than Russia (outside of Moscow and St Petersburg). Not exactly a high bar, I know. And then there's the last of the Big Man style leaders like Kagame, who's smart enough to know you actually have to build a decent country if you want to be dictator for life instead of plundering it and pissing off the West or China; thus changing the definition of 'life' by a few decades.
