My brain that has yet to give up and declare everything russian and stupid looking as a serious atempt at a weapon tells me, that this is a leaked picture of some workers sending their boss conformation of a job done. Said job was about securing the weapon for its transportation to replace a worn out Type 75.

But oh the obvious answer that has been hammered ad infinitum is "yes the russians are this retarded" .

Its all so tiresome.

I am particular impressed at how they removed the sights and any means of aiming it. They took a perfectly functional weapon that is ideal for quick deployment and relocation via ATV and ruined it.

Why? It already has a well designed trailer that would work just fine with a four wheeler, if you have ATVs there is no reason to put it on a truck. It actually makes it worse, besides the loss of accuracy you can't drop it off and hide it anymore.

One of it's defining features is that it is designed to be broken into man portable loads so it can be snuck into a area to act as surprise support for exactly the sort of human wave attacks Russia is doing, they have somehow reverted to having pre Mao tactics.

Post-Assad Syria kicking the Russians out of Tartus has now manifest as Russia pulling out of Mali/Sahel after the logistics became untenable.

It is literally meant to replace mortars, it is designed to break down into man portable loads. The idea was that it replaces medium mortars, by firing 12 shots at once then relocating it has more time than a traditional medium mortar to avoid counter battery fire.

The weapon weight is spot on though, at least for the 12x version. It must have something going for it given how half the planet uses the damn thing including at least one NATO nation (Turks) who are making new 107mm launchers in various configuration.

Although i will point out one thing about weapon weight: You can't compete with zero. The launcher isn't strictly needed and i don't care how great you were at hand egg in high school your throwing arm isn't that good.

8 to 11 for the more modern ones but it's mortar range.

Fun fact that we will probably see at some point: You can fire the rounds by leaning them against a rock or taping them to a stick like a gigantic bottle rocket then setting them off with matches.

That sounds much more reasonable, the numbers felt way off. The proportions are comparable given the 120mms larger size. Regardless the MLRS fires faster although the mortar obviously weighs much less.

I am leaning towards thinking that besides assaults and massed fires the mortar is superior if only due to the weight. Additionally the rockets only have one integral charge and mortars can be adjusted with better precision.
Besides specific uses the mortar is the superior general purpose weapon.

You Sir have won a internet argument and i concede.
