Eh, both are good rifles. They just have different strengths.
ARs are generally better for professional military forces that know what they're doing, and have decent logistical support.
AKs are better suited for conscripts and militia/guerilla-type forces that may be poorly versed in firearms maintenance, lacking quality ammo, and spare parts.

If I had to join an army and fight some big modern war, I'd prefer an AR.
If I had to go on a year-long expedition to bumfuck nowhere, with no supplies other than what me and my buddies could carry, I'd take an AK.
