I mean the Big Bad Enemy faction really SHOULD be the PRC but they still want the Chinks' money, so Russia is still being written like what we thought the Soviet Union was before the wall fell.

I remember I used to play China in Generals, not because I like chingchongs, but specifically because I wanted to nuke civilians and set dirka rioters on fire rather than use gay flashbangs.

Like all their devs are in Hungary these days and their company is officially on Cyprus.

Yeah, bunch of china generals were really good/fun too, nuke general was crazy op and fun. Although in fairness terrorist toxin general was also a hoot. The US generals in contrast were mostly pretty disappointing, I vaguely remember airforce general being kinda ok.

Still a really funny game, no pretense to balance but a good time. Kinda too bad EA forced them to call it "Command & Conquer" instead of being a new IP like originally planned, a lot of the criticism of it at the time was due to wrongly set expectations.

My problem with China in Generals was that they always felt like bootleg Soviets. Which I guess is basically what the PLA at that time. As a kid coming from Red Alert 2 I kept wondering why these guys aren't Russians. They have all the Soviet units and generally the same gameplay. Luv'd playing them still since battlemaster+gattling hordes were fun.
Guess it was just that moment in time before the PLA settled into a more unique Chink aesthetic as seen in Battlefield 2 two years later.

>I mean the Big Bad Enemy faction really SHOULD be the PRC but they still want the Chinks' money, so Russia is still being written like what we thought the Soviet Union was before the wall fell.
Yeah this is kind of where we ended up. Back during the CW and then in the 90s, the USSR was at least still a plausibly capable serious enemy, peer in at least a few respects even if the US pulled firmly further and further ahead by the late 70s and 80s, and simultaneously back then it was also basically zero economic market since both sides economies were quite isolated. China also was still mostly a non-market.

Now Russia is a basket case and China is clearly the direct peer opponent, but unlike in the CW there isn't a big iron curtain between us, China is simultaneously a huge economic market/player even while being geopolitically hostile in many respects. But nobody else on the planet is plausibly a major opponent either in a "realistic" game, you have to bring in aliens or fantasy invasions or something. So Russia gets shoved into the role even as it loses any even vague veneer of plausibility due to how utter shit they are and getting worse.

I liked the movie but still treating russia as le big rival to the US was retarded, their nuclear command and control even gets hacked by the entity after chinaโ€™s, which is just total horseshit.
I really liked the scene where heโ€™s in the submarine rolling towards an underwater cliff that was pretty cool.

but like who else could they use? not china cuz then the bugs would be mad and wouldn't watch the movie (ccp would probably just ban it) making less monies. which leaves russia by default, cuz again who else? pakis? venezuela (lol)? iran (bigger lol)?
