>$20 for 1 hour before the $300 in ammo you’re about to shoot.
>range maxes out at 75 feet (25m)
>always hot as shit year round
>concrete walls to maximize hearing damage.
>Even with 34db (most hearing protection won’t be this good either) of noise reduction the setup of the range will still cause hearing damage.
>James will bring his .454 and .308 battle rifle to the indoor range to make it worse.
>1 of 3 gun ranges Within 40 miles so it’s always packed with retards
>single lanes nothing moving “how would you like to shoot the same paper target another 300 times”
>anytime spent loading magazines, or if you just got a new gun breaking it in cuts into precious range time
>no steel case, no steel tip
>range officer gets on you if you “rapid fire” beyond 12 feet
>only 1 or 2 outdoor gun ranges under 50 miles, both are slow fire only change targets every 30 minutes only open half the years.
>would be easier to level the Middle East then trying to find a private place to shoot steel or anything other then the same paper target at 7 meters.
>hours that the range is open requires you to take time off work to get there, I get 30 days a year off which is generous but still not enough with other hobbies
>ammo price literally dictated by the fee fees of schizophrenics
I’m beginning to think that you’re better off finding out if you’re allowed to have guns as a hobby based on where you live rather then just trying to have shooting as a hobby.

I only shoot twice a year now because of all the reasons I mentioned. There’s always shit I’m forgetting too. I’m genuinely convinced you can only enjoy the hobby if you’re rich as all shit and can have a private out door range and actually entertaining targets other then
>look it’s a paper target
Clays has been the most fun I’ve genuinely had with the hobby in the past 6 months.

That’s on you negative Nancy. Indoor ranges are great for particular reasons
>shooting pistols at adjustable pistol distances
>can quickly check your target and send out new ones without having to wait for cease fire
>not hot because they have huge air conditioners running to keep ventilation up to code
>noise isn’t that bad, just double up.
>reloading mags because yeah no shit, you have to reload mags anywhere, it’s not a range issue
>range hours are inconvenient with work hours? Get a better job wagie
Squishies and a headset, nice and comfy
>if that’s still a problem move to a better state

>James will bring his .454 and .308 battle rifle to the indoor range to make it worse.
Boy do I have a story for you.
>live in vegas
>indoor range is always full of colorful characters
>shooting in right lane
>asian tattoo bro comes in with his festival/cosplay girlfriend
>pulls out a scar 17 for his girlfriend to shoot while he is taking pictures of her
>she turns muzzle 90 degrees (range rule is always pointing down range) and sweeps legs of her boyfriend posing for pictures
>rso opens door and firmly says FIREARMS MUST BE POINTED DOWN RANGE AT ALL TIME
>instead of just turning around and pointing down range she freezes and panicks for no reason
>RSO repeats himself again, FIREARMS MUST BE POINTED DOWN RANGE AT ALL TIME
>completely throws her hands up like she's playing hot potato and drops the scar right on the concrete
>asianbro immediately starts bitching at her
>she cries
>they leave
Still can hear the sound of that SCAR slapping concrete EOTech first lmao.

People out west have it better because they can just go to some BLM land and shoot for free. The drawback is that they live in a blighted desert, though.

For a second I thought you meant there were Black Lives Matters compounds you wanted to go shoot up, then that they're running open-air ranges to support the revolution and you could just rock up at one and start blasting away at cop-shaped targets.

This is true about a lot of things, where you're born pretty much determines your entire life. Try getting into rock climbing in Florida or boating in New Mexico. Not only are physical locations to do these things rare, but anyone skilled and passionate has likely moved to a better spot, so the mentors you're learning from are all casuals.

Sharing space with ghetto nigs at a place that caters to the lowest common denominator to fleece them is not worth it.
>Eagle Sports Range near Chicago.
>I shoot passably well.
>Blacks want to see the gun that lets me shoot well.
>They can't shoot it well.
>I get to feel superior.
>Go during times when RO's are good guys.
>Getting undisclosed benefits from being a competent shooter who listens to the rules.
Other times
>Get muzzled by a nigger who stepped away from the line to load his turkshit shotgun
>Which was loaded and pointed at the back of everyone at the range.
>Step away to tell RO: some retard kid who who looking down at his phone.
>"I didn't see it."
>Point it out when it happens a second time
>ACTUALLY does something about it.
Not to mention general greed.
>Used to have a dual membership with my dad.
>Pre-covid they'd politely ask to renew membership before charging the card.
>This decency went out the door once covid hit so they could charge people who would not be shooting given ammo prices at the time.
Assholes lost all my business after that.

>they do alright with the pistol they brought, only real complaint was they were both tea cupping hard
>cease fire ends
>I had a speed loader for my GP100 ready so I loaded and cocked in just a second or two
>out of the corner of my eye I see they both still have their ear pro on top of their heads, not over their ears
>decide to give them another few seconds being I give them permanent ear damage with my magnum
>someone else shoots at a booth way down the line, scares the shit out of them and they quickly put their earpro back on

It’s better than wet and hot. Half the year I go outside you’re guaranteed to get sweaty (and also the sweat doesn’t evaporate) and your carry gun has to be stainless. This is taken at my gunclub’s swamp range. The different distances are at least separated by berms so you can check targets a lot more easily though.

That sucks, I usually have a good experience with ROs, especially the young ones. Though my indoor range is staffed mostly by young vets, so they take safety seriously but still like to have fun. Recently,
>go to indoor range
>young vet bro chilling watching everyone, not too busy of a day so he’s mostly watching me
>kneel down to open my rifle case with my shotgun in it
>open case, barrel is pointing opposite of down range
>monkey brain thinks for a minute, could easily just pick it up and flip it
>smart monkey brain says no
>close the case, flip the whole case around, open, remove shotgun
>glances up at RO
>he has a huge smile on his face and gives me a thumbs up
>literally looks like pic related
> “you have no idea how much I appreciate that”
>hell yeah
The range is a little pricey but the staff make it worth it. They have a perfect balance of chill attitude and rigorous safety.

If all I had available was indoor ranges, I wouldn't shoot as a hobby. And you don't have to move all the way innadesert to find public land out west. I used to drive up into those hills, pull off the side of the road, and that was my shooting range, but private range memberships also tend to be under $200/year so you have your options.

Can’t speak for everyone, but I can’t afford to make my hobby cheaper. If I buy a 500 round box, I’m way more likely to go to the range and shoot it all, more than I naturally would. I would feel obligated to shoot it. Then I’ll buy more and more, in the long run spending more money than before. I’m getting a better rate of course, but I would increase the frequency of range trips. Whereas now I wait until I actually really want to go, pick up a box or 2 at the sporting goods store nearby and hit the range. I get the same satisfaction. The same logic goes for food. If you buy food in bulk, you’ll end up eating more because you have more, not because you’re actually hungry for more.

I buy a lot from auction sites and I've noticed guns from Southern/humid states almost always have surface rust somewhere or at least develop a patina/color change over time.
I usually avoid them for that reason, seems like a shitty place to be a gun owner when even the air is out to destroy your funs.

You’re probably right. Though there are different ways to be “control” temptation. I would argue purposely not buying tempting items is a form of control. It’s why I never got into WoW. All my buddies played it for a year or two and begged me to join their clan or whatever. But I knew if I started playing I’d get sucked in and never be able to focus on other things. So I just never started. Same reason why I don’t touch pot or gummies. I’m sure it’ll be great and help me relax, but I know myself and I do not need a new dependency

It’s drives my wife crazy because I’m essentially saying “yes I know I have a problem but I’m not doing anything to end it”. My dear, I am. The only way to kill off a dependency or addiction is to starve it. It’s how I broke my cravings for soda, chocolate, desserts, most alcohols, and video games. Remove temptation and your body eventually forgets how good it was and drops it. Now I don’t want to completely kill my hobby of shooting, but I also don’t want to stoke it into a full blown obsession. At least until I have the disposable income to maintain it.

I already do double up. You have to not fundamentally understand how hearing damage works if you think this solves it. The true solution is, suppressors only, doubled up or custom ear plugs and shoot only outdoors. Go ahead put in all the hearing protection you want that won’t prevent hearing damage from shotguns indoors.

It’s like you people purposely don’t want to understand how this work. You can put all the hearing protection you want on. Razors+earplugs then duct tape your whole head. It caps out at 34 db and normally this is fine if you’re outdoors or using suppressors. However when Adrian with his 12 gauge shows up at the indoor range you are still getting hearing damage but dropped below the threshold of pain. It makes a difference in the long term not just one visit but tens or hundreds of visits

You’re damaging your hearing just slower. Your setup will drop you below the threshold of pain but not damage. Your hearing once completely destroyed cannot come back. This issue isn’t as bad outdoors because the sound doesn’t vibrate off the concrete bunker you’re in at indoor ranges.

Most of the lead in indoor ranges does not come from the projectile; it comes from the primer igniting and then remains there due to poor ventilation. Casting bullets would not harm you at all.

It's like you're deliberately fucking stupid. You mention 34dB NRR which is a highly rated ear muff then when I call your stupid fucking ass out on it you move the goalposts to "well yeah but it's still not good enough if you use two forms of hearing protection". No shit, it's not optimal. I'm calling you a retard for only wearing a single form of hearing protection (34dB earmuffs) instead of doubling up. If you were doubling up, you'd be stating the combined rating not 34dB. The combined rating of 34dB earmuffs and 33dB ear plugs worn correctly (you probably don't know how to do this because you're obviously a tard) is something like 39dB.

Most budget headsets are only rated for 22-23 and even the most expensive headsets don’t usually exceed 26-28. Not my hearing you can call me a faggot all you want doesn’t change the facts of it.

Just so you know, this chart is useless since it doesn't specify the distance or location of the SPL measurement. dB of sound pressure is meaningless on its own, it requires a distance from source to be meaningful. It's like telling someone the velocity a round achieved without mentioning the barrel length it came out of, one variable is highly dependent on the other.

depends how often and soon after exposure you tested. blood levels naturally fall over time after exposure because your body moves the blood lead into your bones and organs, which is where the damage happens. you wouldn't want it to be elevated at all at any point if you value your brain and other organs.

Indoor ranges have their place. I go almost weekly in the summer when it's 110+ outside and doing anything at all I the heat is miserable. Mine is better ventilated and air conditioned than most, and I have a membership and go during the week so crowding isn't usually an issue. I only shoot handguns there so the range is plenty.

The noise is still an issue, and I usually double up with plugs under my comtacs. In the winter when the weather is nice, I end up wanting to ride my motorcycle more than shoot anyway.

I shoot at my local outdoor range that goes out to 300 yards. I also shoot for free because the owner of the range is a long time family friend.
Even if he wasn't, I still wouldn't have to pay because veterans shoot for free.

Indoor ranges are a big city thing. I've never lived in the city, aside from military housing. If you live in a rural area, find the largest farm you can, and volunteer some of your weekend time to help out on the farm in exchange for shooting on their property.
That's what I did for years when I was younger, and the older guys love it. They will shoot with you, and farmers are not fudds; They love all guns equally. It will really make their day.
Most people don't realize this, but old farmer types are just bros. They want a guy buddy to hang out with and shoot with on the weekends.

Such is life here in DFW; no public land for shooting and there’s two pricey outdoor ranges. My Range USA isn’t that bad thankfully. No dark elves when I go there. Most staff are younger guys. One RSO likes my Bucee’s Sonnenrad Patch on my range bag and my Sneed patches. They also love when I bring my A2 clone. Had a good memory there a year ago when I brought my 1911, Wrangler, A2 clone, and Bersa Thunder all there in my rifle case. I set it down and just started pulling guns out and a boomer in the next booth was watching me and he gave me a thumbs up (which I returned to him with a grin)
