Alright boys this thread probably has been made before I’m not sure. I’m not trying to use handgun general because I’m right now at the moment trying to buy before I waste anymore time.
>thread question
Thoughts on these two? Is frame mounted safety a pro or a con? If you had to pick one of these two which would it be and why?

I prefer the frame mounted safety but its not like a giga deal breaker that makes the 92fs garbage, its much better than the taurus even other than that

I love frame mounted. Just flick off the thumb and you're ready to shoot. Slide mounted for me is harder to get the motions down, but it's still workable

Frame mounted is superior for comfort and for actually using as a safety. I'd still rather have a Beretta though for a multitude of other reasons

Why is it much better? Or is it simply the taboo feeling you get when you buy a MIM Stratocaster vs a MIA strat? You get my meaning? Is it simply a brand issue or is there more to it like the steel?

Frame mounted safety is generally more appealing to me, but the Beretta is going to be WAY higher quality.

General production quality, though the pt taurus is among the best taurus has to offer since theyre just aping the original berettas with all the original tooling, equipment and even some of the engineers and shit who were in brazil for the original manufacture

If you want a frame mounted safety you can get a Beretta GTS now which has one. The silly billies in here talking about using the safety though are dumb. The safety is the double action trigger. What the frame mounted safety IS good for is as a place to put your thumb while you are shooting like a 1911. I've got an M9 and the slide safety doesn't bother me, although I do not keep the gun in safe while carrying it, just use it as a decocker. I almost even swapped the safety into a decocker only configuration but realized that I don't need to waste the money on it as I already have muscle memory for decocking and then putting the gun back on fire after I've done it

I like frame mounted safety better, but now that I own my own Beretta 92, the slide mounted safety really doesn't bother me as I thought it would.

That said, I think the safety on the Beretta is pointless; it just needs to be a decocker. If you're carrying a Beretta, the double-action trigger is your safety. You want cocked and locked, carry a 1911 or a Hi-Power.

Yeah I was also thinking 1911 but I was thinking of going for 10mm and probably putting in a heavier spring for the extra power that comes with a 10mm round

Its highly convenient for plinking/training, chamber a round and decock with the thumb barely moving, shoot the first round in da for each mag like you really would if you had to use it. Minor quality of life in my view

If you want a 92 but don't want to pay Beretta prices get a Girsan Regard. Its one of the few guns made in Turkey that is actually good and not just $99 shotgun tier turkshit.

They're also 100% parts compatible with the lone exception being the locking block (which was upgraded). Because of this you have to use a Girsan block with a Girsan barrel or a Beretta block with a Beretta barrel. They also ship with Mec-Gar mags, which are the best you can get for the 92 platform.

that sounds worse actually, taurus and berreta barrels are the same and the locking blocks are compatible. theres no gurate girsan will actually still exist to get their proprietarty locking block a decade from now. girsan as a brand will exist but the parts nah. there have been so many rebranded turkish clones that get imported for like 3-5 years then vanish.

>frame mounted safety
Is stupid on a Beretta. The 92 with the slide mounted safety/decocker has the best decocker design on the market, it allows the pistol to be completely decocked with the hammer sitting flush instead having to rest on a different notch on the sear like most pistols when decocked. If you want to you can even get a decocker only conversion. I seriously doubt that most people saying to get the Taurus or turkshit guns own or regularly shoot them.

Even if that somehow happened (the company has been around for decades and there are a gorillion Regards on the planet) you can literally just replace the Girsan locking block and barrel with a Beretta one. As an example the gun in that photo has a Beretta M9A3 threaded barrel and locking block.

The reason Girsan changed the locking block itself was because Beretta's original design could be prone to stress fractures at (very) high round counts*. The Regard is the sidearm for the Turkish army and much of the country's police force, so they wanted a stronger component. The gun itself is manufactured using machines that were purchased from Beretta when the platform was licensed by Girsan. Also you can get one in an engraved gold finish and LARP as a cartel drug dealer for shits/gigs.

*If you have a Beretta 92 series pistol the locking block issue is not something that a normal owner will ever experience, and Beretta sells replacement locking blocks on their website if you ever do. Beretta's original 92/M9 design dates back to the 70s, and changing it would have been practically impossible because it would have caused a colossal logistics clusterfuck among all of the military branches that were contracted to use it.

I qualified on M9 and M1911 (Yes, I'm old). I preferred the frame safety because it was easier to reach with my thumb to operate. I would have to break my grip to reach the slide de-cocker on the Beretta. The frame mounted safety on the new Berettas is just comfy.

I'd be more concerned with the quality and reliability of the firearm more than where the decocker is located.

Get the Beretta anon.

I don't know about "much better" but the beretta has several generations of manufacturing and design improvements that the taurus is missing out on. mainly the locking block will supposedly last longer before it breaks. also it's not made by monkey soup eaters.
