>"We are receiving modern light aircraft with modern weapons and navigation aids, which will increase the effectiveness of countering Russian strike drones."

This is interesting in light of the aircraft shown at Paris such as >>63874044
Any bets on what they could be?

>inb4 it's those SAAB trainer jets from the 60s that were retired by the Swedes last year.
Apparently some variants can carry guided air-to-air missiles and 30mm gun pods, so I guess they'd work well enough for shooting down Saheed drones.

He also said today that they;re going to abandon the defense-only posture because that leads only to losses. They’re going to re-structure the front so that offensive operations alternate with defensive ones. I wonder what "offensive" means to them though.

It is the next logical step in drone warfare, we are going to see WW2 tier dogfights unironically.

If I had to guess I'd say that they're going to try and launch pre-emptive strikes on Russian troop buildups in an attempt to neuter or disrupt offensives before they happen instead of just holding the line and taking them on the chin. I highly doubt that the Ukrainians will be launching large-scale offensives. This is pure speculation on my part, however.

Didn't the austrians retire it recently as well and replaced it with another LCA?

A-29Ns most likely
>In August 2019, a Ukrainian military delegation visited Embraer's military division in São Paulo and flew the Super Tucano.[153] In October 2019, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a meeting with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, informed that his country would buy the Super Tucano.[154] In December 2022, the Brazilian media reported a Ukrainian interest in the Super Tucano, to equip its air force for the Russo-Ukrainian War; however, the sale was blocked by the Bolsonaro administration.[155] A diplomatic effort by the United States to persuade the president-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to unblock the deal, has been reported.[155]

That's beyond retarded. Just dig in and rack up mobik cubes, don't waste your very limited manpower and resources on pointless offensives.

It wouldn't work, the planes are too slow, Ukraine has used Bayraktar TB2 drones for CAS, but they are vulnerable to manpads.

>>63879355 (OP)
I guess they could hunt shahed drones, the planes have 2 internal .50 cals with 200 rounds each, and a 20mm cannon that can be mounted under the fuselage.

But Ukraine is already trying to develope interceptor drones against shaheds, plus they have a lot of personnel who have experience in EW, so I doubt that buying a new plane just to engage shaheds seems like a bad idea.

Lula wouldn't greenlight a sale either, so it'll most likely be some euro trainer.

>plus they have a lot of personnel who have experience in EW
Gerans are increasingly resistant to EW and will eventually be autonomous, so throwing a lot of solutions on the board is necessary to have options for responding to enemy evolutions.

>But Ukraine is already trying to develope interceptor drones against shaheds
There are four approved for use already. They're not a silver bullet though, range is a factor since Russia likes to strike at smaller cities to evade air defences.

Well that didn't take long.
Last night's air raid was 352 drones and 16 missiles, they'll be wanting to hustle it into service.

>The Ukrainian Air Force has received its first light-engine two-seater SHARK aircraft, equipped with an electronic warfare system designed to counter drones.

>The aircraft features a radar and onboard EW complex that deflects enemy drones from their targets. At an altitude of 1,800 meters, it can suppress enemy systems within a 4.5 km radius. Its flight time reaches up to 12 hours.
