I get that Project Grayburn is in the early stages but there's still no clear indication of what will actually replace the SA80. It's not even like I think it's a bad rifle (anymore) but everything that came before it was so much more reputable. Even if the Gulf war was mostly artillery duels and airstrikes I'm embarrassed for anyone who went in to combat with an A1 but am I right to be or has everyone just exaggerated how bad it really was? I just find it so hard to fathom the idea of our government sending thousands of frontline troops to battle with a rifle that had a 50/50 chance of not working for years on end.
But back to potential replacements everyone is so vague, many have suggested we copy the NGSW (doubtful) or switch to some other new calibre but wouldn't it be perfectly logical to just adopt a new 5.56 rifle? Someone fill me in because the sources I've looked at tell me nothing other than Beretta possibly making an entry
