What are some "nice" wooden, semi-automatic rifles you can still get today? A sort of a wall hanger.

When you shoot 9mm out a 16" barrel, it's pretty similar to a 3 or 4 inch .357 magnum

Like a 9mm 124gr Speer gold dot is moving at 1350fps from a carbine barrel

Yes, anon, M80 ball out of literally any rifle at the time does 600 yards, that is neither unexpected nor impressive.
The fact of the matter is that the M14 family of rifles has significant, incredibly well-documented issues, and is fucking expensive as shit for what is essentially a shittier M1 Garand. Particularly if you don't live in an AWB state, you have a whole host of other rifles that are mechanically superior to it for less money.
If you like the look of them, say that. Don't try to claim the M14 is a good fucking rifle.

Ah, well, no worries then.
You just pay $1.5k for the rifle, then another $500 to rebed the rifle so it can be capable of something approximating 3-5MOA, then just another $1.5k for a stock that isn't 8lbs - or $1k for a gun safe that keeps the stock from warping horrendously, then just a small expenditure for either match grade ammo or the ability to reload because most factory ammo is either going to bend the op-rod or is gonna net you like 8MOA.

But yeah, good rifle. Nothing wrong with that. Not like you can pick up a SCAR or anything for the same price and have it be 2MOA out of the box with zero issues lmao

Ian McCollum and Chris Bartocchi said it was bad, bunch of other guntubers made videos parroting it. Now it's basically accepted as irrefutable set-in-stone fact that the M14 is "objectively" the #1 worst weapon of any kind ever fielded and anyone who likes it or heaven forbid owns one is a total retard.

There are some accurate points. There were some politics involved in the adoption of the rifle and it wasn't as advanced a choice as it could have been. There were horrible QC issues with early military issues versions, along with some commercial slop corner cutting afterwards. It is not a rifle that can be made cheaply without suffering immensely (looking at you, Springfield Inc.). But it absolutely can be a very accurate and reliable rifle if built and used correctly.
The negative points against it are vastly exaggerated, and many are completely irrelevant today.

It sucks that the gun world is as influencer driven as it is, but that's just how things are. Upside is that any used M14 now is virtually impossible to sell, so it's easy to haggle it down to nothing. It's a buyer's market in general right now, but most dealers who have a nice M1A can't even give it away.

My AG-42 outperformed my friend's father's Match-Grade Springfield M1A rifle at a 300 yard range. Granted that's a sample size of 1, but my rifle was nearly $1,000 cheaper than my friend's father's rifle. I can't see any reason why someone would get an M1A. I don't think it's just zoomers ganging up on this rifle it's more that people who buy them realize that they suck afterwards. I had the same experience with my PTR-91.

>Now go shoot an AR10
>Then finally go shoot an M1A
>who could even do that?
I don't know about all that fancy AR10 stuff like that rich guy, but there is no way I would chose anything pictured but the M1A at or over 300yrds. Off-hand, kneeling, seated or prone I have found my M1A more accurate, better hold, better sight picture, FAR superior sights and chicks dig it. By that, I mean only hits count.

If only it took G3 mags, it does not.

Join a club affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program, like the M1 Collectors club, and get a nice M1 Garand, in shooting condition or better. My Harrison & Richardson was a late, 1952-53 manufacture, new Criterion barrel, and new wood and hardware. Well under the $2-3k people are asking for fudd garage rebuilds that will beat themselves to death or have a critical failure.

Original purchase, $600, new wood etc. about $300.

I have owned a FAL and I currently own a G3, which I also really like. I've owned several M14 clones, some good some terrible. I'm not pulling shit out of my ass. I've had trigger time on most of the common battle rifles, and an absolute fuck ton on the M14 family specifically.

This is price is 100% artificial, they are NOT worth this much and they were selling for like $1600 during covid. I won't get fucking scammed like that.

They were not 1.6 during covid. At their lowest they were 1.9 and didn't come with a scope.

I bought mine at Cabela's out of their Gun Library for $2200 but after fees, taxes, it was right around $2500. The Gun Library guy thanked me for buying it because it is awkward as hell to put it in and take it out of the display case every day, and lock it up in the safe every night per new state laws for secure storage.

Atlantic Firearms was selling them for $1800 but they took off the scope and sold it separately because the whole kit from Century included the retail packaging for the PSO scope.

Photo - my fat, muscular dystrophy crippled ass, holding my new PSL in my office two weeks before the assault weapons law took effect that July 1st.

Har. But in Washington State, specifically the Puget Sound / Seattle region, my wife sees people still wearing N95 masks inside Trader Joes. The incels and trans dudes w/ tits wear black masks and their little friend group likes to visit the Nike store with hammers, no cash bail, no charges.

Now, no semiauto anything, no mags over 10 rounds. 10 years ago it started with all gun sales must have a NICS run on the buyer. Then they created a legal definition of a "Semi-automatic Assault Rifle" which needed an extra background BS, and people just lived with it, and kept buying under the legal term/definition.

Two years later is the mag ban. The following year, universal background checks, the FBI said they won't help, so we built our own janky-ass NICS operated by the State Patrol and the Department of Licensing. They are 10 months behind on checks. Same year, and Semi-automatic Assault Rifles are banned. And you have to take a safety and storage class.

Soon we will need a license to purchase, and a 50-round live fire, safety class. My Concealed Carry License doesn't count anymore.

All Kitchen Counter FFLs are out of business because they can't afford to buy the mandatory servers, video and audio equipment and the 7-year, 1080p res. data storage requirements.

I want to sell my house and go buy something elsewhere. But we both have aging parents and we take care of them. So I can't leave for a while.

Be warned: if/when your state has a Democrat majority in both houses in the legislature, state Supreme Court judges are openly Democrats, and the Lt. Governor, Governor, and Attorney General are rubber stamping every bill written by Bloomberg and Giffords lobbies, this is how you go from a NRA rated "A-" to a big red "F" in less than ten years.

I saw this coming, and bought every semiauto and standard capacity mag I could find.

Fellow WAfag, it is painful living here now.
I miss when our state was purple and more or less normal. Gone are the halcyon days of showing your CPL and walking out with your super scary assault weapon (unless it was a pistol then you wait 3 days per the Brady Bill).

I hope things get better soon. Its so demoralizing doing 2a advocate work in WA when you know you have a state supreme court that's so ideologically captured that the state is a uniparty hellhole. And its not just 2a things, its as you say - the crime is rampant and unaddressed because mUh RaCiSmS.
And oh no the poor criminals feel targeted? Over-policed? Yes they should feel targeted because they're criminals, stop breaking the law.

Just don't move. Things will change for the better and you'll be there to see that, maybe even help in some way. Things are changing all around, all these bans and shit are their last attempt at whatever demonic shit they're trying to pull but you can't ban generational culture change.
