An actual post apocalypse situation would very quickly see a return to black powder muskets (rifled and firing minei balls, but probably using flintlocks instead of percussion caps) as these would be the most advanced firearms that can be produced at any scale without relying on industrial or post industrial materials and processes
The lack of stuff like fuel and rubber would also very quick turny armoured vehicles into a rarity, while the lack of cordite would render automatic weapons (except gatling style weapons) largely non feasable due to fouling and the lack of radios plus the return to black powder makes it impossible to co-ordinate battlefield manures without instruments, flags and bright uniforms

Thanks to this combination of factors, I predict we would see a more or less immediate return to Napoleonic style linear warfare, complete with cavalry charges and high fashion, but somewhat deadlier and with more novel tactics due to the rifled muskets and the presence of surviving institutional knowledge about gunfighting from the post Napoleonic/pre apocalypse era

i could pretty easily reverse engineer a lot of simple cartridge guns that can be reloaded with black powder and cast bullets, enough atleast that a decent machinist could make one from the ground up
corrosive primers are relatively easy to make, and enough spent casings will be available for people to keep reloading

There is a lot of ammo to run through and most people will not be seeking firefights to waste their ammo. Plus every death means that person's remaining ammo gets looted by the victor.

But yes, black powder reloads of brass will be a thing, and older cartridges will run BP better. Nitrocellulose is actually easier to make than BP because you just need cotton or similar and nitric acid, which can be made from the air.
