The issue with the trapdoor isn't that it was single shot, it's that it's a muzzle loader conversion kept in service much longer than anyone else did - where the British replaced the Snider with the Martini, or the Russians replaced the Kranka with the Berdan etc the Americans kept on trucking with the trapdoor. It really wasn't an issue, and certainly not one anyone cares about.
