My great uncle spent like 40 years working at Skunk Works, starting in 1950. I have no idea what he did. Nobody in my family does. But apparently some of the shit he built was patented and put up in satellites. He was also constantly monitored by the government and they regularly took photos of him and all the people in his life that he associated with. Is there ANY way I could find out what he worked on? Itโ€™s probably a long shot but his job sounds cool as fuck and I wish he was still around to ask. Thanks for reading my blog.

No idea. If the records exist, I doubt theyโ€™d be publicly available. You may be able to look through patents for his name.
Anyways, my great uncle was a geophysicist. He worked for NASA mapping the Earth, I believe. He was a professor after that.

But working on satellite imaging of the Earth during peak cold war is suspicious as fuck.
What are the chances he was helping to spy on the Russians?

Try and find someone he worked with, if any of them are still alive. If that doesn't work, your only other real option is to ask someone at Lockheed, in the hopes that his stuff became declassified at some point. It's probably not going to work, but you never know.

Close to 100% if his own government is spying on him that intensely

It's classified, dipshit. I know retired people, people I worked with and myself who will never ever reveal the project details. Ever. Generally, these people are very proud of the work done, collaberation, and coworkers. We work as a team, even in the SCIFs. (secret compartmentalized in formation) i know, it doesn't sound out as well as the acronym. In SCIFs, you only do one small part and may not know how it is even used.

It might be even worse than that. I heard from a spook I know that black budget projects are not just kept secret but there might actually be 0 paperwork you could access unless you went to the blacksite where it was worked on in the firstplace

Short answer, no. You could file a Freedom of Information Act motion but it'll probably get blocked for National Security reasons.

>1950s
He might have worked on the U-2.

Literally just email Lockheed. I know of the grandson of an ex employee with a similar situation and they gave him a quick tour of the main Lockheed facility and a few photos of his grandpa while he was working on the F-117 development.
