Sometimes I do wonder If a north korean victory would have been better for the peninsula overall. Think about it: it wasn't too long that both koreas were harsh military dictatorships, and for a long time North Korea was actually the more prosperous one. Perhaps a unified Korea would have felt less cornered, and would have been more open to the world, even with the Kims in powers. they probably wouldn't have fallen into ultracapitalism like the south did.

Years ago a spy sub from NK went aground somewhere. It was several scientists and several of their specops guys. First the guys shot the scientists, researchers, etc. They then set the sub on fire. A manhunt went on for almost a month. They kept getting pinned down and fighting to the death. Two more, in ROK gear, were killed in a firelight literally a few miles from the DMZ. Actually taking over the South would be a huge threat to the Kims, a unified state would be too big, have too many people and be too decentralized.
