When they show you images of drones/Planes thermal cameras looking at something on the ground, how far away are they from the object they are looking at before shooting a missile at it?

You won't really know. That kind of data usually gets blacked out or redacted because it can be used to determine where the aircraft approached from which puts future operations at risk. You can usually assume that its at or around the publicly available maximum range of the sensor/munition fired. As for determining what munition was fired thats up to autistic people.

Dropper drone = 50m-150m
Shark or DJI Mavic = 600m to 2km
Apache helicopter = 1km to 10km
Predator/Reaper/F35 = 10km to 40km

So you can assume its the max range of said sensor of plane.
