The Chinese, even now, have an extreme interest in ekranoplanes. The intel "leak" by the NYT a few weeks ago of security threats the Russian FSB was dealing with internally included China, and more specifically the chinese hunting for anybody with any relation to the Soviet ekranoplane project.
