because of their faster response time, the amount of PGM's it was dropping and their better availability than the thunderbolt with regards to wheather/atmospheric conditions they got way more done, yes.
PGM's in general were responsible for a truly outstanding amount of targets hit despite making up a relatively small percentage and i realized just now you can turn this into a "despite making up only 13% of the population" meme.

i mean, sure, if your targets are completely incapable of really fighting back much it has it's merits, but even then there's the caveat of it being pretty damn slow to on location provided it's not already on patrol or active in the area.

I checked out the F-111 at our local aviation museum last year. Cool plane but smaller than I imagined for some reason.

There's an F/A-18 behind me when taking this picture. Never a big fan of them previously but they do look cool as fuck irl.

Which is why they were retired. Can't have a trillion dollar jet fighter program, when the top brass sees they have battle tested half-a-century old platform that can kill the enemy at 1/100th of the cost per tank.
I come from an ex-commie country, where there was a tradition of closing down successful but politically unfavorable companies, and prop up lumbering barely working monstrosities.

The way history repeats itself is pottery.
