Forced Reset Trigger & Super Safety General /frtssg/

General to discuss fully semi-automatic devices, such as the forced reset trigger (FRT) and super safety (SS).

News:
>ATF/DoJ settled with RBT
>cuck states suing to get the federal ban reinstated
>RBT suing Deez Nutz for selling Hoffman safeties
>Atrius Super Selektors shipping now with ambis coming soon

Is it legal? Yes! Unless you live in a cuck state.

You've heard of FRTs, but what's a "super safety"?
>like an FRT, but a different mechanism (the safety)
>cheaper than an FRT
>$90-$120 for full drop-in kit
>3D printable or CNC (recommend stainless/4140)
>most are 3 position cross-bolt safety
>left is safe, right is semi, middle is fully semi-automic
>Atrius now shipping the only super safety that operates like a normal AR safety selector

How it works:
https://youtu.be/KIxsnh2fFTo [Embed]

To make an AR-15 super safe you'll need:
>M16 style/"full auto" bolt carrier group
>H3 or H2 buffer weight (will do 600-750 rpm of 5.56)
>"low shelf" lower receiver
>SS
>any AR trigger so long as you give it an SS cut

Sounds like growing pains for a small business to me, got a bit overextended and they've stopped new orders while they unbury. I wouldn't be worried, just need some patience. There have been plenty of things I've had to wait over a month to receive. Hell, I was buying NFA items when wait times were over a year so 4 weeks sounds like nothing my brother in Christ.

Rare breed buyer here from previous thread. H2 buffer didn't work, switched uppers and it worked perfectly with the H2. So apparently all my problems were caused by my aero upper which I bought complete and I suspect maybe the gas block wasn't installed correctly or something. On the cheap M&P sport ii upper it worked just fine with an H2 buffer weight.

Update - I ran it on my v7 build, 7" honey badger barrel assembly. Winchester super suppressed - 650 rpm (dogshir underpowered dirty slop for ammo) and those lehigh 194s - 840rpm, smooth as butter. Running an h3 buffer with a lightweight bcg (8.2oz) and a flat tubs spring. Ejection around 4o clock. I expect supers ro be like an mg42 @ 1100-1200rpm. It has "unlocked" the ability to paint targets with low recoil ~950-1050fps rounds, which is unfathomably based and is more true to the design of PDWs being bullet hoses. buy one

For anyone planning on running an ATRIUS selector, here's what ive compiled as necessities thus far

1 millspec trigger with a flat rear shelf, the PSA enhanced polished trigger seems to work great.

2 filed flat rear of carrier group for good sear interface, If the back shelf of your bcg has a slant, slope or curve you need to file it flat so the trip sear engages on a flat surface and doesn't get bent, this is what was causing all of the leavers breaking previously.

3 H2 or H3 buffer WITH shake in the buffer weights, a no rattle/ no shake buffer will result in bolt bounce and lead to out of batteries or light strikes.

Follow these steps and you should have good results.

the hofmans sear engages in the center of the BCG, the Super selektor engages on the right hand side of the bcg. The hoffman is more battle tested and will likley work more reliably with less work but you still have to modify your lower and its far less intuitive with the cross bolt saftey.

why do they have is offset to the side anyways, seems like it'd work just as well straight
at first i thought it was so it could push the sear out of the way of the bolt to remove the super safe function, but in every position its alligned with the bolt
maybe they did it just so it'd break quicker to get more people to buy it

could be, i think its so that the disconnector can interact with the side of the trigger bar rather than the middle where it is structurally weaker, either that or they made it like that because of needing to ad a cam to put it into third position. maybe ask em on insta, though i doubt youll get a response lmfao

FYI if anyone was wondering, H1 buffers gave 1 tungsten weight, H2 buffers have 2 and H3 have 3 (carbine weight buffers are 3 steel). So if you have an h2 & an h1 you can swap a tungsten weight with a steel, leaving you with an H3 and a standard carbine buffer.

run any full auto m4 style carrier group from BCM Knights armorment, Daniel defense, Aero precision, or any other American manufacturing plant, avoid anything made in bulk or china.

A bare bones MPI, full auto rated BCG from Aero precision is 120 bucks and is gonna last you the entire life of you receiver set. even a gucci top of the line Nickle boron BCG is 250 bucks from BCM or knights armorment.

same thing as atrius, but i'm also gonna make super safeties for other guns
i came up with the lever cam idea like 2 weeks before the super selector was anounced so i was pretty distraught to find out someone beat me to it, but recently found out their design kinda sucks if you dont want to fuck up your gun with a dremel and they're constantly out of stock so i'm gonna do what they did but better and cheaper
might also do something for the suomi kp31 because i already drew some stuff up in the past and indianapolis ordnance is slow as shit

Your bit about the dremel makes me think yours will be high shelf compatible, will us LMT-cels have an option now? Atrius "claims" they will be making a high shelf option eventually but they seem to be claiming anything that will get them more future orders they can't fulfill, I trust a /k/ommando more than them. Regardless I will be monitoring these generals and wish you the best of luck with your designs and business.

what kind of lever styles do you guys wanna see
i'm a gun purist so i prefer the m16 selector style, and i'll probably do an ambidextrous one aswell

That side-by-side AR thing had two triggers in the US because they were concerned that a two barrels shooting from a single trigger would make it legally a machine gun. You could make an FRT that fires one barrel in each direction.

Original BCG post annon here, what looks to be happening to you is either your upper/lower is out of spec and its causing the bcg to impact the top of the leaver rather than the contact surface or, like you said your BCG has a AS cut and that is causing that wear pattern. In order to have proper engagement, you have to have a milled or dremaled flat spot on the right hand side of the carrier tail, where the sear engages it. here's a video further explaining it and giving examples if you would like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDsfrPExDfM&t=654s&ab_channel=VPNationTim

According to mg42 forums and several builders over the years, supposedly the risk it's going to have an out of battery is pretty substantial since there's nothing to ensure the bolt is fully engaged before the firing pin closes if the cyclic rate is too fast with the semi bolt conversions. I'm curious, but I'm not going to risk my mg42 to find out.

I run a 7" honey badger barrel assembly v7 build and for what it's worth here's some data. Lightweight bcg (8.2oz) + h3 buffer + tubbs + thunder chicken + 194 lehigh subs/200gr Winchester super suppressed + flatware spring = 800ish rpm on the good bullets. No fails over 200 rounds with various magazines. Interestingly, standard bcg with any buffer including 1.7, 2.2, 2.6, h up to h3, resulted in fail to feeds.

I bring it up because the barrel lengths are short so it might be something to try. I do not know how 5.56 would act but it could be worth increasing buffer weights/ adjusting gas. Could be inertia based on the bolt or something too

TLDR,
Hoffman SS, more battle tested, less wait time, not as ergonomic and less user friendly installation, needs h3 buffer with loose weights to prevent bolt bounce.

DTT FRT drop in, the easiest to install, works out of the box with every ar15, slightly better than milspec trigger pull on semi, - must be cleaned every 3-500 rounds or else it will gum up, 500$ plus.

Atrius super selektor, works with many drop in trigger groups with a small amount of dreamal work, 3 position selector, 200$ -requires small cuts on BCG rear see >>63922526 also needs h3 buffer with loose weights to prevent bolt bounce, will likely take half a year to ship to you as the demand for them is HUGE right now.

Every place you can buy from gives extremely specific instructions on which recoil spring, disconnector, ammo, etc that you can use and also says that you might have to fit and file. I'd expect nothing to be a drop in at this point, HOWEVER Freedom Finger does sell a legit M&P back plate drop in that converts any M&P 2.0 into a FRT.

use the camera on your phone and slo mo video your bolt dropping from lock back, see if it bounces, it you get ANY bolt bounce at all that is your problem for light strikes. You need an h2 or h3 buffer with rubber spacers in between the weights to act as a dead blow. if you have no bold bounce and are still seeing these issues i would try a new carrier group or tougher trigger, something is either wrong with your firing pin protrusion or the weight of your hammer.

Just use a silent captured spring. It will sort everything out for you and set you back $130. Desu every AR should have one at this point.

>requires H3 buffer w/ loose weights

You should ALWAYS have a deadblow buffer anyway, bolt bounce is always an issue with any AR15, it is just slightly more pronounced with forced reset and/or pistol calibers.
You dont need an H3 but its better to have an H1 or H2 than carbine as it lowers the fire rate, reduces recoil, and doesnt make properly gassed guns run like shit. H3 is good for overgassed or suppressor only AR's (see overgassed).
Many rifles require a heavier buffer weight as the system doesnt have enough inertia to let the forced reset work properly with carbine buffers.

JP silent captured spring in all cases.

Suppressors jack up the cyclic rate. None of mine are flow through but I have one very K can (4"), one medium can, and one enormous Otter Creek can that is a clone of an Allen Engineering can. All of them have been run flawlessly with silent captured springs and I've also tried all of them with lightweight bolt carrier groups. I can reliably get the cyclic rate north of 1200 rpm.

I can't speak for piston guns but I can't imagine there's much reason to get one.

Got my DTT fartyboi installed last night. Turns out it was Rare Breed all along. Anyways, something nobody tells you is you have to install your upper with the hammer up so you need to manually trip it by pressing on the reset lever and pulling the trigger.

You will also have trouble getting the back pin to line up to attach the back end of the receiver, but I found the best way to do it was to pull the charging handle a bit while seating so the buffer moved enough to get clearance, then lock the buffer back while pushing the pin through.

Anyone else have a little play side to side in the anti-walk pins, though? They don't tighten down flush with the lower receiver all the way but I put some blue locktite on them so we'll see.

Looking at building an AR10 with SS. I know there's no common standard across manufacturers, and the specs between DPMS/Armalite receivers is kinda convoluted. Which receiver spec would allow a SS to work, and how could it be built to reliably function with most common ammo loads? Spoke with one guy who said he can only get his AR10 ss to work reliably with 168s and that's maybe a bit expensive for my blood right now.

I do plan on it, and I'll have a look at the AK to see if theres anything that could possibly be done for a three position. People say its impossible but I feel that they may be focusing too much on trying to get the pre-existing design to work instead of trying to think outside of the box. Theres one gun for example where I was stumped until I looked at the original full auto parts instead of the semi auto parts I was familiar with, and immediately came up with a new design that was extremely simple
Also, I have a question for you guys, how would you feel if the PS90's trigger was changed from the original linear trigger (like a 1911) to a rotating one to accommodate forced reset?

There's a few, but they're currently running around $80-100. Already have a mp5 with a super safety so not really motivated to get a frt for something that will on all accounts be worse and may take a lot of adjustments.

Mostly made by larger companies with more bloat, so everybody involved in a team plus the company owner need to have it priced so they get paid, plus its new and full autos cost 12k or more now so they can set whatever price they want. I'm hoping for more indie projects with lower overhead so we don't get a situation like with suppressors where you have bloated costs due to barriers to entry.

biggest problem with the vector is the fuck-heavy recoil spring that makes charging the gun a huge pain in the ass unless you have it shouldered.

The biggest problem with the vector is the retarded form factor and how ridiculously big and heavy it is for a pistol with 4" barrel or whatever.

I think it's almost inevitable, but the big problem is which semi-auto Thompson to make it for. There are a bunch of semi-auto Thompsons that all have their own proprietary parts.

But anon, FRTs didn't even have a patent until 2015 Christian Era.

This. I was able to get it installed in my 7.62 saiga with a couple hours of slow filing to get it all to fit. I got a kit for my brother and still trying to make it work as the psa one we cant get the carrier to over the trip bar.
