Could the radars on some active protection systems be expanded and used simultaneously for 360-degree ground/sky scanning? Imagine if instead of say, a loader, there was a crewman whose job is to monitor ground and aerial movements to which he is alerted with notifications, perhaps even with a camera feed of the detected area (this is a little radical). In the case of slow-moving aerial threats like muhdrones, he could authorize firing at it, like a CIWS, or maybe even use the radar as a directed energy weapon.

Trophy already tracks the predicted origin of intercepted missiles and markets itself as a comprehensive protection and situational awareness solution, but I don't think it tracks anything pre-interception.

Sure. There would have to be a crapton of work to get it to a point where the sensitivity vs specificity is feasible, though, and a human can only fix so much.
You could for example implement software that stores the coordinates and signature profile of a detected movement, and the sensor operator can dismiss irrelevant detections as unimportant and stop receiving alerts about them.
Either way, the system would be rather specialized, perhaps impractically so.

Also, since I should at least try to comment on the thread topic, APS will always be handicapped by the fact that they will be incredibly dangerous to any infantry surrounding the tanks, and since a tank without any infantry escort is even more vulnerable, it's a Catch-22. Attacking drones need to be neutralized by specialized defensive drones mated to their vehicles, kind of like how it works in command and conquer generals. You will not have effective APS until targeting technology is so advanced that incoming rounds can be sniped out of the sky from long distance with pinpoint accuracy without making a spray of shrapnel.

Yes, my understanding is that these radars are the same sort of band and ASEA beamforming type as many of the small C-UAS radars going on other mobile platforms. A lot of future tank concepts use these APS radars and a 30x113mm gun firing airburst rounds as the C-UAS solution.

These radars have extremely low SWaP concerns now and can go on just about anything. Expected detection range for a quadcopter is 1-2km.
